It is great that this disc drive does not need it's own power source. It gets its power through the USB connection to the computer. I refrain from giving it five stars only because I haven't had it long enough to use it extensively. It may deserve five stars. Really retailers should ask for the reviews some substantial time after the purchase. I would just suggest that since TV connectivity is advertised, a little longer USB cable would be helpful to reach the ports in the back of a TV.

Simple and basic. But that is all you need. Works perfect.

Only thing I would have liked is a heavier design but that is personal preference and the actual drive itself works great. I have noticed a shift with the prebuilt gaming computers not adding them preinstalled which is a plus if you can fit extra peripherals in the area. Just remember to purchase this external optical.

It works great! I had no problems setting it up and using the DVD player. I've already watched a number of movies and enjoyed the experience.

I was disappointed when I was unable to get a laptop with an internal DVD/CD drive. Decided to take a chance on the LG and was pleasantly surprised. The laptop recognized it right away and all my old fashioned software loaded without a hitch.

When the internet goes does, I can plug this device into a tv, tab, or laptop and watch a favorite movie. I should be to use it make hard copies on disc to safe digital information. I think might be able to a few other things, but I haven't had much time to work on those others things yet.

I needed this drive to deal with some old home videos & this fit the bill perfectly. Reasonably priced & easy to use. Exactly what I needed.

I purchased this because laptops nowadays don't come with DVD drives. Once in a blue moon need a DVD drive to either repair a computer or to play some movies on my laptop for the kids. This drive works as it should and did not need any additional drivers installed for my laptop to detect it.

New laptops tend not to have optical drives, so you will need one of these if you want to convert physical media to digital, like putting your albums in iTunes. It feels pretty flimsy, but so far it's getting the job done. I have to use the "eject" button within my OS to get it to open when there's media in it.

As most laptops nowadays have deleted the optical drive from the device, you need an external one if you have disks that you want to access on your computer. This external drive does the job and does it at a reasonable price. Has held up fine since purchase.

Since the computer manufacturers chose to eliminate CD/DVD drives from laptops, this external drive is a helpful addition. Reads at good speed. Lightweight and low profile allows it to fit in laptop case easily.

Just upgraded our computer and it doesn't have a cdrom. Well I still have a bunch of them so I found this at best buy and it solved the issue.

This is a great, compact drive that still comes in handy though technology has continued to evolve. You can't go wrong with this purchase at this price point!

The lg extenal cd rom is a good unit for the basic use of adding a drive to a computer with no drive. I have had no issue so far with the use of it.

This is definitely one of those necessary and worthy purchases in my opinion with everything going digital, it's hard to find a computer with a disk drive. This is why I bought this and it reads the disc with ease and efficiency!

I really needed an external drive for my computer. This LG sets up easy and handles all the types of discs that I need it to.

I bought this because the gaming PC I bought didn’t come with an internal optical drive or even a place to mount one. This drive works just as well as a SATA drive and was well worth the price. It was super easy to set up since all you have to do is plug it in and Windows 10 recognizes it.

This works great and has an easy set up. I don't mind the length of the cord, but I could see how that could be a problem if the drive can't be on the laptop itself. Also, you can mess up the rotation of the disk with any quick movement against the drive. But again it works just as it should and I love it so much I bought two!
