Good Value
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. No nonsense external drive. The ease of use could not be improved upon. I purchased a new laptop one month ago and there is no built in CD/DVD drive. I've used it to install photo editing tools that I have on CDs only but I guess that it does much more..

Very useful.
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's Very compact. Very good for traveling with. So far it has performed flawlessly,no problems at all. It operates quietly. (Not noisy). It is a very good device to have since most modern laptops no longer have a built in cd/dvd player. It is worth the money that I paid for it.

Works as advertised
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has done a fine job and is working as advertised. So far we have played back commercially released movie DVDs, burned a DVD-R of home movie recordings, and burned an audio CD. We have not tried the many other supported disc formats. Seems to be plug and play with Mac operating system. The eject button on the front only worked when there was no disc or after "disconnecting" the drive in the Mac Finder window (but not physically disconnecting), but not while paused or stopped with an active disc in the device; however, I believe this is a quirk of the Mac OS and not the burner. Would have liked the eject button on the DCD drive to also be an independent manual override any time, but there is the usual pinhole for that, if needed. And it may behave differently with other operating systems.

Simple solution for laptops with CD/DVD drives
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My newest laptop did not come with a CD/DVD drive, so I bought this to play music. All I had to do is plug it into a USB port and I was able to use Windows Media Center to play music. As simple as could be. It seems to have a little more problem playing old scratched CD's than the built-in CD player on my old laptop, but in general it works great. It comes with CyberLink software which I think can burn CDs and DVDs. Nothing for viewing DVDs however. I had to download the VLC media player (which is free). That's why I gave a 3 not a 4. My laptop with a built-in CD/DVD includes software for burning and playing CDs and DVDs.

Had to have it, no CD/DVD drive on new laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to have this since absolutely NONE of the new design laptops contain an on-board CD/DVD drive any longer. It installed easily enough and I tested it out by playing a DVD or 2, no issues. I mainly bought it to import physical CDs from my massive collection into my digital library and haven't had a chance to get to any of that yet as I've only had the device about a month. I know - who does that anymore, just stream it. Newsflash - that only works where you have ample signal and believe me there are plenty of places where that just will not work. So far so good, seems like a solid enough component.

Can now watch DVD's on laptop - compact
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently bought a new laptop that didn't come with a built in DVD/CD drive. With this external drive, can now watch DVD's or listen to CD's on my laptop - makes it nice for travel. Easy plug and play operation. Compact and lightweight. Fits nicely in computer bag. Have had no issues with skipping or not playing clearly.

Budget friendly great results
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While it doesn’t make sense in my head that you use a software cd to install an external cd drive, it works. Photos and music and even X-rays. It’s lightweight so it feels flimsy but it’s really not. If that makes sense.
