    I needed a Portable DVD drive because the newest iMac's do not have one built-in and I still have older CD's with data on them.This unit does not come with its own power cord, and a powered USB connection is required; plug it directly into a USB port on your computer, and you'll be good to go. On windows systems you'll need to install the software that is provided, but not on Macs.
