We have a 50” LG plasma that now has 7 years and 35,000 hours on it which has been amazing but needed an upgrade. This 65” has all the amazing features you want with a 4K set and all for $899! Couldn’t pass this up and the picture is beautiful!

The picture is fantastic, and why I bought it in the first place. I set it up with a Sony receiver (STR-DN1080) I just bought less than a year ago and is still in Sony's product line at the time of this review, however the programmable universal remote that came with it does not support it with any of the 10 pre-programmed key codes. Hoping a future software update will include it, will give it another star if that changes.

It’s worked great for almost 2 1/2 years. Now it has a hard time keeping a connection to the Wi-Fi. Sometimes the whole Wi-Fi system on it will completely not work and I can’t connect to Wi-Fi at all. I’m sure this is an isolated problem and luckily I bought the protection plan so hopefully BestBuy can correct this

Great TV with a lot of extras. But I am still befuddled at the whole 4K UHD concept. Turns out my Direct TV provider doesn't provide 4K except on 3 channels about surfing or skiing. Netflix and Amazon supposedly stream in 4K, but I have yet to see the same picture I see in the store. Would be nice if I could pair up a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard

I purchased the 65SK8000 based on really good reviews here but I ended up being very disappointed with this TV and returning it. The contrast and black levels are horrible and makes black look gray. You miss a lot of the details in the picture because of this. The worst part was when any solid color was displayed on the screen it wouldn’t be uniform (lots of blotchy colors and blooming). I guess the average consumer looking for a Black Friday deal wouldn’t notice this but if you are at all tech oriented stay far away from this model and spend some more money on a VA panel with better contrast. The remote also has a weird design with the enter button and scroll wheel being the same button, on my remote the button would always get stuck. The one thing I did like was LG’s webOS and the Wii mote like controller.

    Life's Bad with LG

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Buyer beware! Diligently check this TV before your return policy expires or you set it up. I am tired of Black Friday crowds so when I noticed Best Buy had Black Friday deals early, I took advantage of it. I was initially hesitant about LG after my last purchase of a washer flooded my basement within a week due to a manufacturing defect, but the reviews were good and the picture looked great in the store so I took the plunge. What a mistake! After mounting the TV, I noticed a large cloud in the middle of the screen. It almost looked as if a layer of the screen was separating from the panel. It was almost invisible at eye level, but very obvious at an angle. I highly recommend looking at an upward or downward angle when you unbox your TV to see if you notice anything like this. I took this unit down and returned to the store for a replacement. I get home with the next TV, this time doing a bit more due diligence before mounting. Everything looked good, at least initially. The webOS software is great and I liked the picture at first. However, with dark backgrounds and a light foreground, you'll notice significant vertical lighter bands that occur because this is an edge-lit TV. I understand this is an issue with edge-lit TVs, but it is so obvious it is a real distraction. Even at the Black Friday discounted prices, I would expect better quality for the price. I stopped to look at other TVs while I was deciding what to do, paying extra attention to the vertical banding. While every edge-lit TV I looked at demonstrated similar banding, this one was the worst. Another day went by and I noticed a bad pixel. Since they are small and it only showed on dark backgrounds I didn't notice it right away. Normally I wouldn't fuss about one bad pixel, but given the issue with the prior TV and the awful banding, I decided I'm done with this TV and returned it. I was optimistic about this TV given the mostly stellar reviews. I suggest looking at negative reviews before walking in the store and looking for the issues that are pointed out on the display models. For example, there are other complaints about the vertical banding. I would have saved a lot of time (and a vacation day) if I had done a bit more homework upfront.

The TV is great and was easy to set up. I'm not so sure about the curved stand. I wish it had a couple of legs vs the curved design. Any ideas as to how I can better stabilize the tv? I don't want to wall mount.

Cannot connect to ATT U-verse cable box

BEWARE - I never give reviews, but you need to know this before you purchase. Purchased an LG 65SK8000PUA (65” SUPER UHD TV AI thinQ TV). Got it installed fine, but spent 2 hours on the phone with LG and they could not get the remote to connect to my ATT U-verse DVR box to change channels or access the guide. Note: guide shows up, and programs show up, but you cannot select channels. End result is that you need a universal remote (we have Logitech Harmony which works fine) but these don’t allow you to access the Smart TV apps on the TV which totally defeats the purpose of having a Hard to have a tv that doesn’t allow you to change channels and having 2 remotes as totally inconvenient to watch TV!!!’ Will also add that picture is clear, but dark, unless you change to Vivid or Sport/Game mode. In these modes, colors appear too bright and neon. Not good. I’m returning this for a Samsung!

    LG... Not for me!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This review is a little late, I know, but should be given, non the less because I bought this on the reputation of LG, which up until I bought this, was pretty stellar as far as I was concerned. First thing I noticed, was the picture is dark. Because when you turn the bright control up to max, it is still lacking in fidelity. You are still trying to brighten the picture. Then the sound. Again, you max out the sound at %100, and you still want more, because the sound is not clear, and in a busy room, can barely be heard, unless you pipe it through a sound system. But the main thing was the network functionality. The network goes out constantly. Worse, you call GEEK SQUAD tech support, and after they went through their script a several times, they sent out a tech. He, or course found there was nothing he could really do except replace the motherboard, which was not not problem. They were honest about it, and did replace a component related to network, but said it was a known problem, of which THERE WAS NO SOLUTION! Long story short, GS refunded the price of the TV (Left the TV :)) and basically washed their hands of it. I was satisfied with THAT solution, but would rather have had a working "SMART" TV. Conclusion is, when I do buy another TV, the LG brand is kaput. After piling out over 1G for it, it was too much money and aggravation. I have an Insignia, I have had a long, long time, and it actually fell HARD a couple of times, and it's fine. This LG is loaded with technology, and is really a waste of money and a ton of aggravation and frustration. Next time I won't be so bent on brand names. Thanks for your time.

    Very Disappointed

Biggest disappointment I have had with a major purchase. From the first show I watched I have been disappointed with this set. The dark scenes on this set can become nearly unwatchable, I have in some cases moved to other less expensive sets in the house to watch shows and movies. Bright scenes and well lit scenes are great, but darker scenes or shadowed scenes can show up way too dark. Thought maybe it was my imagination, but when I put a 3 year old Samsung under this set the distinction in darker scenes was significantly better. Of the 10 scene selections (ie Vivid, Std, APS etc) only vivid and perhaps sports seemed useable. What good is 4k and better resolution when blacks, browns and dark scenes all show up as black. On my older set I have seen bookcases which are walnut just show up as black in this set. May look great on the show room floor with the right scences, but for general watching I was super disappointed. Went back to the store and was simply told, that this is a complaint with this set. Suggested I spend another $400 and get the next version up which is much better. Not a chance!

    Great Picture with Some Quirks

Great picture but wide banding of white backgrounds (5 vertical bands across screen) are really annoying. Happens when background is dark and any light info appears (like closed caption, or light object in picture. Everyone at our house has commented on it. Looks bad. Wi-Fi drops out constantly, even though phones or computer next to TV have strong signal.

Read if you use a home theater recvr

This is a good tv at a good price. However, if you have a home theater receiver with ARC, the apps may, or may not play audio through your home theater system, and instead only through the tv speakers. I've tried all the troubleshooting google has to offer. I used to stream to my old tv from my pc to via a usb device, and it worked wonderfully. When I upgraded to a smart tv, 10 years newer, I didn't expect that the "smart" apps would not be smart enough to play audio the same way that the tv does. If you're using a home theater system, and expect 5.1 from the popular "smart" apps, be aware that you may be disappointed.

    Local Dimming is awful

I am extremely disappointed with this purchase. it looked great in the store; however it has a Local Dimming dimming function which you can't turn off. It makes watching dark movie scenes impossible. Basically you have different vertical bands on the screen lighting up at different times, it is very disturbing. Instead of enjoying the movie i am constantly annoyed by blinking screen. I email LG, but I have not heard back from them. I will be returning this TV as soon as possible

We apologize you are unhappy with the dimming on your TV. With the Local Dimming you can discover previously unseen detail with a vibrant, natural picture. Different zones of light across the screen can brighten and dim independently, enhancing contrast and achieving deeper black levels for a rich, lifelike image. The Intelligent Processor maximizes color, depth and sharpness to produce a more realistic picture. The Nano Cell Display delivers truer colors, reduced reflectivity and deeper black levels, even at a wider viewing angle. Dark picture and NO customer support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Not wanting to spend a small fortune on a TV (OLED) I opted for this model. Ever since setting it up I am looking at a dark picture. Some so bad I revert to watching the old TV this replaced! I have done everything suggested to try remedy the darkness to no avail. I finally get in touch with LG via Facebook. What's that about? I post my issue and get a response. Long story short, they agree to send out a technician to check what's wrong. The pre arranged appointment came and went. Nobody, not a call, nothing. Do they have an idea that we take time off work to be home, lost earnings and it's a no show? I called the 0800 number and finally got through to a call center most likely in India. I asked about why no one had showed up and got " Technician had to order a part. I will text him and he will call you with update on arrival time". Maybe I'm missing something here but! Why on earth would LG know what's wrong with my TV without having ever set foot in my house? Unless of course LG is selling TV's with a known issue! And secondly, texting an engineer from India is in itself probable rubbish. Most likely just a fob off to get you off the phone. In the mean time, thanks to LG's wonderful commitment to it's products and customer care, I sit here with a TV that's almost unwatchable. It's under warranty. It's not unreasonable to expect issues to be dealt with.
