Customers are saying

Customers recognize the UltraGear 27" IPS LED QHD monitor's exceptional picture quality, high refresh rate, and vibrant colors as significant strengths. Many appreciate its value for the price and the effective performance of its G-Sync and FreeSync compatibility. However, some users point to the HDR's dimness and the monitor stand's design as potential drawbacks. A few also mentioned issues with IPS glow, though this is often considered inherent to IPS panel technology.

    Exceptional Quality and Viewing Experience

The LG 27GN850 is an excellent 1440p IPS gaming monitor that has very few compromises. Out of the box, the display was both vibrant and mind-blowing. Coming from a 1080p TN panel, the jump to an IPS 1440p monitor was a night and day difference; the colors and image quality truly blew me away. The only cons I could give this monitor is (1) the IPS glow in low light situations and (2) how using a resolution other than the native 2160x1440p, such as going back to 1080p, makes the image look blurry and stretched awkwardly. I would only recommend this display if you have a pc that effectively utilize the 1440p at a high refresh rate. All in all, the monitor was well worth the price (especially since it was on sale).

Great G-SYNC 2K gaming monitor for the price

For the money, this is an excellent 2K gaming monitor. Since I use nVidia, having the G-SYNC compatibility really does optimize this monitor. If you are going to use HDR, make sure you have a GOOD graphics card, such as the GTX 3060 series. DisplayPort and HDMI are standard, but I always recommend DisplayPort for gaming over HDMI. The smoothness of the graphics on screen is wonderful, and I have not seen any issues on the borders of the screen while using my computer on Windows or playing games. LG makes some nice monitors, and I recommend them overall. The reason for 4 out of 5 stars is for the monitor you can sometimes get the same or a little better currently, but this is still a really good monitor. The other reason for the four stars is something I have issues with on many gaming monitors, and that is the on-screen controls from the bottom of the monitor. I have never been a fan of this, and I think there should be easier ways to use the onscreen controls for the monitor, even adding extra software for install on your operating system.

This monitor looks amazing! I bought it for gaming and online D&D. You can put four Windows in a grid and it’s like having four 13” monitors in one. My fiancée uses it for work too.

Beautiful picture, bought 2 Asus Tuf Monitor, didn't like the picture quality compared to this LG, only one small gripe, definitely not a deal breaker, wish the height can go a little bit lower

    Great monitor for competitive gaming

I bought this open-box for around $400. For a nano-IPS, this is a decent price. It's exceptionally good for competitive fast-paced FPS games. I would wholeheartedly recommend it over cheaper 1440p 144Hz IPS panels. However, I found cheaper alternatives with nano-IPS panels, so I ended up returning this. Nothing wrong with the monitor itself, though. Gotta give Best Buy a shout-out for making the return process extremely simple and hassle-free. For those looking into nano-IPS, you can find them for around $350 at time of writing, late-2020.

Good by itself, horrible in multi monitor setup

When I upgraded my 10 year old gaming rig earlier this year, I used this monitor replaced a 7 year old 24" Samsung Syncmaster 1920x1200 monitor that served as the main monitor of my old gaming rig. (The Samsung is still going strong as a secondary monitor on a $250 Lenovo refurb office PC) Overall, I am happy with this purchase overall, obviously going from 60hz to 144hz makes a huge difference in 3d games. Fast FPS games such as Quake live are now buttery smooth. The colors looks great in general desktop usage and the speed is nice. The negatives: - This monitor does not "play well with others" in a multi monitor setup (with a 27" Dell Y2721D) on an NVidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. Plugging in a second monitor resulted in bizarre graphical glitches such as game content being rendered on the wrong screen, loss of HDR functionality, buggy exit from the game resulted in graphical glitches that required a full Windows reboot, and so on. I suspect this has to do with the fact that one monitor is 144hz and the other is 60hz, or some other mismatch at the driver level. In any case, I can't believe that I am forced to use a single monitor with this beefy setup with a video card that has 4 outputs. I am not sure who is to blame here, Nvidia, LG, Microsoft Windows 10, or Dell. I took off 2 stars for this as this is a massive disappointment. - the OSD menu gaming mode presets are set in stone and you cannot mix and match the features you may actually want (144hz, Adaptive-sync, HDF, Fast/Faster response time, DAS mode, etc) A lot of these features are mutually exclusive depending on the preset you choose - overly bright, even at 0% brightness it feels like it is blasting out 10 times as many photons as it needs to which is not ideal for night time low-light use (though the silver lining is that it forces me to go to bed at a reasonable hour) - Windows 10 HDR mode did not work for me. I had to turn off the stock Windows HDR mode, as it was preventing games from running at high frame rates / 144hz and in fact was causing weird FPS drop issues. Once again, I am not sure if it's Nvidia's or LG's or Microsoft's fault there, but something about these drivers is very glitchy. Once turned off, games run fine, but obviously I can't use the standard desktop HDR mode. I don't really like it, but this may be important to you. Overall I am disappointed that all these fancy features are not "plug-and-play" and are in fact super glitchy, difficult to configure, and don't play nice with other monitors. Conclusion: Nice monitor for gaming if you are using a single monitor setup. Avoid if you want to run multiple monitors or use the HDR mode in Windows 10.

Great picture and refresh rate. My only complaint is the unnecessarily deep stand. Takes unreasonable desk real estate to place it in your desk. 12+ inches of depth. I have an L shaped corner desk and I have to push the monitor as far back as it can go and my keyboard barely has enough room to not be hanging off the edge. Nothing wrong with the monitor, just the stand design.

I bought 3 of these monitors for work. The colors out of the box were beautiful thus there wasn't a need to tinker with the settings. The negatives and why I didn't give the LG a 5 star, and this is nit picking. 1. The stand is ugly and takes up a large footprint of the desk. If desk depth is a concern, then one might want a different monitor or a mount. 2. There's no built in speakers. Yes I read the specs but after working with a monitor that had built in speakers, missing speakers got annoying over time. Passing bluetooth headphones back and forth cannot be the solution. 3. The AC plug is not a standard plug. It's bulky to the point that on a power strip, the next outlet over can be covered, thus one monitor takes up two outlets...depending on the power strip setup.

I'm coming from a 24 inch BenQ XL2420G 144mHz 1080p monitor. When I purchased that monitor back in 2016 it was originally about $700, though I think I got mine from Fry's for $599. I thought that monitor was a beast, but this new LG leaves it in the dust. While there is some light bleed during blacks - the HDR is pretty decent and there are many color profiles. In addition, if you do some basic calibration the color representation is rock solid. This thing is pretty bright at max setting, thought I tend to leave my brightness between 30-40. The monitor is sleek, and the response times are amazing. Games look great and I couldn't be more satisfied with my purchase.

It is basically the gl850 but without the usb hub. Though it is a newer panel it does have better colors without calibrating with a side by side comparison to a gl850 I own. Worth the discount

The only thing you should worry about is even though it is an HDR10 enabled monitor it is not a proper HDR experience and you should not buy this monitor expecting the HDR experience to be good.

What a phenomenal monitor! Purchased as an upgrade on my old 60Hz monitor and did not disappoint. The 27” screen is the perfect size. The 1ms response times and 144Hz took a bit of time for my eyes & brain to adjust, but I feel it has markedly improved performance in FPS and RPG gaming. Includes NVIDIA G-Sync. Stand is supportive and functional, offering easy height adjustment, and pivots to stand vertical. Super simple assembly, plug-and-play. Only complaint is lack of speakers. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality. Price is a bit steep, but I remind myself this simply is an investment that will last for years to come.
