My drive in my computer went out and instead of taking the computer to the shop I purchased this and it works fine. Not like there is a whole lot of programs on disc anymore so it was great

I bought this dvd drive to be able to install programs that I have on discs. I also use it to creat data disks and watch dvd movies that I own. It honestly does what it's supposed to and so far I have had no problems using it.

It's sad that laptops don't come with built-in players/writers anymore. But, this works great and is fairly lightweight, so it doesn't create much extra weight in my bag. I keep it in my laptop bag so I have it whenever I need it. So far, so good,

Buyer Beware - Usable Software not Included

The LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer is packaged with obsolete 2016 Cyberlink Media Suite software that will not play DVDs. Neither Best Buy nor LG will accept returns of opened products. So, the customer has to find free (very basic) software online to use the device, or pay Cyberlink for PowerDVD, currently priced at $60. Neither Best Buy nor LG explains this in writing prior to purchase.

Come to find out we didn't need to use the disk for what we wanted to do. It works just fine for us.

It is no different from having it built in the computer as far as the quality. It is easier having it already built in and takes up less time but after you get it set up on the computer then there is no different as you can just leave it set up and plugged into your computer
