You may want to spring for a model with support for UHD discs if you want complete support for all modern Blu Ray releases, but this is good for the price. For those who care, I can confirm that this works fine for playback on Linux with VLC. You'll need to set up some additional dependencies for menu support (requires a Java 8 runtime) and content decryption, but it's easy enough to find instructions if you just search "blu ray playback <distro name>". The included CyberLink PowerDVD software works fine on Windows, but it might be a bit dated/bloated for some people's taste. You'll also see some ads in the software; though only for CyberLink's products.

This is the most perfect portable option for an external player I have found. It works perfectly and I use it for my classroom.

Needed something since the computer didn't come with a dvd or BD drive .. so this was small, compact, and easy to fit in a pocket with the laptop 2-in-1 device to travel with .. Used to view some movies I purchased on down time while traveling .. as well as uploading older software that still has physical discs ..

Despite being, in appearence like the drive it is replacing, this one works like a champ. I don't own any blnak blu-rays, but this dirve sure displays them with the right software, and it worked a bunch backing my blu-ray movies up to hard drive. Initially it was quite loud, but it quieted down and has been stable ever since.

Nice and small and works great. Simple to use and is nice and slim to fit into my computer bag without even noticing it was there. Cord is mini USB 2, so the same cord works for my phone or the player. software loaded right up and worked as soon as I connected it. Always liked LG products.

Haven't had a chance to try out the burning aspect but reading/playing DVD and Blu-Rays have been great. A little loud when first loading up but otherwise no complaints about the drive. The software though is about 5-6 versions behind what is currently out there which is a disappointment.

Work good. Used it for backing up 25 Gb picture files to blue ray disc. Somple to use right out of the box.

Installation was easy and the system operated flawlessly after installing the software. I did a completed backup of my computer with ease. Very good product. I also use it to view Blu-ray movies on my tv set.

Actually, I had a previous version of the LG Blu Ray/ DVD Writer, but with the upgrade to a Surface Pro 3 and Windows 10, it was difficult to get things running right. I checked out a number of players, stayed with LG, and it was worth it! Upgraded the player, got all the upgraded software and now have an excellent companion to my Surface Pro ... and to my wife's Lenovo!

This external DVD / BRay/Write & read unit did show very good performance, compatibility and easy going config/operation with the HP Envy laptop. There is only one observation. The unit looks to be fragile and need to be handled carefully. I mean is not designe for mobile when connected to the laptop.

As more and more computers get away from CD/DVD players Read/Write Capability this is an inexpensive and quick way to add that capability back to a new computer. Easy to install, runs fast, and writes fast. A no-brainer add on!

Great blue ray unit. Only thing to do after you buy it is to pay for the full software.

I cannot complain about this burner at all. It does what it is supposed to do when I ask it to do it. Very thin so it fits along with my laptop and works great for playing Blu-ray when I'm away from home. It comes with the software for playing DVDs and Blu-ray discs, so one less thing to buy!

I use it for 1. Recording music CD's, data DVD's. 2. Playback of video DVD's and Blu-Ray discs. I have not yet tried the BD-RE aspect of the device. This is a portable device I can use between several different computers. It works flawlessly, takes up little space, does not require power other than from the computer, and is easy to operate.

Perfect for my new HP laptop. Easy to set up and great for watching DVD's and listening to music.

Great drive if you need something that will do Blue Ray DVD's and all the other type DVD's. I made a Blue Ray DVD and then copied it using the same drive. Worked perfect. A great Blur Ray writer. Fast for a USB. I could not ask for a better drive for the price.
