Purchase if you never plan to move the item off a desk....but if you need something to be portable, spend $50 more and purchase something more durable.

I needed this to install a program on a CD onto my laptop (because laptops don’t come with cd drives anymore). It just didn’t work. The drive kept chugging and churning (made a lot of noise for about 10 minutes) like it was indeed doing something but it never did load the contents of the CD. I even restarted my laptop a few times thinking maybe the drive needed to be “recognized” by my laptop in some way but the same chugging and churning ensued. I returned it to Best Buy the next day.

Does not work

I said I have never heard of a dvd writer. He said it's on sale $14.95 and works just like a dvd player. I did the lengthy instillation, put in a movie to test the writer. Nothing happened. Then I tried to uninstall it because I don't like things that don't work and I wanted it completely off my computer. It ran the un-installation process and said uninstall complete. THERE'S still parts of it in my "uninstall a program." Unfortunately it's too late for me to return it but I have never been so disappointed in an LG product. I need to find a reasonable DVD player.
