Defective Door Release. Geek Squad not worth it.

When it breaks, it is not covered by the warranty nor is it covered by the geek squad warranty. We sent out microwave in to get the button fixed and they said this is a common issue with these microwaves but, since LG doesn't cover it under warranty, neither will Geek Squad. Very frustrating, especially when the first line of the Geek Squad protection plan states: "If there's a failure from normal wear and tear, we'll repair it or replace your product."

One day all of suddenly the interior light bulb stopped working. Not sure if bestbuy will do anything. Any info from bestbuy or LG would be useful

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great microwave, full of features but only lasted about one year before the door release started failing. The design is flawed, in my opinion. The door release button is connected on the right side, by two lightweight plastic standoffs that act as a pivot joint for the button. Both failed and couldn't be replaced because they are connected to the front panel. I initially epoxied the first that broke off, but within a few months, the second had broken as well, and in a manner that couldn't be fixed. For a few months it was used with the button only partially attached until the epoxied standoff once again broke. This unit was used primarily by a 70+ year old woman, and not often aside from holiday gatherings. Multiple calls to LG service lead nowhere - they don't sell the front panel but are willing to sell me a replacement button.

My guess is most of the reviews were written soon after purchase. The unit is very good for a relatively short time frame and then the cheap parts in the door open button break and in my case, the digits in the read out disintegrate to the point that they they can not be read. LG would be good to get out of the microwave business or spent a few bucks more and make a product that does not denigrate their company name
