    I needed a CD=ROM and DVD player for my laptop that lacks the built in. So, when I need to write a DVD or CD I can. Without carrying around the weight even as little as it is. Great when you need a double layer DVD. I can use my existing burning software. Can be used easily via USB ports.

    So I bought this because my pc and laptop have no drives and only used it when I set it up on both machines. The software bundled with this is Powerdvd and from what I remember it is very easy to use even for a non tech savvy person. You will need 2 usb ports to plug it in.
