    Flip 2 a Flop

My mom has been using the Jitterbug flip phone for years with a few bumps along the way. The reason for the style of phone for her, is that she is now legally blind. The feature of being able to speak a name after the beep when you open, the phone worked very well for her. However, with the recent change to having to use Alexa with the phone has been a disaster! we spent hours on the phone with Amazon and lively customer service and could never get that feature to work as it should. She is 99 years old and needs an EASY to maneuver device. Well- we gave up on the Jitterbug and now use the Minivision 2. Buh-bye Lively!

Needed big numbers on screen instead of screen for texting. I’m 85 years old and don’t text. Pressing the OK button is a pain and just an added step for older people with bad eyesight.

Happy with the old-school simplicity. Calls and text.....no internet...no facebook, tweeter, instagrammar or tok tic. Battery weakens quicker than I'd like, but it's a small price to pay to end smart-phone addiction and slavery to a device!

Bought this phone for my 93 year old mom. Easy to operate although I needed assistance with speed dial. The salesman at Best Buy and the operator at Lively were great! I recommend this phone.

Ask for the old style Jitterbug instead

DON’T buy the Jitterbug 2. Ask for the old style. You will be much happier. My 96 year old dad has been using the Jitterbug Flip for about five years. Recently it suffered a laundry mishap, and did not survive the spin cycle at the assisted living facility. So, I bought a replacement, the new and improved Jitterbug 2 Flip, called Lively customer service (formerly Great Call), and got the new device authorized. The Monday after Christmas, their customer service lines were jammed as expected, but once we got through, their courteous and knowledgeable staff was very helpful. Really. It was only after I hung up from them that I noticed that the new and improved phone is difficult to use, and the interface is completely different from the original. Three more calls proved that Dad’s new phone cannot get a firmware update that should fix some of the issues. One big feature that its missing is “Flip open to answer” . My dad’s phone takes 3 button pushes to answer a call. Apparently this is a feature that they can’t make work. It makes this phone nearly impossible to be used my dad. I think Lively messed up a pretty ok product. They changed the user interface entirely from the somewhat clunky “YES” “NO” navigation to a traditional menu system. Which would be great if you didn’t have cataracts, and loss of feeling in your fingertips. This is supposed to be telephone, like my original Nokia back…whenever that was. (Sometime after I upgraded from my 1990 car phone.) My dad doesn’t care about Alexa, or a camera, or even texts. Just a phone, that is easy to answer and initiate a call. So Lively customer service is sending me a new old style Jitterbug Flip. It will have flip to answer, and even speed dial! And defaults on open to a contacts list that makes it easy to place a call. DON’T buy the Jitterbug 2. Ask for the old one. You will be much happier.

Piece of crap Sales people Lied this phone was supposed to use Alexa to call and text people. It is complicated You have to say Alexa Ask Lively to call........ If you mess it up you have to close the phone and do it again. So now put it in the hands of a person with dementia. Good Luck it is NOT WHAT they are selling you it is NOT SIMPLE Took two hours to set up several phone calls to Lively agents they kept getting disconnected and when you call back the wait times get longer and longer. We are not happy.

Some negatives, but overall easy to use.

Overall, it's easy to use. I purchased it for my elderly parents, who do not adapt well to new technology. The manual is excellent - step-by-step, illustrated, short pages that aren't overwhelming. It would be nice to have the keys actually have edges (my father is blind, and even the raised keys are hard for him to navigate). Also, the way contacts are accessed uses almost as many keystrokes as dialing the number if you already know it. The final issue I have encountered so far is that there is no "home" button - the only way I've found to get there is to keep hitting the "back" button until I get there.

This is an upgrade from my 1st gen Jitterbug. The camera is nicer but some of the functions aren't. It takes several more button pushes to pick up voice mail.

Junk phone + junk service = not happy

The telephone my mother received has to be rebooted daily to call out or receive incoming calls. Getting customer service on the phone takes forever. I am on hold now for more than 1/2 hour. Last time I called cust serv I opted for a callback. At around 6pm their system said I’d receive a call back un 42 mins. My call back came at 8:30 am the next day. So far Lively has not been able to help w the problem. I suggest readers if this opt for a real telephone from Apple and a real telecom company. I am getting rid of this junk phone and junk service.

It’s fine kind of a pain to make a call, you have to scroll to find the contact and them push ok three times before the call goes through.

    Sometimes Redesigns Wreck Usefulness

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We purchased this phone for my 96-yr old mother who has very low vision and is hard of hearing. She's not tech savvy and is very forgetful. This phone isn't intuitive at all and it has software glitches Lively knows about but hasn't expressed an interest in fixing. Half the time the Alexa/Lively interface kicks Mom out to her phone screen after she's correctly completed the 3 different responses needed to get the phone to dial a contact number. Sometimes turning it off and on again helps but usually she just has to wait a bit then keep trying, sometimes for over a day. The 1st customer service rep suggested setting up Speed dialing for her frequently called numbers but that isn't helpful since she can't see well enough. We finally reached a rep that said a lot of seniors have called in about the same problem. He offered to send her the original Jitterbug Flip like the one she had and loved. He even said if we call when it arrives they will activate it and then transfer her contacts for her. Also the battery can be taken out and additional memory can be added under the battery. Re: other issues with the Flip2, the volume isn't as loud as it should be even when set at maximum. This is a worse problem when using the speaker phone. The rubbery buttons aren't defined enough to use by feel. And if my mother grips the phone very hard, random buttons are sometimes pushed causing actions by the phone..
