When I bought my son's computer I got this for 20.00 off and it was on sale too. It had blu-ray for just 10.00 more then the model below it. So it was a,no brainer. Very slim and very portable. My got a,2 in 1 and had to have a disc drive for his games and movies. This is really a,quality model.

Exactly as advertised, works great, easy plug and play function. Nice and compact. The disc holder pops out well.

This Blu-ray writer is perfect for what I will use it for! It is easy to use, and comes with great instructions just in case you are not "computer savvy", an added bonus is that it is nice and small so It can easily be stored away!

I also got the desktop version as well and love it. This model work just as great however because of how portable and slim(flimsy) it is, it's not going to be as durable. The software that comes with it works great. After a year of casual usage, the micro USB port broke off due to the poor soldering quality. So handle it with care. For MSRP of $100-120, I'm probably not going to buy it again and will stick with cheaper DVD writers because I rarely use blu ray format disc for my pc and I have other media devices I can use to watch Blu-ray movies.

I got a new laptop from work recently, of course with no optical drive. I researched both cheap DVD writers and pricey BD players, and since my new laptop has USB 3.0 I thought I wanted that as a feature. I spied this drive shopping at my local BB and the price of $70 was right in the middle of my range. A couple things keep this from being 5 stars. The first, and it's a biggie, is that the included Blu-Ray player software took forever to get working right. Included is Cyberlink Media Suite, a huge program. I have an older copy of Nero for DVD burning so I tried installing only the Cyberlink BD player component... failed at playing a Blu-Ray movie. Then I tried installing the latest version direct from Cyberlink... fail. I installed the entire Suite on my daughter's netbook and it worked fine, so I ended up uninstalling and re-installing a couple times until I got it to work. The way that worked was by running the Suite installer and unchecking everything but the BD Player and a couple other things. Running just the Player installer would not work. The second ding is that the drive includes a USB 2.0 cable, but my computer reports that it is a USB 3.0 device... so I have been searching for a USB 3.0 cable that is compatible with the connector on the drive. No luck so far.

I am using drive to copy files from my new Dell XPS 8700. I installed the included Cyberlink software, and attempted to make a BD-R. On three attempts, the software crashed, and then a write error on the fourth try. 4 coasters, no files copied. So I uninstalled everything Cyberlink, and now it works fine using functionality built into Windows 8.1.

I've used this drive with both PC and Mac computers for over a month now with no issues. Installation is a snap in all cases and the speed has met my expectations. Great product for the price.

It works great. But installing the software to be able to use it was weird and kind of worried, but i might just be nervous.

if all you want is a blu ray player that you can plug into your PC to watch movies, than this is the one for you. i just hooked it up, installed the included software, installed the updates it needed and i was watching Blu rays on my PC that day.

I have been looking for a external blu-ray drive to use with our macs for a while. Was about to buy the Pioneer one but found this one on sale and the look was better. Found a software company on line and download the necessary drive. It works like a charm. So even though we use less and less hardware and discs, this makes a nice addition when you want to use a blu-drive or regular dvd. And it does not hurt that it looks great.

Yeaaaahhhh... When i found out that they started making a 100gb blu ray disk... i was sold on this thing. Nothing better than a physical disk as a backup for years to come than a external HDD... even though i use one of those too :) Cyberlink is the software suite that comes with it.. it does what it needs to do but it bugs you WAYYY to much to buy the premium version. Nero 16 Platinum would be a better option i would say. This seems a little expensive for a burner but he**...100gb BR-XL disk.... enough said!

Does what i need it to. Ive bought LG drives before, and have always been satisfied with their performance. I just wish you could get a discount on good media burning programs instead of the bloatware that it comes with.

Excellent product, I do not think DVDs or CDs will ever go away so why not be able to make your own?

It’s a great writer at a great price. I use it to archive Home movies Pictures and computer projects. I do you tube video shows and like to save copies of my shows.

Easy to setup, can with the appropriate software to play bluerays on my iMac.

I get no kick backs so I will tell it the way it is. This unit works for apple although it came with no apple apps. for support of hardware and for the price it should have. Two usb plugs no clear information on when to use both or when it is needed. Not much info in the manual information. It is not quiet, one button for opening unit tray, manual push closing. Button releases tray but tray does not open all the way. The disk snaps into place on the spindle ring, this kind of pressure on a flimsy delicate tray may kill the tray travel rail in the future. This unit is light, delicate and slick which may or may not be a plus in the future. Overall for the 89.00 price tag you expect more quality. In short this unit works does but does it warrant the price tag? I personally do not feel this units hardware screams quality. I can not say it does not work therefore I can tell people so far it works as stated. I have not burned dvds as of yet so the burning of disks is another review.

For those with a newer computer that do not have a dvd drive in them, this is the way to go. The price is a little much and when you add the $9.99 Geek Squad it's kind of pointless, HOWEVER, if you can find this little beauty on sale or do a price match it is well worth it!

We are slowly reaching the age where physical media will be less common. We may be in the last generation that can purchase BD, DVD reader/rewriter drives. So I am grateful that devices like this are still on sale. I can watch movies on my laptop that lack an optical drive, back up different types of files. Who knows if external drives will still be available for purchase in 2 or 3 years from now? I purchased this drive 3 years ago and it is working really well. Very reliable device.

My old bluray burner had seen better days and was giving me a lot of disc errors. This one is a good price and does exactly what it's supposed to. I do a lot of 100GB XL disc burning for archival purposes, and this does them in over 2x the speed of my old burner.

Exactly what he wanted for Christmas, shipped quickly, arrived in perfect condition.
