Overall a good portable Bluetooth speaker.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This speaker is compact and easy to carry. Setup was quick and took less than two minutes. As fast as your device can find it is as soon as you can be listening to music. If you download the Music Flow Bluetooth app you can control the volume, "Clear Vocal" and "Enhanced Bass" as well as the lights. You can also customize playlists with the app, or do them independently with your standard music apps on your device. Due to its compact size, full volume is a bit limited and the bass can become a bit distorted on bass heavy songs. This probably won't be your best bet for loud parties. However, for sitting outside on the porch or working in the garage it's perfect. It does have the ability to link a second speaker, which could be nice for larger area coverage. As far as the lights, you can control color scheme and different presets ("Party", "Water", "Forest", or "My style" as well as completely off). Lights off will of course use less battery power. Although I haven't yet full drained the battery, last night my wife was playing music through it with her phone while I was controlling the lights with my phone. This resulted in draining the battery from 100% to 90% in about 15 minutes. However, it was performing a lot of functions at once. Playing music, adjusting lights, etc. If you just set a playlist and your lighting to where you want it the battery life would be improved. My one gripe is that if you switch between the EQ settings ("Clear Vocal" and/or "Enhanced Bass"), the music cuts out completely to change the settings. This is a minor annoyance that doesn't detract from it. It's a setting that once you find what works for you, you will probably never touch it again. Overall, a good speaker for what it is. However, if you're looking for a loud speaker for the pool, this probably won't be a good fit for you. Then again, that's not really what this speaker is designed for.

Very Good Backyard Speaker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LG PK 7 is a really good speaker with clear sound and easy operation. The speaker is pretty sturdy with some heft to it. You have to keep that into consideration when lugging it around or where you decide to place it. The handles built in protect from any bangs, except around the passive radiators on the sides, which kind of concerns me over longevity. Only time will tell I guess. The speaker is water resistant (didn't test) with a cover on the rear where the power connection, audio input and reset button is. The speaker has two mid drivers along with two tweeters on the front, along with the LED party lights. Not too sure about the lights, so I turned them off. It has a bass boost as well as a clear voice mode, that are tuned by Meridian. The PK7 also has an Android App that can be used to operate different functions on the speaker. Overall this is a really good speaker that can easily fill a room or yard with sound. There are many Bluetooth speakers in this price range, but this should be at the top of your list! Good shopping!

Works Well with Android App
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pairing to my LG G6 phone was a piece of cake. Then I could customize the behavior with their Music Flow app. What behavior? One feature it has is flashing lights to the music. My pre-teen son loves the flashing lights to the beat of the music, I find it distracting. I tested sound quality with some Imagine Dragons songs. Heavy bass came across well, especially when the Enhanced Bass filter was enabled. You can also enable the Clear Voice filter for phone calls. I've heard better quality for both but at a higher price point. As long as your not annoying the neighbors loud, you should be happy with the sound quality. I was impressed with the battery life, though at six pounds+ I can better understand why. Do you need more than 20 hours of batter life? For something like a weekend camping where you're away from a plug, sure. My son loves the speaker. I'm just at the point of sounds like many of the other speakers I've tried out. Adequate, yes, but nothing spectacular where I'd run out and get a second, with one exception. If you do have a second, you can pair them up to get true stereo sound. Positioned properly, that feature sounds nice, though untested.

Might be what you're looking for...but not me.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If there are two products that I have more of than anything else, it's headphones and speakers. I love listening to music, watching movies or shows online, and the better the audio experience, the better the immersive nature of whatever I'm taking in at the time. Personal audio, as I've said before, is a market that is extremely flooded with products right now and it's becoming more and more difficult to distinguish between inherently "good" and "bad" products. But that's not necessarily a bad thing; at mostly every budget there are products that perform admirably, this thanks to just how flooded the market is. We've all walked up and down the aisles at Best Buy and looked at the numerous Bluetooth speaker options, becoming familiar with brands like Bose, Harmon Kardon, UE, JBL and Marshall, but perhaps one of the brands we're not so familiar with when it comes to portable Bluetooth speakers is LG. LG, a maker of TVs, smartphones, computer monitors, laptops; oh, and washers, stoves and refrigerators--they also have a portable speaker option. It's no surprise, in some sense, that a maker of higher-end speaker bars would release a product like the PK7, its largest of three options in the PK series. It has been some time since I've tried out a new large speaker, although probably my most recent was a Samsung soundbar that has been a phenomenal addition to my entertainment setup. Nevertheless, I've become so familiar with small portable speakers that I often forget just how heavy speakers can be--and at 6.3 pounds, the PK7 is a beast of a speaker (by weight) in a relatively small package. From a design perspective, there's nothing all that exciting when you take the PK7 out of the box. It is a front-facing speaker only, with no 360-degree sound; although I do admit that it probably serves this speaker better that it is not. With two large "handles" on the front (only one of which is intended as a handle), the front of the speaker is slightly elevated which points the speaker at an upward angle, as if it were intended to sit on a short shelf or table. The all-black plastic shell surrounds the speaker unit itself, also completely black and a mix of metal and plastic. Four rubber feet are on the bottom of the speaker, indicating that there is only one correct way to place this speaker on a surface, and a row of controls along the top give you access to play/pause, volume up/down, power, Bluetooth and function buttons. The back of the speaker has a small door, sealed with a rubber gasket, under which the DC in, auxiliary port, reset button and Dual Play button (which allows you to pair two PK7 speakers for stereo sound). Along each side of the speaker is a passive radiator that contributes to the speaker's bass performance. Right off the bat, I was pleased to find such a large and allegedly powerful speaker that ran on a battery promising 22 hours of battery life (individual results may vary); it's 10,400 mAh battery being charged through a standard DC adapter that comes in the box. It is strange to me that this speaker doesn't support any USB input (including power, which is pretty much a standard for Bluetooth speakers), but nevertheless, a 20+ hour battery on a large speaker is nothing to get upset about regardless of how it is charged. The speaker package itself includes the two passive radiators mentioned above along with two tweeters, which combine to provide a relatively well-rounded audio profile. Naturally flat, there isn't much excitement to the audio performance straight out of the box. LG provides dedicated buttons on the top of the speaker to enable/disable both "Clear Vocal" and "Enhanced Bass" settings, and after listening to anything with both features enabled I'm not sure why anyone would do anything but always leave them on. With both Clear Vocal and Enhanced Bass enabled, the sound profile turns into something a little more exciting. Vocals come through, well, very clear and almost raw--making this a great product for indie and singer/songwriter music that doesn't have a lot of instrumental depth. For most music, the mids come through clearly as well, with a decent amount of separation between instrumentation. Highs are also clear and crisp, with great separation from the lows and mids. And, the lows come through beautifully with the help of the dual passive radiators on the sides of the speakers. From a volume perspective, this speaker can get pretty loud, although I'm not sure it would perform well in large open spaces indoors or well in your backyard barbeque if your yard is too big. While it appears to be marketed as a product intended for larger audiences, especially with the handle design (eat your heart out, boombox), it's more appropriate to think of this speaker as something you'd take to your local park for a quick game of 3-on-3 basketball, or to stash it on a table near your grill for entertainment while you prepare for a weekend cookout. This is not a speaker you're going to rely on for the next rave in your backyard. And speaking of raves, if you happen to throw one in your living room, the PK7 comes with all the onboard lighting you need to ensure your guests have a great time… In all seriousness, this is another speaker with onboard lighting, which is a phenomenon I'm not entirely sure I understand. With the lights on, it appears as if the speaker has eyes staring deeply into your soul, and they have a few different functions during music playback as well ("Party," "Water" and "Forest"). I definitely see a difference in the light behavior between each setting, but I certainly don't understand the naming convention. So the speaker sounds pretty good, has lights that you can thankfully disable, and seemingly good battery life…but it's not all sunshine and rainbows. For starters, the fact that this is a single-direction, forward-facing speaker with bass amplification on the side makes for awkward positioning to get the most out of your sound. Other Bluetooth speakers sometimes put bass amplification on the back of the speaker, making it ideally placed on a table near a wall, while others (and the PK7 could definitely get away with it since the bottom of the speaker unit is raised) put it on the bottom of the speaker to take advantage of downward reflection. Because the PK7 has passive radiators on the side, it makes an attempt at providing full space-filling sound, but given it doesn't perform all that well in open areas, this is only accomplished if the speaker is placed in a corner of a room. Admittedly, that's a perfectly acceptable placement of a speaker, but not necessarily a convenient one for all people. And, while the sound is largely good and provides a decent experience, at higher volumes you can hear a slight hiss during certain types of music. I found this mostly in tracks highlighting vocals and large unison sections of instrumental music. This isn't a deal breaker by any means and could be specific to my unit, as it was harder to notice in non-controlled audio environments. The one thing that often times saves an audio product from a total "thumbs down" review from me is its companion app, especially if that app allows for adjustment to the sound profile in any way. I was annoyed to find out that the companion app for the PK7 was Android only, but I did have an Android phone around for testing purposes so downloaded the app. It's terrible. There is no adjustment that can be made to the sound at all, aside from enabling or disabling the functions that have dedicated buttons on the speaker itself. And (thank goodness), you can also create a custom lighting animation for the speaker within the less-than-good companion app. That really saves the day, because "Forest" and "Water" just weren't doing it for me. Can we talk about the lights, though? Why? Why is this a thing? I really don't get it. If nothing else, it would be nice if the app would let you set the light default to off when the speaker is powered on, but even that isn't possible…every time I turn the speaker on, I have to cycle through the options with the physical buttons on the speaker to make the lights go away, otherwise, it's just more battery wasted. Sony, for instance, recently released the SRS-XB31 Bluetooth speaker, which also has lights, but it has a pretty good companion app and the ability to save settings to the speaker and clear out defaults. So, the PK7 sounds good enough for what it is. I'm not writing home about it, and I'm certainly not going to recommend paying $250 for it. If you get it on sale (at the time of writing this review I see it for $179, which is a pretty good price for what you're getting), it's worth considering if you're looking for a speaker that does a fine job filling a room or two with sound. You're not going to be buying this when you DJ your kid's graduation party, but it's also not a useless piece of tech. At around 25% off, it's a better value than a smaller $200 Bose speaker, even given Bose's better sound performance (I continue to use my several-year-old SoundLink Mini, which is one of the best speakers I've used), and the PK7's onboard battery gives you enough playback to get through a week's worth of runs on your treadmill. But at the full retail price of $250, I'd pass on this one and go instead with one of the many other manufacturers in the personal audio market.

Best Speaker I have used so far
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just got mine from FredEx after 2 days of them missing my house or whatever and couldn't wait to finally get my hands on this. I was in the market for a speaker anyways and I got a chance to get a unit to review ( such nice timing lol). Got one from BestBuy for an unbiased review. I love listening to music and while I am a bit picky with headphones and want better SQ I am not so much with speakers. As long as the treble isn't harsh and the mids are recessed so far back you can't find them along with pumping bass the speakers will do the job good enough for me. I never heard of Meridian Audio technology before and never thought of using or buying LG speakers since they aren't that known in the portable Bluetooth speaker business. People have complained about the AC adapter which doesn't use USB C or the typical Micro USB like others but considering the size I don't think its an issue since the AC adapter would charge a lot faster I believe. The speaker has 2 passive radiators on the side for that pumping bass and two tweeters for the highs. Overall I love the sound of these and much better then the ones I had from Sony and Bose IMHO.

A little thumping for my shed.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a bluetooth speaker that had a little more oomph for my use in my shed. This one fills my 12’ x 16’ shed with good sound. Obviously, it’s no substitute for larger systems but it suits what I’m looking for. It’s nice to be able to enhance voice and/or bass to your choice. When listening to podcasts, it’s good to enhance the vocal. The color display is a nice feature but since I’m not throwing parties, it’s unnecessary. In this day and age, you’d think it would be rechargeable with USB-C. Instead it uses an old fashion power brick. Sony makes it sound like there’s an app, but it’s only good for Google it appears. I downloaded the app on my iPhone but it failed to connect after several attempts. That’s just an issue with the app, the connectivity to my phone is solid. I’m thinking to get a second one and pair it to give a little more oomph overall. We’ll see.

Great sound and battery life, looks great too!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a few BT speakers and I'd have to say this is the best sound I've heard in a while. The physical speaker size is a bit larger than my Sony SRS, but it is easy to pack and carry. Battery life is awesome and I had no issues with drain down while not in use.

I Love This Thing
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I call the LG a thing with deference and love, its a beast! The only way the LG is portable is if there's an outlet near by. I've used this to rock out in the shower, while detailing my car and at a gathering on my patio. Great performance and seamless Bluetooth pairing. Is this as excellent as my Marantz / Definitive Technology rig? Let's not be silly, but the bass hits hard and the sound is clear and rich. It's head and shoulders above other speakers in its class. The light show is a nice touch, and the unit is solid and well made. Getcha one and have some fun!!

Nice sound, unfortunately not loud enough.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got the speaker on sale for $99, so I can’t complain, but at the retail price I wouldn’t be happy for one reason. The one reason being that the MAX VOLUME is not loud enough! The sound is good out of the speaker, decent form factor, seems decently built but just needs to have a louder max volume. LG please release some update maybe through the app to adjust this and it’d be a really great speaker. I’d recommend at $99 current price but probably not at $150 or above.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve owned many many Bluetooth speakers. I’d say this one, for its sound is top 5. Not amazing but definitely good. Love the sound, lights and battery life. I do wish there was some more bass though. Some other downsides with this speaker are the sound effect options, voice and deep bass. Without them on it sounds like crap. But this is the case with most speakers. All in all it is a solid Bluetooth speaker. I strongly recommend that with this or any other speaker that you listen to it in your local Best Buy. Everyone’s ear is different and only you can decide what is good for you. You can’t go wrong with this speaker though. It is really great.

Excellent for a reduced price, but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review....if you're in a relatively noisy environment, the maximum volume might be disappointing. This is the first speaker of this type I have tested. I listen to downloaded music from my Android through the Bluetooth connection and put on the dashboard (against the windshield facing me) of the box truck on deliveries. Because of the typical engine, wind, and other noises, the maximum volume seems a bit low, especially if you listen to relatively softer music. On the plus side, if you're in a low to mid level noise environment, the dual sub-woofers and dual tweeters are quite impressive. The handles on it make it very easy for transport and are quite secure. The lights on it can match the beat of the music and have other small options, but because of the design, not really "Lets get the party started" quality. It charges quickly, especially for the size of the non-removable battery it has. It pairs up and connects VERY quickly. As you may have seen in other reviews, pairing and connecting is next to perfect. As soon as I turn it on, with my phones Bluetooth turned on it being already paired, it connects upon power up. Also, it works quite well if you use it for a speakerphone feature during calls, even in a noisy environment, including mine as stated above. The conversations were well received on both ends. There is an app available to configure the speaker called Music Flow Bluetooth that I found works for the most part. The proprietary charging connection on the speaker makes it impossible to charge it from your cars power without additional accessories such as a low level power inverter.

Big, Black and Hefty... and Impressive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's big. It is "portable" but it is not small. It is not light either. It's super heavy. But, in all its heaviness, it is easy to hold. I am impressed with the sound. Confession, this is my second Bluetooth speaker ever, and the first one was one that I bought for someone as a gift; it was small and sounded as expected. So I am not a portable Bluetooth speaker connoisseur. The speaker comes with a DC connector and a power block, and must be plugged into an outlet to charge it. It can take a long time to fully charge. The light indicator will let you know when it is done. I paired the speaker with my phone and then with my ipod touch (separately). Both paired immediately. Simple. An indicator tells you that you're connected. I played rap and r&b. The music sounded good and gave nice bass. I was impressed. Just keep "Clear Vocal" and "Enhanced Bass" on. There was a clear difference. The lights. I like the lights. I am a light-liker. The lights beat with the beat of the music. You can keep the lights so they loop through all the colors (4 colors) continuously; or you can put it on one color only; or you can turn it off. YOU CAN DO THIS FROM THE SPEAKER. You do not need the app for this. The volume was good for me. You can control volume on your Bluetooth device or on the speaker. You can connect a second speaker (either PK7 or PK5) to this one for dual speakers (or stereo sound). You can also connect 2 Bluetooth devices simultaneously. The LG Music Bluetooth App is almost unnecessary, but it is meant to be used with all your LG speaker type devices. It does nothing special, so... You don't need it to play and control your music. This is a good speaker and I would definitely recommend it. By the way, it boasts 22 hours of playtime off of a full charge. But in the manual, it blatantly says that the the amount of playtime is effected by volume level and the lights in the front of the unit. Enjoy. Peace.

Pool Party Fun
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My previous portable BT speaker just bit the dust, which is a shame because my favorite place to use it was by the pool. However, it was never loud enough to hear if one was not close enough (i.e. at the other side of the pool). In comes the PK7. Not only does it provide the OOMPH. It also provides clarity at even the louder levels. As a note, I didn't turn it all the way up, as I didn't want to anger the neighbors. This is the ultimate party BT speaker. The neon lights which interact with the music are another big plus. Especially at dusk, or at night. Though one can clearly see them during the day as well, it's just a lot more fun at night :) The controls are very intuitive, and easy to use. There is an input on the back for plugging in a portable device. This, also is where the power port for charging resides. Quite honestly, it didn't take a whole lot of time to charge it for first use, so it must have already had a fairly decent charge from the factory, who claim a fully charged battery can last 20+ hours. We will see! Back to clarity, the PK7 offers "Meridian Sound" and lets you enhance bass or voice (which to me sounds like a tweak to the higher end/treble). Both (to me at least) add an extra dimension to any music you can throw at it. I like to consider myself an audiophile, and so far I cannot find anything to fault the PK7. Easy controls, great sound, entertaining lights, LOUD, and did I mention great sound? :) If you are in the market for a very well constructed, durable and high end BT speaker - you would do very well in selecting this model. GO FOR IT!

A decent speaker, but with some flaws
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have mixed feelings about this speaker. There are things I like and things I do not like. First of all, there is the build quality. I really like that aspect of the speaker's design. It feels very solid, has a nice weight to it, and it is also water/dust resistant. It also has a handle built right onto the frame that feels sturdy enough to carry the speaker. The LED lights are a cool feature at night as they pulse along with the music. You can also edit the colors with a free app installed on your phone. This speaker has Meridian Audio Technology and with that being said, the sound is very nice. My disappointment comes with the volume. A speaker of this size and quality should put out a lot more volume than it does. With it turned up as loud as it can go, it still did not compete with other speakers I already own. The speaker is also advertised as having up to 22 hours of battery life. With the volume up all the way and the LED lights on, it doesn't even come close. After reading the fine print in the manual, the "22 hours" of battery life is only achievable with the volume at 50%. With this speaker, I could barely hear my music at 50% volume. The bass boost and clear vocal settings do seem to enhance the audio. It also accepts voice commands and allows you to talk on the phone through the speaker. The speaker also is advertised as being able to link up with another speaker, but I have not tested this feature. All in all, it is a decent speaker. I was just disappointed with the volume and battery life.

moderately entertaining
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a standalone bluetooth speaker, there is nothing in particular to recommend this product. While it supposedly has an "enhanced bass" setting, I found the quality of its low end sound to be much worse than that of cheaper and smaller speakers. Don't count on this to be the center of your next party. The synchronized light effects are fairly entertaining, but unless you have an android phone, you can't use the app to tailor them. There is an app available for iPhones, but it doesn't work with this speaker, and it has very poor ratings for the speakers it does connect to. On the plus side, I like the railings that stick out in front of the grill. They're convenient to use as a handle, and they somewhat protect the speaker in less forgiving environments. When detached from the power source and running on its internal battery, there is a cover to protect the ports on the backside, so I would feel comfortable using this in dusty or wet environments. For my own personal use, I like this as a speaker to keep on in the background at work.
