Works perfectly .very slim and portable.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I bought my son's computer I got this for 20.00 off and it was on sale too. It had blu-ray for just 10.00 more then the model below it. So it was a,no brainer. Very slim and very portable. My got a,2 in 1 and had to have a disc drive for his games and movies. This is really a,quality model.

Amazing on sooo many levels!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just bought a 4K laptop and needed an external Blue Ray player to make the most of 4K content. I purchased the movie Captain Phillips for my virgin flight into 4K color, sound and clarity. Thank you LG for making an easy to use, plug and play devise. Just insert the included CD software and you are up and running in no time. After watching my movie, I tried to see if it would burn a CD of music from a playlist on iTunes. Easy Peazy! Once I inserted the blank CD, it even asked if I would like to Burn a CD. Very intuitive and quick. Could't really ask for anything more. It's slim and light. Black Graphite like my new laptop. Good stuff!

It was a good buy.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After I got home and opened the box, I noticed that it wasn't the most sturdily put together unit. The tray is more like a half tray. It's rather flimsy. I've burned three movies so far with no hiccups. For the most part, it's rather noisy. But, I like to hear those noises to assure me that it's working. I haven't burned any blu-ray discs but I'm confident I can. I'm really satisfied with this product although the bundled software needs updating. Fortunately I have two USB 3.1 ports adjacently open on my laptop. It was basically plug and play. Being ultra-slim, it doesn't take up a lot space. For its price, it's rather fast. I would recommend this to anyone.

It works exceptionally well!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a tinkerer and have decided to begin archiving your Multimedia, this drive is it. It gets the job done, it does make noise, but it it is ripping, so, that is expected. I was worried as well, but, after some updates it rips everything! If youre on a budget, start with this and follow any promots to streamline your process.

Needs iPhone format support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So this little guy is super light weight and simple to use. You only need to have one USB port for it if you have a modern computer that pushes out more power, otherwise you'll need to plug in the other USB which is part of the "Y" it comes with. I didn't need it so one plug just lays there. I'd probably recommend using Velcro or similar and adhere the drive where you like it since it's so lightweight compared to others. So I just burned a DATA disc to a BD-R and I only had 11gb to use and it took about 13minutes to complete. Why a DATA disc you ask? Well the program by Cyberlink that this comes with (which is bundled with quite a bit if you ask me) does not recognize .MP4 from iPhones / iPad. I'm part of 5 YT channels in which I do quite a bit of video editing using both iDevices I have and the iMovie app. I store our content on an external HDD for backup purposes and hopefully one day (hoping that was today) I could burn the seasons onto a Blu-ray with menu etc. Well, it doesn't import that file type unfortunately for me but with modern Blu-ray players and even DVD, they still support reading burned DATA discs even when contained in folders. It's because the player can decode the file type where the program cannot. I'm testing our the DATA disc I burned just now and it plays fine with a few hiccups like short audio breakage (split second breaks). Which could be the audio format and my Blu-ray doesn't handle it perfectly. IDK. You browse the disc like a folder setup if your wondering. I even selected the option which doesn't finalize the disc so I can add more later. Hopefully this helps you. I also have Windows 10 Lenovo Laptop with 8gb ram, Core i5. The Blu-ray blanks were on clearance at OD for $9.99/15pk 25gb discs. BD-R.

versatile solution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nobody builds desktops with disc players anymore. As discs go the way of the floppy, this is small, portable, convenient, and handy for PC or Mac, although for a Mac, you will need to install third party apps to play Blu-ray discs. The included software is for PC only.

Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works great. But installing the software to be able to use it was weird and kind of worried, but i might just be nervous.

Bought it for my Mac Mini Pro. Works like a charm,
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use this on my Mac Mini M2 Pro. The software that comes with this product is for PC so if you want to play blu rays on a Mac you will need a third party software. I ended up going with Macgo Blu Ray Player for Mac. I had an Apple Superdrive for DVD, but why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone and get this so you can do Blu Ray as well. By the way if you have an Apple it will still support the DVD side of this drive natively, but you'll still need Blu Ray software to watch movies. I couldn't be happier really.

Excellent Quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased around 9 years ago at Best Buy. Still sees weekly use. Lasts forever; only issue I had was that one of the internal screws came loose. Took 10 minutes to take apart and retighten. I don't hold it against the product; it's traveled thousands of miles in a backpack and a screw eventually coming loose is a risk with that sort of thing. The thing seems indestructible and has impressive quality.

Great All Purpose Optical Drive/Writer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I also got the desktop version as well and love it. This model work just as great however because of how portable and slim(flimsy) it is, it's not going to be as durable. The software that comes with it works great. After a year of casual usage, the micro USB port broke off due to the poor soldering quality. So handle it with care. For MSRP of $100-120, I'm probably not going to buy it again and will stick with cheaper DVD writers because I rarely use blu ray format disc for my pc and I have other media devices I can use to watch Blu-ray movies.

Nice package marred by a couple misses
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got a new laptop from work recently, of course with no optical drive. I researched both cheap DVD writers and pricey BD players, and since my new laptop has USB 3.0 I thought I wanted that as a feature. I spied this drive shopping at my local BB and the price of $70 was right in the middle of my range. A couple things keep this from being 5 stars. The first, and it's a biggie, is that the included Blu-Ray player software took forever to get working right. Included is Cyberlink Media Suite, a huge program. I have an older copy of Nero for DVD burning so I tried installing only the Cyberlink BD player component... failed at playing a Blu-Ray movie. Then I tried installing the latest version direct from Cyberlink... fail. I installed the entire Suite on my daughter's netbook and it worked fine, so I ended up uninstalling and re-installing a couple times until I got it to work. The way that worked was by running the Suite installer and unchecking everything but the BD Player and a couple other things. Running just the Player installer would not work. The second ding is that the drive includes a USB 2.0 cable, but my computer reports that it is a USB 3.0 device... so I have been searching for a USB 3.0 cable that is compatible with the connector on the drive. No luck so far.

Decent drive. Worthless software.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am using drive to copy files from my new Dell XPS 8700. I installed the included Cyberlink software, and attempted to make a BD-R. On three attempts, the software crashed, and then a write error on the fourth try. 4 coasters, no files copied. So I uninstalled everything Cyberlink, and now it works fine using functionality built into Windows 8.1.

Writes anything to just about any medium.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works fine. In fact, this is the second one I bought from Best Buy (2 homes). I'm a big fan of LG products because of their elegant design and simplicity of operation. I took away one star because of the awkward cable it comes with, which works, but is more complex than would seem necessary.

great drive
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been looking for a external blu-ray drive to use with our macs for a while. Was about to buy the Pioneer one but found this one on sale and the look was better. Found a software company on line and download the necessary drive. It works like a charm. So even though we use less and less hardware and discs, this makes a nice addition when you want to use a blu-drive or regular dvd. And it does not hurt that it looks great.

Works and now BR comes in 25gb,50,100 and 128gb
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yeaaaahhhh... When i found out that they started making a 100gb blu ray disk... i was sold on this thing. Nothing better than a physical disk as a backup for years to come than a external HDD... even though i use one of those too :) Cyberlink is the software suite that comes with it.. it does what it needs to do but it bugs you WAYYY to much to buy the premium version. Nero 16 Platinum would be a better option i would say. This seems a little expensive for a burner but he**...100gb BR-XL disk.... enough said!
