This device can handle 4k when flashed correctly. It's been reliable and has handled every disc I've tried to watch or rip.

Its a gift for my son and im sure he'll enjoy using it

This product does everything it says it will, without fuss or fail. I bought it as an add-on optical drive for a computer that didn't have one built in, and no form factor to install one internally. I wanted it for backup, playing CDs, DVDs and BDs, and it does all to my satisfaction.

This unit unusually uses two USB-A ports (power and data), but otherwise does what it says on the tin. It also can run modified firmware to unlock 4K/UHD Blu-Ray discs. Can't argue with that functionality! Definitely prefer the tray loading drive to a slot loader.

I recently bought a new laptop from BB that did not have a built-in optical drive [the current trend]. I also have an 8TB NAS I planned to put my Blu-ray videos on for streaming through my home entertainment system. This drive is what I chose after reading about issues with other drives. The upside is that it works great but the downside is that the first one had issues [caused the dreaded blue-screen of death while ripping]. It took a while to figure out that the crash was caused by the hardware [those cryptic error messages in the Windows 10 Event Viewer hinted at it] and a quick exchange for a different drive cleared up the problem. I have already ripped over 100 titles to my server and enjoy video streaming in full 1080p HD with no loss of quality. And accessing videos in the same way I access high-resolution audio is a big plus for convenience. If it weren't for the minor hardware issue, I would rate this drive as 5 stars.

The LG - 8x External USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Re-writer works great with my new gaming laptop that has no optical drive. Many newer slim laptops and tablets do not have optical drives and this is a great solution. The price at $89.99 is nice since regular dvd/dvdrw/cd/cdrw drives are similar in price or not much less and are bulky. It is slim and easily stored in a laptop bag or even a sleeve with an outside pocket. It is powered from the USB port so it may take two ports to power and use on an older machine or one USB 3.0 will do the job nicely. Plays and burns all optical discs up to 100GB. You may need additional software to play your Blu-ray movies. No software is provided. Definitely would recommend this to anyone needing an optical drive for their portable device.

I bought this for a specific reason. I built a new pc that didn't come with the drive bays needed to an install an internal dvd burner. I bought this one to install the drivers and it works just fine. It's pretty cool having a portable dvd/ blu ray writer though.

This item is showing it's age, It is slow at writing BD-R, and seems to be barely compatible with Windows 11. It is functional but quite noisy and the access/seek times remind me of computing in the 1990's. LG software for this device has been discontinued years ago and their website claims it is not compatible with Windows 11- it seems like lazy support for what would otherwise be a good external drive. I am using a 2024 Windows Desktop that otherwise is blindingly fast. What a shame. It's not worth the hassle to return this but I wish I would have bought a different drive.

Works great and fast. It does everything I want to burn. Great for burning movies to save the original copies.

Very easy to use and pretty quiet. Even if you have a pretty banged up disc, the player is still able to read it.

I had just purchased a Lenovo Yoga laptop computer this past January (2020) and of course, most manufacturers no longer include a DVD+RW/CD-RW player in their lap-top computers in order to keep the weight down. However, I find on occasion it's nice to be able to play a movie on it when the need arrives. Plus, I have some older software on CD's that I can now install on my new laptop. This LG DVD+RW/CD-RW player works beatifully. I've had no problems whatsoever. I'm very pleased with the product! Purchased on 1/26/2020 at Best Buy.

This is the loudest thing in your workspace. That includes if you happen to work next to a train track, or in a machine shop. I have never experienced a louder "modern" electronic. It does work though, but I feel bad.. Like it is trying it's best and I shouldn't push it too far. Would not reccomend.

So far, it is what I needed. Easy hook up to my MacBook and started right away. Small and light, easy to transport. Burned quickly and successfully. Highly recommend this product.

This product is easy to use. Simplistic out of the box. Comes with Cyberlink Power DVD 19 along with it. Can be plugged into a tv with USB ports just use the tv remote to control while using. And small for people who likes to travel.

Perfect for my new Laptop...making the laptops thinner means a minor loss of some accessories we are used to having, like the drive...this is small compact and easy to connect when I need it and stores easily when I do not.

As someone mentioned here, this is great for D2D conversions and that's all I've used it for. It's extremely portable. Forget about getting a case for it--just pack it back up in the box it came in. If you do it right it won't move around at all. It's extremely easy to do and that's not true for all products like this. It's not bulky either, even packed up in the box. Worth noting: You do need 2 available USB ports as that's how it's powered.
