Customers are saying
Customers value the ease of use, Blu-ray functionality, compact size, and compatibility of the 8x External USB 2.0 Blu-ray Disc Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Disc Rewriter. Many appreciate its performance and the affordable price point. However, some users have expressed concerns regarding the included software and the noise level during operation. The positive feedback on ease of use and Blu-ray playback outweighs the negative comments on software and noise.

bundled software too old
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Comes with an oem version of powerdvd 18, which does not work with my 12th gen intel laptop (alder lake, a 2021 chip). It would be nice if LG would include blu ray software from this decade. I think I need powerdvd 21 or newer for 12th gen intel. At least that is what the internet seems to think. It didn't help that cyberlink's advisor tool told me that I only need powerdvd 15 or newer to play blu rays on my laptop. So much for their advisor tool.

Posted .Hi, there. Thank you for sharing your experience on the LG Blu-ray Disc (BP50NB40) model. We understand your concern about the included PowerDVD 18 software not being compatible with your 12th gen Intel laptop. We strive to provide reliable, high-quality products that exceed our customer's needs and expectations.
As a troubleshooting step, we recommend checking for any software updates from CyberLink directly on their website for PowerDVD 21 or newer. Many users with newer processors, like your 12th gen Intel, have found that updating the software to the latest version resolves compatibility issues.

Freezes too much and software does not work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this a few weeks ago. I have a Windows 8.1 laptop. First Windows has poor connectivity with the device. Device freezes a lot. Windows not recognize it immediately - you have to give it 4-5 min to be recongnized. The bundled software PowerDVD 10 is outdated and does not work well with windows. The latest version online is expensive. I ended up buying another software called aurora blu ray player which works ok. Overall quite unhappy with the product.

Works ok
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the item and it did what I needed it to do for the first six months. Without warning, it stopped working!!! Now I need to find another one since it is out of warranty.

Poor Product - be aware
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Barely plug and play on win10, comes with outdated bluray player software with an oem version that is not able to download the latest patch that allows it to play the newest blurays. Got it working on an older bluray and the playback was jittery on a Corei7 w 16Gb ram. Also had trouble uninstalling. The hardware is probably ok but beware that you will still need to buy bluray player software, and that tradespace is not very good in my opinion. I don't like to rail products but this one is below the line.

Unreliable, Inconsistent, Poor product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Have owned for 3+months. Purchased in store on recommendation. wanted to be able to watch older DVD and media material and at least most of my blu ray material. Safe cracking or a rubix cube are good hobbies while waiting for product to work. crashes, stops, will not open what you watched the day before. Must be tricked at times. Buy OTHER PRODUCT.

Died reading my third disk.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Drive stopped reading blu-rays after playing 2 disks. Initially, it would spin up multiple times during initial read. I initially thought nothing of it, but during my third playback the movie hung, and the drive disappeared from Windows. Since then, the drive has re-appeared, but no blu-ray disks read, including the ones I played back previously.

Not Happy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Blu-Ray device less than a month ago, and frankly it's been nothing but a headache. When I first started out, I would attempt to rip the entire disk. A few episodes of a season would rip then the problems would start. The device would just stop functioning, so I'd have to redo some episodes. Now I just do one episode at a time. Even now, after a few episodes it just seems to fall asleep and I have to keep retrying just to rip a single episode. What sucks even more is that Best Buy only gives you a 15-day window to return items. So I'm out over $100 for a piece of junk that I can't return.

Angry
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am so mad. Opened the Blu-Ray/DVD drive/writer and as soon I took the cable out I knew it was wrong. It was a usb mini to usb cable! It requires a micro that is split at the end for pc and power (2 usbs). The product seemed factory sealed but I blame both Best-buy and LG! I paid $80 bucks for this think and now I have to make my third trip to the store. Notably it’s the only model the stores carry around here that has Blu Ray. Embarrassing Best Buy. For being an elite plus member I demand money back. I always have to go back to your store for things like this. The reason why I shop online more now away from your store. My loyalty is done, this was the last straw.

Design flaw - weak USB connector
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The micro usb connector on this unit is extremely delicate/cheap. Any torque on the wire will cause the connector to dislodge and go inside the machine. This happened to me twice with a store bought and replacement unit. The first time I plugged in the usb and literally pushed the usb socket into the machine. The second time the drive fell less than 1 foot as I tried to transfer the latop and drive from lap to floor.

Don't Buy This
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought an LG External Blu Ray a few years ago (CP50SN20). It came with CyberLink 10.0 OEM. My Star Wars Blu Ray will NOT play on any computer using this drive. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, repeat process four times. I contacted CyberlLink on two different support tickets (one for each computer I tried it on). Both of their responses say the same ... pay $$$ to upgrade to CyberLink 16. I would never recommend this product until it comes with a better Blu Ray vendor.

Wrong Cable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The device came with the wrong cable. I opened the package to make sure it had everything when I bought it. But I didn't need it until several weeks later. When I attempted to set it up I noticed the cable has the wrong USB type and is unable to connect to the device. This falls outside of Best Buy's return and exchange window. I am now waiting on a USED replacement device from LG. The LG customer service was very condescending when called about this problem.
