The sound quality is good for the music I prefer which is rap and mostly R&B. They're very loud so I don't have to listen at full volume. I am an android user and aware that alot of earbuds don't read the full text message out but these do. They also have multiple options to customize your sound quality. Such as, bass boost, treble 3d stage and immerse. Even better you can choose between noise canceling and ambient that allows you to hear conversations through the music or just conversation alone. This came in handy during a time that I needed to hear my name called in a very noisy place. You can also go without noise canceling or ambient. The main thing I love about these is the ability to customize your particular sound experience even to the way you skip a song or change the volume. These have absolutely become my favorite earbuds by far. The case and earbuds hold a very good charge and they are very comfortable. I've been able to wear them throughout the day with no problems. If I had one complaint it would be that I've had text messages constantly read over and over even after removing the notification. I'm overall very happy with this product. Haven't seen any other earbuds that allow you to use the case as the aux port while still having the wireless access.

The LG Tone Free FP9 earbuds are a good set of earbuds. They aren't perfect but they introduce some new and unique features like UV nano sanitization and the ability to use the case as a Bluetooth transmitter. Which is great if you are a germaphobe or if your inflight entertainment screen only has an AUX output. With that said, after a week of using the earbuds, here are some pros and cons I found. Pro's - The case is excellent. It charges fast, It's small, light and smooth to the touch. Which makes it easily pocketable. All this and somehow, they still were able to add a Bluetooth transmitter. - The batteries were good. I was able to use the buds for over a week without having to recharge the case. - The sound quality is good. Mids. and highs are clear and bright, and the bass is slightly better than average. - Bluetooth connection is phenomenal. It pairs instantly, and at 45 feet, with two walls between my phone and the buds it still maintains an excellent connection. Also, I received the same great performance when I used the Bluetooth transmit function of the case. - Call quality was good. Everyone I spoke to told me they couldn't tell I was using earbuds and I could hear them perfectly clear. - The tone Free App was good. It was easy to use and allowed for full customization of the earbuds. Cons - Noise canceling and transparency mode were acceptable at best. On the highest ANC setting the buds still let in a lot of ambient sound. However, the transparency mode was pretty good. - Within an hour of wearing the buds they become very uncomfortable. Which is confusing to me. They have the same shape and profile as other buds on the market but somehow these were uncomfortable for me. And it wasn't because I was using the wrong sized ear tips. Your results may be different. - No wireless charging. In conclusion, these are a good set of buds and I would recommend them for travelers or anyone that wants to add Bluetooth to a non-Bluetooth device.

Good sounding ANC earbuds, but love the wireless plug-in feature most of all. It lets you plug the case into any headphone jack and basically turns it into a bluetooth transmitter for the headphones. It’s a really handy feature that I found myself using way more than I thought I would. I keep the bluetooth connected to my phone, and I use the plug-in feature to quickly hook up to my laptop or desktop. This makes it an easy hook up to my work computer too, but it’s only for audio, so I have to use the bluetooth connection to use the mic for Zoom and Teams. Not a big deal. I also like how I can use just 1 ear bud and it doesn’t matter which side. It seamlessly disconnects and reconnects when I decide to use the other one again, which is kind of amazing considering other high end brands struggle to make this transition so smooth. If you decide to keep both earbuds in, the Ambient Sound mode works great at letting environmental sounds through with a natural tone and there’s a vocal focus feature that works great at projecting voices more clearly. The active noise canceling is solid at muffling loud sounds and crowd noise, but it doesn’t go totally silent. To get the best sound and noise canceling experience, be sure to try out all of the earbud cushion sizes to find the best fit. The ANC needs a good ear seal to work properly, and that goes for the sound quality as well. Which leads me to an odd experience I have with these. The earbud cushions are soft, medical grade material, but it almost feels like they’re too soft. They feel weird when I put them in, like they don’t seem to “lock” in like my other earbuds do, but they stay in place well and are comfortable enough that I forget I’m wearing them sometimes. I think I’m just used to a firmer cushion and need to get more used to the softer style. A good ear seal is critical to good audio and noise canceling for these kinds of headphones. With the LG Tone Free app, you can access the adjustable EQ, noise canceling, ambient sound, touch pad control, and a few other feature settings. Audio is tuned by Meridian, which excited me as an old school audiophile, but I wasn’t blown away. They sound good overall, the sound is full and the bass is detailed, but there’s a certain “openness” to the soundstage that’s missing. Like the sound is well controlled, but a little restrained… if that makes sense. But while it’s not the absolute best sounding ANC earbuds out there, they’re certainly one of the most useful. The case is tiny, yet holds an additional 24 hours of charge, doubles as a bluetooth transmitter, and even has a built-in UV sterilization light to keep the earbuds sanitary. The earbuds are low profile, attractive, and offer good sound quality with excellent ambient sound pass through. If you’re constantly hooking up to multiple devices, travel frequently, or have a lot of audio devices without a bluetooth connection, I highly recommend the LG Tone Free FP9 headphones. - Good sound quality - Moderate bass - Good noise canceling - Plug in feature is very useful (laptop, gaming, planes) - Low profile - Looks good - Comfortable - Feels weird putting in - Stays put well - UV sterilization case - Ambient audio works well - Can’t adjust ambient audio pass through volume - Proper critical to sound quality and noise canceling - Great for traveling - 10 hour charge/24 with case

Packaging very simple and frustration free, earbuds case two cables. Usb-c to a for charging and usb-a to 3.5mm to connect the earbuds to a device without bluetooth. This optional connecting is really cool with one downside, it's audio only so you can't use it to talk and listen. But if you have an old TV or something this would be perfect for quiet time at night. Sound is solid, fit is ok you get three sizes of standard tips. They never felt snug to me but I prefer earhooks personally for stability. There's an app LG Tone that really brings these to life and customization highly recommend but not required. These seemed loud and when I cranked up the tunes I could really immerse myself into the music. Battery life was great and you talking 24 hrs+ between earbud and charging case time. Charging them up is fast although the cord is pretty short. They have a UV light that supposedly kills most of the ear germs but I can't really speak to it without being a scientist with a microscope. I wouldn't choose these over competitor brands if you aren't interested in the 3.5mm to usb functionality. Other than the UV light killing germ feature that's the only thing that really gives these an identity of their own. I was disappointed that you couldn't use the 3.5mm connection as a fully functioning headset but in fairness the manual makes this very clear. If you want them for utility go for it, if you just want the best sounding earbuds for the price range I think you can do better.

The LG Tone does a great job delivering high quality sound. I like the touch pad on each ear bud, so much better than a physical button. Tap right to mute, twice for volume, long press for noise cancellation filtering. The case is far more useful than just a battery extender; while charging, a UV light LG calls UVNano, decontaminates the mesh and earbuds. In these times, I feel it's an added precaution. The most desirable and useful feature of the case however, is the ability to connect the included double sided headphone jack to any compatible device, even the entertainment consoles of an aircraft. To do this, you slide the switch on the case to the headphone icon and it will automatically connect the earbuds via bluetooth to the case and deliver the same quality audio experience. In this setting, the equalizer and other features of the app will not work unless connected to the phone. This is a surprising feature (along with the way its implemented) that you would normally find on larger on-ear units. The sound reproduction is really good with a fair amount of bass tone, coupled with it's unique features, is a worthy purchase!

    Decent Sound - Decent Price

Earbuds come with charging case, USB C charging cable, USB C to Auxiliary cable, user manual and extra ear gel tips in different sizes (small, medium and large) for better fit. Controls are simple, tap to play/pause or answer a call. Double tap the left ear bud to lower volume or double tap right to raise the volume and triple tap either to skip to the next song. The earbuds fully charged give you about 10 hours of play time alone. There is no need to recharge the case every time you want to charge the earbuds because the case holds 2 charges for you. Sound quality on these earbuds is really good and gives a decent bass sound. Of course, if the sound doesn’t suit you, you can use the app to adjust to your liking. The LG Tone Free app lets you chose from different EQ settings and even has a “find my ear buds” feature. These are very comfortable to wear. In fact, I have fallen asleep with them in my ears and forgot they were even there. I love that this works with devices that do not have Bluetooth but do have an audio jack. Plug the case into an audio jack, flick a switch, put the earbuds in and you have wireless ear buds working with an audio jack. The case is able to kill bacteria on the earbuds within 5 minutes of being in the case, because it has UVnano. This means that UV is sanitizing your earbuds. In this day and age, it is a huge plus in my book, especially if you have a song you want someone else to hear by using your earbuds. I would definitely recommend these to a friend. They may not be as good as your high end earbuds, but they have a lot of pluses and the price is not quite as steep.

Great earbuds, but with a fatal flaw

In a very crowded market for true wireless earbuds, LG introduced their latest earbuds with a new gimmick: a case that includes UV light to kill germs on the ear gels. I’m not sure about how other people do it, but I’m not one for loaning out my earbuds to others, so the idea of killing my own germs isn’t a compelling feature for me. However, I do think it’s a good thing to have, as long as I don’t have to pay extra for it. I have a lot of earbuds from different manufacturers (yeah, I have a problem), and I have long thought that the top two characteristics that matter for earbuds are sound and fit. If they’re not comfortable, you won’t wear them, and if they don’t sound good, then why have them? On the sound front, the FP9s sound very, very good. LG’s app provides a number of EQ presets, some of which are quite good. There is the ability to set a custom EQ, but I actually found the custom settings to not be quite as good as the presets—not something I usually find. Presets don’t normally make much of a difference, so this was a pleasant surprise. I will continue to play with the custom settings, but for now I’ve been quite pleased with the presets. At a retail price of $200, these are playing in the premium space, so they should sound good, and I’m pleased to say that they do. As for fit, this is where I think that LG dropped the ball. Like most earbuds, they come with 3 sizes of ear gels (S, M, L), but these are smaller than the ear gels from any other manufacturer that I’ve seen. As a result, I was unable to find any size that would provide a good seal in my ear canal and thus a good fit. I struggled to even get them to insert properly in my ear until I substituted ear gels from another set of ear buds that I have (see, there is an advantage to having so many), and this solved my problems. Unfortunately, LG did not provide any extra space in the case that could accommodate larger ear gels, and this prevents the case from fully closing, which means they don’t turn off. I’ll see how much of a problem this becomes, but removing the ear gels after each use is just not an option. If I had not been able to find a suitable replacement ear gel, I would have to conclude that these are simply unusable, so this is a serious problem. I’m not sure why LG decided to go with ear gels so much smaller than those used by others, but you’ll want to keep this in mind if you’re considering buying these. The FP9s have a feature that I haven’t seen on any other set of earbuds, a feature that LG calls “plug and wireless”. The case itself can serve as a Bluetooth transmitter, allowing you to plug it into any 3.5mm headphone jack and use your earbuds with sources that don’t have Bluetooth of their own. This could be useful with the entertainment systems on airplanes or at the gym. I have an old MP3 player that I really like, but haven’t been able to use it as much since I switched to wireless earbuds, so I was very excited to learn that LG offers this feature. Unfortunately, the sound level produced this way is very low and not something you’ll want to use. For comparison, I plugged in my Bose headphones, which include a wired option. The Bose headphones sounded great, and I could use them at half the volume required when I used the LG charging case transmitter. I assume this has something to do with the transmitter not putting out much power, but this makes this feature something that I’ll only use in a pinch. This is disappointing, but certainly not the main reason for buying the FP9s. These days it’s important that ear buds be usable for phone calls. The microphones in the FP9 work very well for phone calls, and my voice on the other end was very clear. Callers had no trouble understanding me. LG’s choice of using the “stem” style for the earbuds probably helps with microphone pickup, but however they did it, these are just fine for phone calls. Being able to control your audio source with just the earbuds has become a common feature. Some manufacturers use physical buttons, while others implement touch-sensitive buttons. I like physical buttons, but if they’re too hard to press you just end up shoving the earbud into your ear canal. Touch-sensitive buttons are often hit or miss. Sometimes they’re too sensitive and you end up hitting them when you don’t mean to, and other times they require multiple attempts before they actually register your touch. LG has gotten it right on the FP9. They wisely did not try to make the entire stem into a touch surface. Instead, a small portion at the top of the stem is the active touch area. This makes it much easier to find the spot on the FP9s compared to others I’ve used. They’ve also implemented a helpful audio cue that lets you know when you’ve touched the right spot. In my opinion, this is the first set of earbuds I’ve had with touch-sensitive buttons that are actually useful and not annoying. Like many earbuds available in this class, they offer features such as pausing the audio when an earbud is removed. This works well, but I always disable this, as I don’t find it useful for the way I use earbuds, but it’s nice to have the option. LG also provides a helpful app that is necessary if you want to change the EQ settings, reassign button functionality, or check the charge level. The app also provides access to the user manual, which is helpful, but it sometimes did not recognize the earbuds and I had to put the earbuds in the case before it would recognize them. Active noise cancellation is also included as is hear-through functionality. The ANC is good, but not great, but it is definitely useful for canceling out wind noise when you’re outside. LG has made it easy to switch between these two modes by simply long-pressing either earbud, which I appreciate. My overall impression is that the FP9 is so close to being my “go to” earbuds, but where they missed the mark, they are pretty big misses. Sound quality is awesome, but if you can’t get a good fit, that doesn’t mean much. The “plug and wireless” feature needs to provide a sound level comparable to what you get with your phone in order to be truly useful, but it is very nice to have the ability to do this. At a much lower price point, I would be more forgiving, but these are priced at a higher level where the competition is pretty fierce, so they need to deliver. If the ear gels provided work for you, you’ll love these!

If you are in the market for a new set of wireless headphones, look no more. The LG - TONE headphones not only look great, but they feel great around my ears. You get a crisp and clear audio sounds from TONE headphones. Another plus for me is the design of the case. I really like the look of it and the fact that you can get multiple charges from it for on-the-go enjoyment. The buds feel great and, unlike other earbud style headphones, do not hurt my ears after wearing the for a long period of time. I use them while working out, and so far, they are holding up great. If you are in the market for a new set of headphones, the LG - TONE headphones are a great option. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

    Best in-ear headphones I've tried

Overall, these are the best in-ear headphones I’ve ever used. Here’s why: Staying on – I’ve tried a lot of in-ear headphones, and these stay in the ear better than any other pair that I’ve ever used. They are lighter weight, and more secure, so I have no trouble walking/jogging outside wearing these. As a bonus, with staying in the ear better, the ANC works better as well. This isn’t amazing ANC like you get with high-end over-ear headphones, but it is good for tiny, in-ear headphones. Sound Quality – It’s good. You rarely find headphones with what I would consider bad sound at this point, but these have good audio quality. No issues. Connection – The Bluetooth connection could not be easier. As soon as I opened the case for the first time, I was prompted to connect them to my phone. I didn’t even need to go into the Bluetooth settings to manually make the connection. Also, I’ve never had the connection flicker or falter in any way. Even when using power tools or a microwave, no issues. Battery life – This may be slightly overstated. I never got 10 hours at one time, but then I was never able to wear them for a full 10 hours straight. They stay in the ear, but they might become uncomfortable after a while. The longest that I used them was about 6 hours before I was prompted to a low battery. This was enough that my ears were too sore to use them the following day. Controls – These do have touch-controls on the earbuds. I don’t recall what 1, 2, or 3 taps do off the top of my head, but they worked when I used them. I still ended up reaching for my phone more than ever tapping the earbuds. Overall – Excellent earbuds, and if you can get them on sale, definitely go for it. I’m not sure I’d pay the full $200 retail, but around $150 or so you’ll likely find them to be the best in the price range.

I’m a big fan of these earbuds. Once you pair them to your device one time, they automatically pair whenever you put them in. They stay in my ears, which is rare for me when it comes to earbuds with the rubber pieces. I’ve been using them at the gym for a solid week and have yet to charge them, so they have a great battery life. Overall, no complaints, I would highly recommend these earbuds.

I like these for a lot of reasons. However, I don't love them enough for 5 stars. They pair super easy and I love that the case cleans them after each use. The controls are really good and I love that the companion app gives sound options and access to ANC and passthrough. I actually wish more things had to option to use the case as a wireless base. It is awesome that I can plug the case in and listen to my desktop PC. The part I just can't love is they are hollow sounding. I can't get a good balance that gives enough base. Phone calls are fine, podcasts and audiobooks are super close, but music is just not up to standard. I'd give 4.5 stars if I could but 4 will have to do.

Bought these to replace my galaxy buds after losing one. I returned them the next day. The noise reduction is horrible not really noise cancelation. The worse part though was that it would randomly have static noises. Almost the same sound as someone blowing in your mic. I also had a huge issue with battery life. Id constantly have to charge them.

Plug and Wireless - No Mic

The plug and wireless function does not support the mic. The connector is 2 pole for stereo and not 3 to support the mic. The marketing is misleading. Do NOT buy if you expect to use the plug and wireless function for "zoom calls" or on your PC as a mic.
