When I received the device, it would turn on and make a clicking noise, but wouldn’t ever read discs or show up in Finder. After talking with Apple and LG support, LG noted that it is not compatible with Catalina, but it is with Mojave. I don’t know why this isn’t specified anywhere. It would have saved me several hours of frustration. It’s a little flimsy, but it is probably fine if you are running a compatible system.

External DVD drives, like this unit, can sometimes have compatibility issues with certain types of DVDs, especially if the discs are not finalized properly or if the software drivers aren't up to date. Since the included software isn't helping, we recommend checking for any firmware or driver updates on the LG website. Also, try using a different media player (such as VLC) to see if that resolves the issue, as some software might be more compatible with certain discs.
Regarding the micro USB connection, it’s worth making sure that your device is properly recognizing the drive. A powered USB hub could also help, as sometimes the power provided by the micro USB connection isn’t enough to run the drive efficiently, especially for certain DVDs.

Some say yes, some say no. I have now tried two (I returned the first one as "defective") on a brand new 16" MacBook Pro with the same results...it does not appear in the device list, it does not spin a disc, it does not do anything but blink and click. LG support line suggested I try plugging into a Windows machine to test it "for incompatibility", while, in the next sentence, assuring me it is Mac compatible. Even the manufacturer isn't sure! Disappointing...I bought this specifically because of good experience with LG products...I will be returning it for another brand.
