Be Careful if upgrading from a Smart3

I bought this for my 91 year old father-in-law to upgrade from his existing Jitterbug Smart3. Lively overlays the standard Android interface with their own interface. You can get back to the Android interface if needed (I find it easier to use the stock Android interface to do phone set up tasks. My father-in-law is perfectly content to use the Lively interface for everyday use).
We took the new phone and his existing Smart3 to Best Buy to have them switch servicve between the phones. That was the extent of the support they were able/willing to provide. As it turns out, we would probably have done better to just call Lively to switch between the phones.
The support person (Geek Squad) at Best Buy pulled the SIM from the old phone and transferred it to the new phone (which is admittedly probably what I would have done). I had backed up his old phone via the standard Google interface before going to Best Buy and restored to the new phone (again using the standard Google interface for both) after the support person had switched the SIMs.
After we finished the new phone seemed to work fine. However, after we left the store, my father-in-law began having trouble making the phone work the way he wanted it. We called Lively and were told that we should not have switched the SIM form the old phone to the new one.
We were instructed to remove the old SIM and return it to his Smart3 and reinsert the SIM that came with his Smart4. We were then advised to turn off both phones and wait about 60 minutes.
After we did that, it seems that everything worked fine with the new phone. So, be careful when upgrading to call Lively and not merely switch SIMs between the phone you are upgrading and the Smart4.
One really good thing about the Smart4 is that Android Auto seems to work much better than with the Smart3. I had not been able to get Android Auto to work when my father-in-law's Smart3 was linked via Bluetooth to his car. However, as soon as I linked the Smart4 via Bluetooth to his car, I was immediately prompted to set up Android Auto and my father-in-law now has Google Maps working properly in his car.
If you are going to use Lively as your phone carrier, I highly recommend using the Smart4 as your phone of choice.

Great little smartphone for seniors who are not too familiar with tech. Easy to navigate. Screen size isn’t too small and the sound quality of the phone is very good.

Good Phone For Seniors

Purchase and activation were easy, teaching a 98 yr old how to use even this very simple cell phone is challenging. Swiping is a foreign skill! I thought she’d like the bigger screen phone for pictures but in hindsight I think the flip phone would have been easier for her to use.

This is the perfect cell phone for anyone but especially for seniors. It is easy to read; easy to write; easy to use! It is such an improvement from old flip phones or many of those with such small letters and numbers. Fantastic for seniors! I can even put in my grocery list, set an alarm, get my emails and much more. So glad we chose our Jitterbug Smart4 Smartphone.

I bought mom the Jitterbug Smart4 while out to visit for 10 days. The phone is a great product, and it works great for my mom. Beware of the "activate in store today" - Best Buy employees ported my # rather than my mom's. It took me 4-days, and multiple calls between my carrier, and Lively to get my # ported back to my phone (requiring a new sim card), and get her number ported to to her Jitterbug Smart4 before I had to catch my flight back home. There was at least a day where neither of us could make calls, but could only text using WIFI - a huge inconvenience. I had to use my brothers phone to make some of the calls. Thanks to some bright, and valuable reps from my provider, and Lively this was all resolved by 5pm the night before my early morning flight! Whew!

It is easier to set up than the previous smartphones and no bloatware!:) I use a cell only for emergencies... but, thus far, I can use the Smart 4 without glasses, if, need be. Smart 4 allows a user to shuffle the home menu so, much better than the previous cells. I have yet to test it for calling... I only know thus far, that I can use it without a font enlarger app. I have not tested a car app either. Only the messaging app has been used thus far. Charges quickly compared to the previous cell had so, much bloatware, it stopped charging at 80%.

This would be a great phone if not for the cost of an additonal phone plan. We already have another carrier and one additional line there is $20. With Jitterbug's proprietary network it is more expensive. Also, our loved one is much more used to one of the A brands, and we were able to set that phone up to where there are only 4 contacts showing in cartouches on the front/home screen. We didn't activate the Jitterbug to find out if it could do the same. Jitterbug is an android phone which limited our ability to troubleshoot over the phone with our dementia family memebr who doesnt live with us.

I bought the Jitterbug 4 Smart Phone for my 85 year old mom. I was able to set the phone up with ease unlike the one that I bought 2 months prior from one of the major cell companies. I love how there are affordable customizable plans, again unlike the major cell companies. The phone is extremely easy to use. I tested it out, and my mom started using it right away with ease. This phone is for anyone wanting an easy to use smartphone.

I got this for my grandmother to keep in touch with the family through social media. The Jitterbug Smart4 is incredibly easy to use and she was able to learn how to use it pretty quickly. I like the screen size and how big the font gets, not to mention how friendly and helpful Lively customer support is.

I previously had a flip phone that I called out on only. I was running into more and more situations that I needed to use a cell phone. I dreaded getting one because anything electronic is so hard to use when you are older. I'm 76.
I was pleasantly surprised. It is very easy to use. The only problem I'm having is with hitting the wrong keys when texting. I've called Customer Support twice with questions and they are very helpful and easy to understand. I'm very happy with my new phone!

Good basic 'smart' phone for this person of a certain age. Easy, visible home screen.
I wanted it for a couple of apps. And I wanted to avoid a small screen full of tiny icons. This works well for that.
Texting (which I dislike a lot) isn't easier than it looks like on 'regular' phones, but OK.

Not the Original Jitterbug Interface for Texting

This phone overall is a decent android phone, but does not have the original jitterbug interface while texting. Apparently they sold out to google, so they got rid of jitterbug messages. My moms original smartphone broke, she had the first jitterbug smartphone and was use to the interface. So with the new phone, I had to teach my elderly mom how too use google messages, and she didn't like the change at all. They should have left the original interface, because it was easy for seniors to navigate as oppose to this one. We also found out that they would not activate an older version of this phone if you found it online, because its no longer supported. You must have the jitterbug 3 or 4. Hope this helps.
