Customers are saying

Customers value the ease of use, Blu-ray functionality, compact size, and compatibility of the 8x External USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Disc Rewriter. Many appreciate its performance and the affordable price point. However, some users have expressed concerns regarding the included software and the noise level during operation. The positive feedback on ease of use and Blu-ray playback outweighs the negative comments on software and noise.

As someone mentioned here, this is great for D2D conversions and that's all I've used it for. It's extremely portable. Forget about getting a case for it--just pack it back up in the box it came in. If you do it right it won't move around at all. It's extremely easy to do and that's not true for all products like this. It's not bulky either, even packed up in the box. Worth noting: You do need 2 available USB ports as that's how it's powered.

I needed an optical drive as my new laptop did not have one. This is very thin, light and portable, good quality, works great. Need two USB ports to power and play, could be a bit of a drawback for some, but my laptop had two next to each other. Really like that this is so small it easily fits in my bag with the laptop.

I haven't had it very long yet and have only used it to play a handful of movies. There are some things I'd like to try burning, especially onto the higher volume Blu-Ray discs but I just haven't had time yet this month so I can't tell ya what that's like yet. It is very compact and lightweight. I wish it had a dedicated power cord to supply extra power to it instead of requiring you to use the 2 USB connections which are both necessary to give it the power it needs to run. USB ports for my system are in short supply so I needed to buy a powered hub as well.

Made this purchase for my MacBook with retina and I downloaded a program to play my blu-ray movies with and this had no issues playing them on my MacBook. It was fast, quite, and quick to install. Easy in 1, 2, 3.

This is the 2nd drive of this type I have purchased and is far better then the previous LG model. I am impressed with the performance and speed of this drive. Make sure you have 2 USB ports next to each other as this device needs the 2nd port for power.

The LG Disc Rewriter works as expected however the CyberLink software that downloads with it and is recommended for it doesn't work half the time, and when prompted for an update it tries to charge you for that update. If you are transferring a video clip to a disc or a movie, it is far easier and much quicker if you are using windows 10 or 11 to simply open the LG and transfer the clip or movie directly from the resident folder to the disc writer. For some reason the CyberLink takes up 4 to 6 times the disc space to burn the same clip as is burned with the simple copy and paste function. For example, a 1 GB movie will take 4-5 GB on a 25GB Bluray disc with CyberLink [when it works] versus 1GB for a copy paste. No discernible improvement of one versus the other in replay quality. LG, get better software or stop dealing with CyberLink.

After bringing home a less expensive model, BB graciously let me purchase this model an use the returned item cost. This guy works. It does also have a special split end cable to source extra power for blueray or other burning operations. Runs pretty fasts too.

Easy to operate, just using make MKV and handbrake. A bit loud, but that is expected with such a compact unit. Looks nice on my little glass shelf, where you really wouldnt even know its there and hooked up. I got it for $75 or $80, great deal at that price.

A Useful Tool in an Age of ODD-less PCs

Having this external disc drive allows me to copy music (and other things) from CDs I currently own onto my PC which I very much needed to for a few music CDs I had yet to put on my computer, and as physical media is dying more and more, it also means the death of computers having a dedicated spot for an internal ODD, making external ODD’s kind of necessary to access any kind of physical media anymore on PC.

Working Great, No Extra Software Needed.

Connection for the drive requires 2 USB connections, 1 for playing the discs, and 1 for power ( the shorter USB ). My laptop didn't have 2 USB's side by side but I was able to use an extension cord with a plugged in USB charger (one originally used with my phone ) for the power USB connection needed. Drive worked great. No extra software was needed. Only needed a Blu-Ray player but couldn't find one, so this Blu-Ray writer chosen. Ordered online during Dec 2020 sale, picked up at store in Jan 2021. Drive played a Blu-Ray and DVD movie, no problems, and was also used as external drive to re-install some old software we had that was still on DVD disc. Slight noise when playing but not loud or an issue. All players have some noise.

This blu ray drive was easy to set up. The installation software required a long time to install but was straightforward. It includes a very nice suite of CyberLink programs for all of your needs, even playing 3D Blu ray if you have it. I watched a Bluray disk right away and it worked flawlessly.

Perfect External optical drive for your laptop, if like mine it doesn't have an Optical drive. It plays and records Blu-ray, Dvds/Dvd-rom (all varieties) and CDs/CD-Roms(all varieties). The software that comes with it is okay. Its easy to use. I love it.

This works as advertised although the software that came with it was old and didn't think the brand new computer that it was plugged in to could handle the device! Once you get good software for video playback, it works like a charm.
