Unique design but impractical.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG XBOOM 360 Portable Bluetooth Omnidirectional Speaker checks a lot of marks but the one thing that will stand out to you immediately is irony of using the word “portable” in its description. This speaker is huge at 20 inches tall and heavy (almost 13 lbs.) The only thing that makes it portable is the built-in battery. However, with big size comes usually comes big sound. Does the XBOOM sound match its bold size and design? Sound – The speaker’s strong suit is its power. The bass is strong and the sound fills the room due to its omnidirectional design (more on that below.) There is no distortion even at the highest setting but some of the mid ranges sound do get slightly washed out at lower volumes. Adjusting the equalizer to the specifics of the audio type make a dramatic difference. When using indoors, one thing to consider is the audio may not always sound as large as a comparably priced speaker that has a more directional design. There are a lot of factors that can affect that – room size, ceiling height, placement in the room, items in the room etc... Keep in mind that reviewing the sound is purely subjective, but I assure you that a speaker in this price range is going to have pretty good sound. Design – As mentioned, the LG XBOOM 360 is very large for portable speaker. To help move it, the speaker has satin finished metal handle at the top. It is cone shaped speaker so it’s base is very stable. The XBOOM 360 is well made with top materials that give it an elegant fit and finish. The speaker has no IP rating whatsoever. That means it is not rated for any water or dust resistance. Odd and disappointing for a speaker that is designed to be used outside. Battery - The battery life is officially listed at 10 hours, and I was able to get a bit more than that with volume at about 40% and minimal lights. For its size, I was expecting the battery life to not be great so I was pleasantly surprised. I know some people will not be thrilled with 10 hours of battery life, but you really need to consider how big of a sound this speaker generates. The downside of the battery is the charging time, after two hours it was only at 40%. Connectivity – LG XBoom 360 supports Bluetooth, 3.5mm aux-in, and a USB port for connecting to a USB drive. The Bluetooth is very strong, I was able to get a continuous signal two rooms away from the speaker. There is no wi-fi connection and, hence, no smart speaker integration. In conclusion, the LG XBOOM 360 is a unique speaker that has wide reaching, powerful panoramic sound. The speaker is very well made but it’s huge size, weight and lack of any waterproofing limit it’s practicality.

More than a Bluetooth speaker!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I picked up the LG XBoom 360° portable Bluetooth speaker for my patio during the summer months to add some music to my outdoor living area. The LG XBoom 360° is not your average Bluetooth device because of its size and the sound it produces. First impressions are this is a giant tabletop Bluetooth speaker and resembles many smaller portable speakers. The XBoom has a fairly large Woofer at 5.25” and a dome tweeter driven by a 120-watt amplifier and a round open structure. At a height of over 20” and 9.8” wide this is one large speaker. It weighs in a over 10 lbs. and will stay where is placed. The battery has a long 10-hour span for any activity on the run. Connectivity is covered through Bluetooth, USB, and mini jack AUX input. The XBoom comes with the unit itself, a power cord and instructions. When setting up the XBoom for the first time you are instructed to download the XBoom app to your mobile device. I have an iPhone, so I when to the app store and downloaded it from there. Once you have done that you just follow the prompts on the app to set up the XBoom. The app has many features to customize the sound, the Mood light, play music, change volume, and even use a DJ mode. The app provides the remaining charge percentage left and the ability to turn on and off the XBoom. The EQ provides you with several preselected settings that include Standard, Bass Blast, Pop, Classic, Rock, jazz, Outdoor, and Custom. Each EQ setting changes the tone to suit the type of music. Outdoor EQ seems to boost the midrange for better clarity outside. The Mood lighting feature has three settings, Ambient, Nature, and Party. The first two have light colors that are used to reflect your mood by using colors that light up by the XBoom. The Party uses bright flashing colors to reflect the party atmosphere. When using Ambient for example, there are Refreshing mornings which has a brighter white light. The Warm Afternoon show a warm orange light to represent the sun, and Comfort of a Cozy Night has a darker orange light to reflect the sunset. There is also an off for the Mood Lighting, so no light is displayed by the XBoom. The sound quality is very good and with the omni directional design the music projects in all directions. If I walk around the speaker the sound doesn’t change and the sound is full and clean. On the bottom side of the XBoom is an access panel that is covered by a rubberized plastic cover. Behind is the reset for the unit, USB port for thumb drives or iPhone cords to play music directly and charge at the same time, and an AUX mini jack input. The XBoom 360° is a must for outdoor or indoor parties to play your favorite music or to just listen to music with the Mood lighting and relax. The long battery span is a plus. This is a strong portable Bluetooth unit.

This thing is COOL
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have just found my new favorite party speaker. The LG XBOOM 360 is just made for parties. It’s 21 inches high and SOLID. No ‘overserved’ guest it going to knock it over. The sound is amazing. It truly is non directional with full frequency response. Place it anywhere, there’s no way to point it. With other speakers, your music EQ changes as you move around the room or the outdoor space. Not with the XBOOM. Its woofer gives you great bass, perfect for parties and let’s talk about the light show. You can set its lights for just ‘high’ or ‘low” or put it In Party Mode” and it goes crazy, flashing different colors in beat with the music. The free phone app is great with this. At one point I was listening and seeing a light elsewhere blinking in time with the bass. I thought I was crazy until I realized it was the ‘flashlight’ on my phone blinking in time with the music. The app also has a “DJ screen where you can perform DJ tricks with the music. Adding ‘echo’ or phasing effects, ‘drumming’ with the music and it has a ‘scratch wheel’ for the DJ scratching effects, and of course the expected EQ functions with several pre-set modes or customize it just the way you like. Do not forget to download the LG XBOOM app! I mentioned that the speaker is heavy, around 13 pounds, but it’s very easy to carry around, If you look at the picture it has a very large rounded metal handle on its top. Just plop It down anywhere. I’ve only used it with my phone using Bluetooth in which in connected instantly with no problem, but it also will play songs from a USB stick and has a connection for a music source using standard stereo plugs and cords. Battery life is supposed to be 10 hours, for me, it ran for over 8, still enough for a great party. The only ‘cons’ I can think of are that nowhere in any LG literature did it say anything about the speaker being waterproof or even water resistant at all. Since I’d probably only use the speaker for outdoor gatherings which it is GREAT for, that might be a problem with an impending rainstorm. Also, I can’t find any capability for the unit to be used with another one for create actual discrete stereo sound. The instructions talk about pairing a second speaker with this one, but only that you’d increase the sound level at your location, not that you’d get actual stereo. Bottom line, this attractive speaker would be a perfect addition to your party. Just add guests.

Fun and good sounding speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this item today to test thought the tech insider network. I have many Bluetooth speakers, but nothing like this. This size of this is knee high (I'm 5'9") and takes a base of 10 inches or so diameter. It is hefty in weight, and really is meant to stay on the ground but in the solid middle of a table would do ok. Connection was quick, no issues pairing with my s20 note ultra or my wife's 11pro. The lg xboom app is available on both Apple and Android stores. There is a private and party mode on this that let's multiple devices play music, and can you can make a Playlist within the app of the music you have stored on your phone. There is also a "twin" mode that you could synch this with another xboom and have "stereo" sound. The 360 sound design on this I find flawless, good clarity at any angle around it, multiple eq settings to find the punch of bass or tone of vocals to your liking. The app has multiple ways to customize the color stobe pattern and ambient light brightness or pattern or color you want, or you can have none at all. There is a USB and aux input on this also, so you can connect items that way. The sound level this can put out is pretty impressive, very PA like levels. The music fades between selections if you want it to, and as I switched between apps and songs it also did. There is a fun DJ mode that has 3 custom buttons that you can record samples on, a scratch table, and 6 other built in sounds. There are also fade and synch and a few other effects that you can use for music and effects. I'm a bit older than the demographic that may use that feature more, but if I were in my teens, 20's again, my friends and I would have messed with this until the early morning hours. We are long past that and happy to just have music playing. The charged battery claims up to 10 hours, and I believe that. I have had it run 2 to 3 hours at a time, but generally charge it between uses. I am impressed by the sound of this, clear, crisp, from rock to Bach, this has the sound covered. If you want a large PA sound output like Bluetooth speaker that us really portable, this has you covered, and I feel the price is not unheard of for the quality of build and feel/sound of this. I would reccomend this to my family and friends

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's just okay, I like the 360 degree sound, but the sound is not very good, not for listening to music or a movie. I really want to like it, the lighting is gimicky does't shine, I guess maybe at a price point of $150.00 maybe, but I'm going to return it..

A Great Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am writing this review for the LG XBoom 360 Portable Bluetooth Omnidirectional Speaker. The very first thing I noticed was the size of the speaker. Yes, I had read over all the specs before ordering it, but in my mind I just didn't expect it to be so large. It stands a little over 20 inches tall and is almost 10 inches wide at its widest point. I was also surprised, pleased and quite reassured at its weight. As I gave it an initial glance over, I noticed at how well it was put together. The speaker is put together extremely well. The control buttons are meshed into a rubber mat located at the top of the speaker. To top it off, there is a satin nickel-finished handle on the top to carry it around. The handle is well-secured, with absolutely no wobble or wiggle. So, with the outside as well-crafted as it is, along with the weight of the speaker, I felt quite sure I was in possession of a very high-quality portable speaker. Per the instructions, I attached the power cord, plugged it in, and let it charge all night before using. The literature states it takes about five hours to fully charge. In the meantime I downloaded the LG XBOOM app so that I would be ready to go as soon as it was charged up. The next morning, after making sure it was fully charged, I followed the very easy-to-follow instructions to pair the speaker with my phone, and to set up the app. In less than five minutes I was ready to test it out. I turned it off, and then turned it back on. Once I pushed the power button, the speaker went through its startup routine. It plays a very short jingle that let me know it had successfully paired with my phone. I opened the app and began to explore its many functions. From the initial screen I noticed there is a power button on the app that allows the user to power the speaker on remotely and power it off. There is a battery charge indicator showing the current power level of the battery. I noticed I was able to choose which method I want to use to connect to the speaker...either bluetooth, USB or AUX. There is a volume control slide, and below that is the control for indoor use or outdoor use. And below that is the main app equalizer that lets you choose from seven presets, and also an option to customize the settings to the user's preferences with five separate frequencies that can be manipulated. The app also allows users to control the mood lighting with three presets, and the ability to create however you wish, including color and brightness. There is almost an infinite array of user choices, and is one of the neatest features of this speaker. In addition the app allows users to control power management settings, beep sound, auto power on, and an auto power management option. So, as you can see, the app is amazingly inclusive of many outstanding options and abilities to make the speaker as user-defined as possible. But what about the sound? This is where the rubber meets the road, so to speak. The quality and clarity of the speaker is impeccable. The highs are pin-prick sharp, and the mids and bass are hard-hitting as well. One thing I discovered is that in conjunction with the app's equalizer, I am able to use the Dolby equalizer on my laptop to fine-tune the output even further. AMAZING! I turned the speaker up to full volume, and noticed very little, if any distortion. This was apparent for all the presets on the app equalizer options. And now for the Outdoor mode. The LG XBOOM 360 far out-performs any of my current and previous portable speakers. I live on over three acres, and no matter where I am on my property, I am able to easily hear the speaker. Just like it is indoors, the sound is clear and flawless. As I walked around it, I noticed that it is indeed a true 360 degree omnidirectional speaker. The sound does not vary. I am surprisingly pleased at how much I have already come to love this speaker. It is a perfect addition to my audio lifestyle. There is, however, one aspect of the LG speaker that almost moved me to give it a four-star rating. But after considering the niche in which portable speakers are housed, I had to remind myself that there is a great gulf fixed between portable speakers and stationary speakers. I simply felt the maximum volume was not as great as I would have liked, but then, I have yet to find a truly portable speaker that can match the output of stationary speakers. So, feeling quite pleased and relieved, I energetically gave the LG XBOOM 360 Portable Omnidirectional speaker FIVE STARS. For anyone, including my friends and family, looking for an extraordinary portable speaker, THIS IS THE ONE. I absolutely recommend it. Thanks LG for another great product!

The Ultimate Lifestyle speaker.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This bluetooth speaker is indeed an enigma of sorts. The sound stage this creates is not a hi-fi, audiofile's dream, however what this is to me, is a great all around speaker for getting music in areas where you cannot get music. Let me say that the app for android is great. I mean the ease of use, the ability to customize the EQ is cream on the crop. Yes there are EQ presets, but I personally like to tweak the output depending on the volume level. Also, the volume completely fills out almost every room we throw at it. Anywhere you want music, it can reach pretty well! Also with the app, you can control the lights on the speaker. You can go all party lights to a tranquil environment. Now you have the speaker itself. Under the handy dandy carrying bar, you can find the buttons that you can control on board. So you do not have to be tied to an app to control the speaker, you have the top of the speaker. There are also an AUX or 3.5 jack to plug in, to use the speaker as you wish. The footprint of the speaker is small compared to the others I have tried. However, the magic here is the portability. This speaker has an average 10 hour playback, depending of course, the volume and amount of lights used while playing music on your speaker. The colors this comes in can melt into your decor, without an issue. Wherever I put mine, it fits and looks good and also more importantly sounds good. To go about how this sounds, it is no where bass heavy, but also not tinny which is awesome. It has a very well done sound stage where you can play your stuff at a level that you do not need to pump up the volume to enjoy. By no means we cannot pump it up, you definitely can. The bass does not meddle at high volumes either. It's a great lifestlye speaker. Especially the 360 aspect is terrific. There is no bad angle because there is no way to point it. You just set it and forget it. And getting back to the app, you can have DJ effects and also let other phones play their music from their device through the app. Very cool in my opinion. For the price, this is an amazing speaker. I am looking to use this for my Halloween decoration set up and being the battery of about 10 hours, it's more than enough that I would need. I recommend this completely for a casual listener.

Crisp, Thumpy and a lot of fun!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG XBOOM 360 portable speaker is by far the best sounding portable speaker I have ever owned. Grading it on that scale it shines, it is however a bit on the large and heavy side compared to any other portable speaker I have ever tried. I only say this because my other speakers are 100% portable as in something that is easy to travel with anywhere. This one is a bit more of a commitment. You can’t just toss it in a backpack with a lot of other stuff and head out. Enough of that, on to the fun stuff. This speaker sounds excellent. The bass has some thump to it. Not window rattling or police summoning but very solid. The highs are crisp and clear as are the vocals it produces. The speaker is true 360 degree Omni-directional. The sound is amazingly consistent as you move around the speaker. I have been around a couple of other speakers that are a 360 experience, but this one is the best I have heard. There is an aux in jack that can be used with a mic or guitar which is fun. Connecting it via Bluetooth to a phone is super quick and easy. The light is actually pretty cool, I was a bit skeptical at first. The app will actually get some use from me. It’s just fun as there are a lot of options for light effects. Speaking of the app, there is an equalizer with various presets or you can adjust it manually. It also offers a DJ mode for mixing and various sound effects; though this feature wasn’t my cup of tea I can see others having a lot of fun with it. The unit itself feels sturdy and well built. The battery seems a bit slow to charge up but it has a really good life. I had it going for hours at a high volume and it performed great. The handle is sturdy and smooth. For what it is, I love this speaker. Not quite high end home studio quality, but really great for a portable speaker. I don’t usually say these sorts of things, but with all the fun and cool lighting options I think I’ll enjoy its looks as much as the sound! All in all this is a wonderful device. Well built with great performance and some fun bells and whistles. If I knew someone looking for a portable speaker in this price range I would absolutely recommend this to a friend.

Party Speaker!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG XBOOM 360 is a great Bluetooth speaker for bringing music to fill your room. When I first saw the picture of I thought it was going to be about the same size as other portable Bluetooth speakers, but this one is in a class by itself. At 20 inches tall and 10 inches in diameter it is much bigger than most, and sounds like it! The XBOOM is touted as having omnidirectional sound. Sound emanates evenly from all sides of the speaker because of the up-firing driver and dispersion cone arrangement. Place the speaker in the middle of the listening area to fill the room with great music. The speaker also has built in lighting which can be set to various patterns and hues to set the mood of your gathering. The lighting can be switched through a couple simple modes using a button on top of the speaker, or many more options are available via the XBOOM app for iOS/Android. Additionally, the app can be used to control volume/play/pause functions and offers some DJ features if you enjoy those. Music can be played via Bluetooth, USB, or Aux input. and sound quality is excellent. The unit can be powered from a standard 120V wall outlet, but also has a battery that boasts up to 10 hours life if you want to use it off the grid. I've had several Bluetooth speakers, and for a gathering of friends, or just listening by myself, this on is my favorite.

Round out your audio with the LG - XBOOM 360
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG XBoom 360 is a large (about 20" tall and almost 13lbs), wireless (10 hr. Play time), omnidirectional, modern and great looking portable speaker for parties or just relaxing around the home. It has a comfortable yet stylish handle for carrying. It’s capable of very strong LOUD yet balanced audio that sounds great. In addition it includes a tailorable, RGB LED, light show using the functional and easy to use LG XBoom smartphone app that has DJ Effects. It features an up-firing sub-woofer for strong, clean bass. It's controls for power, playback, lighting, and connectivity are on the upper surface and are well marked and functional. The connectivity is extremely good, in addition to low power consumption Bluetooth (4.0?), at the bottom of the speaker is a rubber flap that hides a USB-A thumb drive port for MP3 and WMA files, a 3.5mm audio input aux jack for analog sources, a reset button, and a pairing button for combining multiple LG wireless speakers. It does not have an IPX rating so I would be careful using it around water sources or in the rain (keep it covered?).

In a word, “INCREDIBLE”
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.UNBOXING, AND INITIAL IMPRESSIONS: I’ll be honest…the box is ‘imposing’, and heavy. I understand DJ-type Bluetooth speakers being this large & heavy, but not one for just playing music (and maybe watching movies). However, once you know more about it, you quickly understand ‘why’. And, as soon as I removed it from the box, I immediately began to understand. But, more on that, later. Placing a carrying handle on the top isn’t just because it’s large & heavy…it also makes it *look* better…and, if you wanted to suspend one (or two, or four) of these, it’s the perfect way to do so. Why would someone want to suspend any of these? More on that, (yes) later. To say I was, at this point, “impressed”, would be an understatement. At the same time, as impressed as I was, it had a lot to “accomplish” to earn my ‘approval’. SETUP: Basic setup is no different than pairing any other Bluetooth device, so I probably don’t need to say anything further. If you’ve paired a headset, you can just as easily pair this. To gain full use of all features/functions, you need to download/install the XBOOM app (available for Android & iOS). While you can, technically, download/install the app before pairing the speaker, I’d probably suggest pairing first…once paired, the app instantly connects, and all functions/features are available. SOUND QUALITY: As the title of my review states, this thing is “incredible”. I don’t say that about many things…so, by me having said that, it should tell you something. Earlier, I mentioned about how large & heavy it is, and I said you’d understand ‘why’ later. That time is now – it contains a 120W amplifier. While most other Bluetooth speakers contains amps below 50W…and most are probably below 30W…this thing is a ‘powerhouse’. Even better, the sound is crisp & clear. Depending on the EQ setting, it can also produce booming (but not ‘distorted’) bass. You can use your music player’s EQ, or the EQ settings controllable through the app…but, do NOT use both (the manual even states this). In initial testing, I tried a variety of music genres, from rock to classical, from jazz to celtic, from new age to blues…and everything sounded great. THE APP: LG’s XBOOM app is what makes the speaker shine (figuratively, and literally) even more. Starting with the ‘figuratively’ part, in addition to the aforementioned EQ, the app also contains four “effects”, each utilizing a sliding ‘scale’ for effect intensity. The effects are quite good (better than I expected, and just as good as I had hoped). The only ‘down’ side (and, I’ll admit, it’s a fairly minor one) is that you can only use one effect at a time. Getting to the ‘literal’ side of it “shining”, the speaker also contains multi-colored LEDs. The most basic if the speaker’s lighting can be controlled via the center button on the speaker…but, use the app, and you quickly discover a multitude of lighting functions/effects, including one that flashes, and changes colors, in beat to the music. Earlier, I mentioned something about suspending the speaker (or, to be more accurate, 2-4 of them. Imagine four of these in a medium-sized room, suspended approximately 6-7 feet above the floor, with one in each corner, and the LEDs set to flash with the beat. I don’t think I need to say anything further, as anyone reading this can figure out the rest. FINAL VERDICT: My review took longer (ok, much longer) than any other TIN member’s review. Why? Because I loaned the XBOOM to my next door neighbor, as he was having a small house party this past weekend, and he wanted to borrow it. I figured, “Why not.” I mean, talk about an opportunity to REALLY test the speaker. In short, everyone was impressed – the sound quality, the lighting effects, the ‘other’ effects…and, the fact that no one could tell from what direction the music was coming from. THAT’S why LG calls it a 360-degree speaker. Honestly, I could keep writing more. The fact that I’m already planning on purchasing a second should tell you all you need to know. Do I recommend it? Well, duh!!!

360 audio is key

You can have two phones connected to the speaker at once which makes it easy to divvy up the DJ responsibilities, and the 360 audio dispersal along with the mood lighting make for a good time. You can connect to this speaker via Bluetooth, aux, or usb. The speaker lasted me about 8 hours even though it is supposed to last up to 10 hours, however I did have the speaker going pretty loud. The best part about the LG XBOOM is the 360 audio dispersal so it doesn’t need to be pointed in any single direction. In addition, the nice handle at the top makes it easy to transport. The downside of the speaker is that it is not water resistant, therefore you may want to be careful using it outdoors. Besides that, the XBOOM 360 provides great sound, bass, mood lighting, and you can place it anywhere knowing it’ll disperse the sound evenly in all directions. I think people don’t realize how great the 360 sound dispersal is until they experience it.

Good sound, lousy technology/outdated

BUT - the app is weak at best, you must turn on the speaker every time, and then pair with your iPhone - the mobile app only turns the speaker off. The app is the worst part - you can't pair 2 units to create stereo like Bose or UE Megaboom, the music interface assumes only songs - so other than setting the EQ and lighting, I use it for streaming SiriusXM or Amazon Music and the playlists on my phone. I'll keep it for the sound and lighting for the pool in the summertime, otherwise I'd return it. Shame - good concept but based on outdated technology. Doubt the app will be updated to be like Bose - a serious miss to that for $400 you can't create true stereo like my Bose Revolve units and that app turns the speakers ON. The LG sponsored You Tube video is misleading - you cannot pair 2 units into stereo as the person claims.
