    Overall this is a good tv if you have a decently bright room. The blacks aren’t great, but manageable with configuration. TV calibration does well for this tv. Turning off the backlight for dark movies is a good idea in my opinion. I’m a fan of LG, they tend to have great color and brightness, but it lacks more backlit zones which could show in the deep blacks as splotchy or with a bit of a halo. Overall, pleased with my purchase for the price compared to OLED. The WebOS interface is great.

    I went into the store planning on getting the Samsung Q60r and after seeing this one in the store side by side I thought the 8 series of LG had a better picture. After getting it home boy was I wrong. This unit has horrible local dimming. There’s about 8-10 “local dimming zones” so if there’s anything to be highlighted in a particular area of that screen an entire vertical is lit up. This becomes very distracting when watching anything that’s a dark scene, or a movie with black bars, as you can see this light dancing around the tv as it gets highlighted. Took this tv back to the store and got the Samsung Q70, very happy with my decision. The only reason I gave this tv 2 stars is because the LG’s operating system is very intuitive.
