My new HP laptop requires external drive to play DVDs. This one was reasonably priced and gives me access to my movies and music. It is lightweight and easy to pack to take with me.

I have over 30 years experience as a PC/Server/Network technician. I have always been the Hardware pro on the team. I can say without a doubt that you can not judge this item by its price. I bought it at Best Buy on sale for $19.95 after my $5.00 reward discount and before sales tax. I needed this because my new High End laptop does not come with an optional Internal DVD drive. I knew it would be good due to its specs but anticipated it would be a little slower than an internal one as it uses USB for both power and data. I was greatly surprised that it was as fast as my internal one on my other High end laptop and the one built into my PC. There was no speed degradation and burned my CD-R's and DVD's without a hitch with the included burning software. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheaply priced but good external DVD Drive/Burner. It is an LG so you will definitely be getting a superb and well built product.

Very easy to use. I plugged it into my Windows 10 PC and it was already ready to go. Didn't have to install any drivers or additional software. I needed it for dumping data from discs and it has done that very well Very compact/slim, and not too noisy for the size. Great option since these days most laptops don't include any sort of disc drive so it's nice to have around in case we need it.

Since laptops with solid state drives don’t usually come with a dvd drive, we got this one at a great price so we can rip cds. Not an urgent need but this dvd drive was a great deal and does a great job. Very portable too.

I needed an external drive once I changed to a new HP all-in-one computer that didn't have any internal drive. No problems for a novice to figure out how to use, although I haven't had a chance to write onto any media, just to play CDs and DVDs. The slim profile doesn't clutter up my office desk, which is a plus. Can't speak to durability as yet, so I'm hoping LG turns out to be a reliable brand.

Works better than the Samsung SE-208 it replaced that quit working without warning. Same size footprint without having to deal with a tray that opens out. Quieter unit than the Samsung, Seems to rip CDs slight faster than the Samsung it replaced. Overall very happy with the unit, however I cannot speak on its durability or longevity at this point due to only having it a short while. But I am at this time very happy with it,.

An excellent buy ! The drive in my laptop had stopped reading discs, and I knew if I took it to a repair shop the rapairs would be at least $ 75.00. This drive is compact and fast, and a musc less expensive alternative to computer repairs. Simple plug and play installation, and easy to use. What more could you ask ?

Great little unit at a good price. A terrific way to get around the lack of CD/DVD drives in most newer computers. Included software loaded right up on my Win 11 computer. Compact, and I had no issues with the (relatively short) USB cable. I especially like that it consumes no power while hooked up but not loaded with a disc.

I needed an external CD drive due to the fact that my new laptop did not come with an internal cd disc drive. I am one of those people who still record favorite music on CDs for music enjoyment while on the road (to and from work). I know, I know, old tech - just like my car which is not advanced either, technologically speaking. So, when it was time to make a purchase, I was not looking for anything too elaborate - just an external USB CD drive that would allow me to record purchased music on blank CDs- plain and simple; no fuss. I decided to purchase the LG - 8x External USB Double-Layer DVD±RW/CD-RW Drive - it was in the right price range and seemed to consist of the mere basics of what I needed. I've used it three times, and thus far it works as well as can be expected. Yes, it is a bit slower than that which I am accustomed (high speed internal cd drives of professional work computers), but this product is for recreational use only via the use of a simple, barebones computer. In sum, this product has thus far peformed adequately. If you are looking for a faster, higher speed external CD rewrite drive, then this will probably disappoint.

Purchased this external drive when I discovered my new desktop PC tower did not include a cd rom drive. I needed the drive for loading software on my new pc and this drive does works great.

Easy to set up and use! Great quality for the price. I was initially disappointed that my new laptop had no dvd drive, but, for the amount I need one this is even better! Compact, great purchase!

Does the job and easily connects to pc or Mac. Very fast in comparison to other brands and if you have music cds it makes it easy to copy and covert music files. Over all happy with this product and it wasn’t a bad price either. I would recommend this device as a must have if you have older cds that you want to listen to on your other devices

Very easy to set up and use with my 2019 MacBook Pro. Using it to import CD's into my ITunes library. Came with all the necessary cables (although the MacBook Pro uses only USB-C ports, I needed an adaptor to connect the supplied USB cable to the computer). So far, the unit has performed well. Not too loud, very light weight, reads discs quickly. I would recommend this unit.

I have 2 new computers that don't have a cd/dvd player. I needed to load some graphic programs that I have on dvd. This dvd unit not only was affordable, but was a simple pnp and in minutes I was loading these programs. I'm not sure if it was my imagination, but it seamed to load slower. For me that was ok. I'm really happy with the overall ease of install and performance and price. For you folks out there with computers without a cd/dvd device, I strongly recommend this unit from Best Buy.

Convenient DVD player to have for portability. We got this for our bedroom tv or for on the go. It is pretty good overall. Very basic. We have Apple laptops that are a little older and sometimes that gives us trouble, but I think it's more a problem with Apple than with the DVD player. It is very small and compact which is nice.

I needed this to see my wife's medical imaging results and newer PCs do not come standard with them. Honestly, this is the first time in a few years I even needed to access a DVD disc. This unit was easy to setup, literally plug & play via USB. Slim footprint fits neatly. Great price to top it off!

Simple plug and play operation, recognized by Windows 10 immediately. I have only used it for reading data discs and playing movies on two machines (an HP laptop and a gaming PC), which was my main reason for the purchase. For the price paid (a couple of dollars more than the no name ones on Amazon and Ebay), it was well worth it. I would buy again.
