    OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To say that I love this screen (I can't even call it a TV) would be a severe understatement. I had done a ton of research on various companies before I finally decided on LG. I bought this model about a week after it came out, so there weren't really any (except 1 short review) consumer reviews posted. Man am I glad I took the leap. I can't stop staring at it. The colors and black levels are beyond mind blowing. I also can't say enough compliments for the Geek Squad guys that delivered and installed it. Their service and timing was exceptional. I'v heard BB get a bad rap sometimes, but in my experience on this purchase, I am now a solid future customer for them and LG.

    Wanted To Love It...

Purchased this tv the end of May and am about to return it for the third time. There has been connection issues with three of the same models. The most current one will not stay connected to the internet nor does the mouse feature of the remote work. I have had my cable company out five times to check our services, and also upgraded our speed in hopes that might help the problem. Netflix, Amazon and Vudu are three apps we love to watch movies on. I cannot get them to load easily, and when they do they are slow and blurry.. repeatedly losing connection. I have three other similar TVs, two sony and one LG that have 0 issues. The picture is not always clear and certain settings won't/can't be changed on the tv as they are blacked out. My situation is probably not the norm, but we haven't had a good experience with this particular model.

Terrible in dark room, light bloom problems

It looks good it daylight, aside from the glare, and at night in brightly lit rooms if the content is full screen. 4K discs can look just amazing and even 1080p content from an Apple TV 4 and upscaled by the LG looks great. If you primarily watch TV at night with lights off you’ll likely be extremely frustrated by this TV unless you sit at least 15 feet back. Any less the viewing angle is essentially 0 degrees or less. For decent viewing less than 10 feet away your face should be aligned with the exact center of the screen, and even then the corners will have light bloom at the corners on dark content. Black bars above and below the image are more grey, and if you sit facing the right or left side of the screen, the opposite corners will be very grey, such that the black bars are a gradient. No setting can make this go away. It’s very distracting and obvious in all letterboxed content, which is basically every movie I own. It’s much less of a problem on full screen content. On especially dark movies the grey bars will stand out and it’s very difficult to get a good picture. Sometimes things like LED dimming (a feature you’re paying for) seem like they help, but in other ways, turning it on creates image problems including the entire section of the screen getting bright if there is a bright element on a black background. In this regard it’s worse than any of 4 LED/LCD TVs I’ve owned since 2006. Even in a brightly lit room, the light bloom from the corners is obvious on dark content. The TV refuses to hold all settings no matter how many times you set them and apply them to all HDMI ports. You can select a picture setting. I always select and customize Standard User settings. Switch ports to Apple TV, a 4K UHD disc, streaming from the TV itself? Well you’ll have totally different settings for at least some of the things most likely. I’ve turned off things like MPEG noise reduction, Super Resolution, Backlight, dynamic contrast and dynamic colors so many times that basically every time I watch anything I have to go to the image settings and try to figure out what it’s messed up and turned on that I have never turned on. The first one I got the light bloom was so awful I got a replacement. It also had major HMDI problems no matter which certified cables I used. The replacement is improved enough that I’m keeping it but am already looking forward to the day I replace it. Not exactly what I expected for $2400. I thought about other models but the only similar one with Dolby Vision in this price range only has one 4K-HDR HDMI port. At least all 4 ports on this are true HDMI 2.0 ports that can handle 4K with HDR. Other company’s 2017 models that touted at the introduction that they’d have DV apparently mostly never will. In retrospect, I should have waited until 2018 models came out for a model with Dolby Vision but without an IPS screen, which is apparently the problem as far as blacks and light bloom. The picture settings it arrived with were terrible, with the awful soap opera effect on. I used the old Disney Wow blu-ray to set color, tint, brightness, and contrast and as always that helped a lot. Have decided not to put my preferred settings here because they were quite different between the 2 I’ve had. It’s not going to hold the settings anyway so why bother? As others have mentioned, dynamic contrast settings can give the image more pop. Get a calibration disc if you want to enjoy the best image. Pros: WebOS and the remote are really great! I was skeptical of the mouse pointer concept but it works and is so much more efficient than endlessly pushing buttons to navigate, though that can be done too. Thin overall, with a thin bezel around this screen means this takes up little more room than my previous 70”. It really looks great when properly set up and displaying 4K content full screen. I didn’t expect to be wowed but I had Planet Earth II in 4K on this playing the same time from an Oppo 203 as my 70” 1080p playing the Blu-ray from an older player. I was stunned how much better it looked on the LG in 4K. The TV upconverts to 4K from the Apple TV and streaming apps quite well. I had trouble telling much difference on one Amazon show while it went between 1080p and 4K as my speeds are just at the limit of the low end of even streaming 4K. Cons: Heavy. Screen glare is slightly worse than the nearly 7 year old lower end TV it replaced. Light bloom. Inability to show blacks properly in a darkened room. Inability to hold picture settings. Cost for this level of problems. The iOS app is less useful than the remote. I was able to get the keyboard up at one point when setting up accounts but can’t for the life of me get it to show again.
