It is very convenient for trips and such to be able to watch a movie. I am very happy with my purchase.

Extra storage

Since iTunes messes with my songs, I own the original cd to play in the car. Since my laptops are now lacking a dvd writer/player, I want to play said discs on them on occasion. The speed is quite impressive! I haven’t had any issues so far. I really got this as the price is too good to pass up [sic]! I am going to explore the dual-layer capability soon!

Great catch in case your laptop DVD drive gives up

We were thinking about going to a repair shop and getting it repaired. But then we found this portable drive on the website. Instead of getting the drive replaced, we opted for buying the portable DVD drive. It costs about 30 dollars. You install the driver and you are in business. We do a lot of DVD watching on our laptop and this works just fine so far. we play something on it every day. IF you dont mind having this thing outside of your laptop, then as a product it works great. We have not tried the DVD recording feature yet.
