Our newer laptops don't have DVD read-write drives, we needed this to send some medical records out on a dvd. As soon as you hook it up it's effectively installed, and took care of burning the DVDs in minutes.

Excellent inexpensive DVD writer

Worked just fine right out of the box, just plug and play.. Note: Many reviews I read warned of LG's glitchy software, so I didn't even bother installing what came with the unit. No problem, the Samsung recognized the DVD unit and it works just fine. (BTW, since Windows no longer handles DVDs very well, just install the free media player from VLC.)

Use this when an Apple Super drive won't work

Usually my Apple Super drive works every time I need it to. In this one instance, I needed a DVD drive for a PC in a Graphics production area and it would not. On a hunch, I picked this LG drive up and it worked from the start. It even comes with software for backup and disc burning so it more than did the job for me! The price was reasonable too.

Just what I needed

Works exactly as it should. Very lightweight so I won't mind sticking this in my laptop bag for travel.

As a music teacher, I still use CDs quite a bit and also need the ability to play DVDs on my computer from time to time. I have, so far, been very satisfied with this product. I was able to plug it into the computer and it worked immediately without any sort of set up.
