I needed a DVD drive to use as backup storage for my pictures downloaded onto my Mac. I also wanted it in order to access my pics downloaded from old PC, and also to edit our camcorder movie DVD's. This device does the job and works great.

This item contains more access to more functions than I expected. You'd probably have to take a class just to learn how to use the additional software this writer came with. You are definitely getting your $ worth with this writer purchase.

I needed a disc drive to go along with my new laptop. This is the perfect size and it does everything that i need it to. Easy instalation.

Bought this for my Toshiba Satallite (windows 7) to burn DVDs. The unit is extremely light, quiet and portable. Comes with a 23" USB cable, but can be used with a longer USB to micro connector cable if necessary. Very satisfied with this unit.

I bought this device soley for the read purpose only and have not tested the write capability, so far, so good, very easy to set up and reads cd's and dvd's pretty quickly.

works slower than I'm used to, but thanks to apple eliminating internal drives, you're stuck with externals such as this. as I don't use it often, I didn't see the need to spend almost double for the apple drive.

This compact light weight DVD writer is a nice addition for someone who is will to make the jump to a laptop without a DVD drive. It plugs into a USB port when you need it, but you don't need to take it with you everywhere you go. You don't often need a DVD drive anymore but there are times when it is needed. Works well and the price won't break the bank.

Not too expensive and does everything you will need it too! The features of it being super slim, quiet, and light are positive benefits!

My new laptop didn't have a DVD/CD drive. This was easy to set up, and has worked perfectly for watching DVD movies. I highly recommend it.

When it comes to USB optical drives the choices are few. Spite being cheap and flimsy this LG DVD optical drive gets the job done.

Obviously not as fast as a desktop or other integrated drive, it gets the job done for occasional use with most modern computers not coming with built in drives.

I purchased this cd drive to install software on my Macbook Air. I figured I could save a bunch of money by buying this rather than an apple brand drive. Initially, I had some difficulty installing it but once I downloaded some additional software it worked flawlessly. It is plastic and a bit flimsy for as far as plastic goes. So it wouldn't be a good idea for a road warrior to take it with them on the road but if it is just going to sit around waiting to be used it is a good way to save some money.

The slim design is great. Fits in my computer bag easily and takes up very little space. Install was seamless; no disc, just plug and play.

Works as advertised and costs very little. Good replacement for my computer's built-in drive that conked out. Played everything I wanted it to play and recorded everything I wanted it to record. Am using it on a 2009 iMac.

Great addition for today's laptops. Can view DVDs, download music CDs, lots of other uses. And is very small and lightweight.

Okay, this is the ONE THING I've bought at Best Buy lately that I haven't had trouble with. It's a CD drive, and it reads CDs. Yay! The main thing I've used it for is installing a driver for an HP printer that I failed to download from the internet (no help from HP) to an Asus laptop that I also had trouble with (no help from Best Buy). Anyhow, it's nice that there's something out there that can actually be plugged in and expected to work without paying an extra 20% in order to get the bleeping Geek Squad to talk to you.

I use this drive for work, as the new laptops that my company has provided do not have optical drives! As I understand that most newer laptops are coming without optical drives, as most software/drivers are downloadable.

Great product for the price. Easy to use. Very handy to have so that you can connect it to any other tablet or laptop and travel with it.

its a good external cd drive to burn n play discs for my mac. the only problem is that while burning the disc, if it gets moved or shaken even a little bit, the disc gets an error and has to be burnt again.

This unit is extremely light weight. I bought it with my new laptop that did not have a CD drive. The idea was to load all of my music and even some movies to my computer/ITunes. The problem is finding the right programs to download to actually allow your computer to play the CD/DVD. It took a long day of watching YouTube videos, reading online articles and downloading items before finally finding what worked best. This wouldn't be a problem at all to take along on a trip to play movies on my laptop.
