Since I rarely use dvds/cds I wasn't concerned about not having one. However, a family member recently converted old 8 mm movies to dvd and I wanted to view on my new laptop! The Best Buy salesperson helped me pick this one out. It was easy to set up and use, and I'm pleased to learn that it also works with my iMac (although I've yet to test that functionality).

GREAT DVD Drive

So after trying three different cheap Amazon drives with zero success on our Mac mini, we grabbed this one from Best Buy and it worked PERFECTLY right out of box. Super recommended!

Works well on macbooks with adapter.

You will need an adapter cord for it as there are no hdmi ports on new apple products ( a pain) but this does the trick once you plug into adapter.

Have not tried it as a DVD player, but am sure I will not be disappointed when I do need to use it for that.
