Excellent External Drive For Blue Ray and DVD
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I looked at the ratings for a good external Blue Ray/DVD drive as my computer did not have an internal drive. This one was very highly rated. It is easy to install and use. It comes with many features as well.

Works great but...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a nice unit..I use it with my Macbook Pro Retna display. I would have given it a 5 star but it doesn't come with software to run or burn Blu ray discs. Dvd works great..I've watched 2 full movies and was good to go. I downloaded a demo of software for the Blu-ray and they put a big logo in the middle to get you to register quickly. I will wait for it to go on sale again...and go thru with it. It is relatively quiet and burns discs quickly.. It also uses USB connection for power and input into your laptop or computer...it will use 1 or 2 depending on your USB revision. It's thin so travels nicely in a storage pouch in my bag...don't even know it's there.

Good external drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted a smaller laptop, so the external drive makes it easy to load software I already have on CDs. The drive is compact and works well.

Easy to set up and use
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since laptops no longer have internal optical drives external ones like this are a must. I use it on a machine running Windows 11. Setup was as simple as plugging it in. the drive comes with Cyberlink Media Suite so software and codecs for playing DVD's and Blu-ray movies are included. I haven't had a need to burn a disc since I got this drive but given past experience doing so should be no different than using any other burner.

Functional but very Disappointed in LG BP50NB40
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This LG-8x Blu-Ray burner actually only burns blu-rays at 6x. Be sure to use a POWERED USB HUB or the USB ports built into a Deskop PC (Two Ports required to fully power this unit up, and a twin USB cable is included). Seems very slow to be recognized by the OS, and the initial read (file buffering) seems very slow. But, eventually, the system/drive caches kick in and response improves. This unit is for archiving only here, using media as a large Floppy disc. Don't depend on this if your a DJ as video and audio hickup regularly. Many many older drives and systems are perfect - this drive seems to lack the speed and reliability to keep up with the video playback, probably due to using a SERIAL PORT instead of the older PARALLEL ports (including SCSI) or inefficient drive buffering (?). Copying Large files is relatively quick (up to 25 MegaBits / sec - my other DVD burners average over 500Mb/sec). Smaller files actually take longer (under 25 kiloBits / sec and lower) writing header info for each file I assume. The real killer is the bundled "CyberLink Media Suite 10 for Blu-ray" software - Copyright 1999-2015 - This would not install on any system, including Windows 10. ABSOLUTELY ZERO support from either the manufacturer or Best Buy regarding this Blu-Ray specific software. Will be returning, and trying another BestBuy drive from a different manufacturer.

Good Drive but tricky to watch Blu-ray on MACs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The drive works good. It ships with Cyberlink software for Windows to take full advantage of the drives capabilities. However there is no included software for MACOS. I was able to get it to play Blu-ray disks on MAC at no cost using VLC player but it is not straight forward. You have find and download files and place them specific locations in the file system to make it work. Not necessarily and easy task for average user. There may be other free software but all the other free software I found was either a trial or put a water mark in the movie making it hard to watch. Other than that it is fine on MAC.

Adequate Bluray/CD ROM Drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This works well for my MacBook and can read disks effectively. It is somewhat loud, but can read and write disks quickly and have had no problems.

Truly plug and play
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.bought this item for a trip to play Blu-ray movies on. It truly is plug and play! The player gets its power from the computer it is plugged in to (you do need 2 available USB ports). Works without a hitch!

Great Blue Ray DVD player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Strictly use it as a Blue Ray DVD player for my MacBook Pro, which is seamless, to watch on the road when traveling for work. I did also purchase it as a supplemental backup in case I need to have a physical backup of my data but that has been minimal at best. If you are strictly looking for a great Blue Ray player that works seamlessly, I highly recommend the product. If you are looking to use it as backup for your data, I would defer to other user’s reviews (which appear to have great reviews) to help with your purchasing decision

Good for large, archival back-ups but USB-2
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saved us by backing up data from our dying computer. >19GB in less than an hour to M-disk (so good for200-1000 yrs! Only USB-2 and requires 2 adjacent USB outlets. The included software is adequate but not wonderful. The instructions were adequate but not wonderful. Yes, iI would recommend it to a friend, but try to get a USB-3 version.

Pretty good little external drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was wanting to watch bluray movies and burn dvd data disks and this does it. At times it can be loud. And you need two free usb ports for it. But overall its pretty nice for the price.

Good burner with outdated software
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a good external blu-ray burner that is very easy to set up. Unfortunately the blu-ray software is outdated and there is no option to upgrade without having to buy it.

A Versatile Add-On
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I plugged it in to a new HP desktop and after loading the software, it worked fine. It is a little slow and noisy when it gets up to speed, but it is reasonably priced. Many new PCs come without an optical drive and you might need one for your old CD/DVD/Blue Ray collection! I don't plan to do much writing with it.

Great solution for adding a blu ray drive to PC
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought to play DVDs and Blu Rays on my PC, and to save a copy of movies I own for offline useage, works like a charm! Plug and play, recognized in VLC and Windows, and is actually really quiet for all the bigger it is. Note: It uses 2X USB 2.0 plugs, but even at 6X (max read speed of blu rays on this drive) there's still bandwidth leftover so don't feel like you NEED a USB 3.0 drive, it won't read/save any faster. I've found a regular 2 hour Blu Ray will take around 30 minutes to 'save'. Compressing/converting is what takes time, and that's all up to your PC specs. I'm not here to write a tutorial on how to do it, there's plenty out there already. Including one to 'upgrade' the firmware for 4k and 3d discs too. *wink wink* I'll try to return in a few more months with an update or if anything goes wrong, but I'm fully pleased with this drive currently.

Perfect addition for laptop without optical

Great external drive companion to Surface Pro 4
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this external hard drive for Surface Pro 4. I read a number of reviews and couldn't find much in the way of a USB 3.0 or higher at a reasonable price. This product said 2.0 and 3.0 compatible and indicated there reduced speed for 3.0. We haven't noticed any negative impact. There were a variety of options for storage, but not much for CDs. We are not using this for storage yet, but it is used daily for text book companion CDs and books on tape. Slim design and smooth playing/no skips.
