Great epilogue to the original X-Men film series

This was a great and powerful concluding chapter to Wolverine's legacy; it is pretty depressing if you're a fan of this series but it's very rewarding as well. Wolvie goes out with an emotional bang in this R rated take on the legendary Marvel character. The blu ray looks solid in both color and B&W versions on the disc, audio is great and immersive. I highly recommend this to add to your collection.

Directed by James Mangold (The Wolverine, Walk the Line) from a screenplay by Mangold, Scott Frank (The Wolverine, Get Shorty) and (Heroes, American Gods), Logan is a finely crafted movie with a moving script and excellent performances that bring the Hugh Jackman Wolverine story-arc to a fitting conclusion. The story is set in a not-too-distant future of 2029, but it's a world that's changed dramatically for mutants in general and for James "Logan" Howlett (Hugh Jackman in truly top form), who no longer goes by Wolverine, and Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart in arguably his best performance in the role), who's no longer a professor anywhere. The intervening years have not been kind to either man. Logan's healing factor is failing, his body having apparently been slowly poisoned over time by the adamantium fused into his skeleton as part of the Weapon X program. Xavier, who's now in his 90's, is physically frail but also suffers from advancing neurological degeneration and seizures which must be suppressed medically to avoid devastating telepathic eruptions that can lay out anyone who happens to be in the vicinity. With assistance from fellow mutant Caliban (Stephen Merchant), Logan looks after Charles, holed up in an abandoned factory near the Texas/Mexico border where he works as a limo driver for rich tourists. Logan, Xavier and Caliban are seemingly among the last mutants around. For some reason, no new mutants have been born in the last twenty-five years. Or so it would seem until they encounter an 11-year-old girl named Laura (Dafne Keen who definitely holds her own in scenes with Jackman and Stewart), of whom Xavier tells Logan "She's like you... very much like you." The good thing about the screenplay is that you don't need more than a basic familiarity with the main characters - Jackman's Wolverine and Patrick Stewart's Professor X - to follow what's going on. One of the best things about Logan as a film, which helps make it arguably the best film of the X-Men/Wolverine series, is due to the excellent screenplay that allows both Jackman and Stewart to really flex their considerable acting talents and bring new depth and perspectives to their roles as Logan and Xavier, characters for whom the world has vastly changed and not in good ways. As is already hinted at in the trailers, Logan's healing factor is failing him as is Xavier's health and mind. The end of the road is all too visible for both men and both have to face their personal doubts and fears in ways they never had to before. As a result, Jackman and Stewart give the best performances of their characters to date, not to mention some of the best performances of their careers. It is a credit to young Dafne Keen that she can hold her own in her scenes with these two veterans as well as the scenes where she's on her own. The musical score by Marco Beltrami (The Wolverine, The Hurt Locker) is suitably atmospheric, suggesting a worn-down weariness in some scenes but jumping into an edgy adrenaline-rush feeling in others, but always in the background, never over-powering or distracting from what's happening on the screen. Highly, highly recommended for anyone who's ever been a fan of superhero movies in general, of the X-men series in particular, or of just great story-telling and moving performances by a great cast.

    A Great Movie For Wolverine

This is a genre defining comic book movie, and the R rating helped it immensely create the vision it needed to succeed. Jackman and Stewart are great as always and the end is sad, but a great conclusion to this character.

    Ridiculously Awesome Movie

This movie was Awesome. If you are an X-Men fan, it is a must see & must have. Easily the best Wolverine flick, and that's saying something. Rivals any of the previous X-Men flicks & anything from MCU. Introduces X-23 to the X-Men films. Awesome action, and great story. Fitting ending. Can't say enough good things about this movie. Only disappointment is the closure on Hugh Jackman Patrick Stewart era means we won't see them any more in these X-Films. It was bound to happen eventually I guess. But this movie is one of the best comic book movie adaptations ever filmed. I see other reviews dissing the cover artwork... how meaningless. Movie is awesome. Buy it.

    One Last Ride

I eagerly awaited this film, knowing ahead of time Hugh Jackman was hanging up the claws after. When news broke that this would be an adaptation on the Old Man Logan story, I was curious as to how that would be done given some characters that are unavailable to Fox to use in their X-Men films. I kept hearing about how Jackman gave this one everything he had and after seeing the film in theaters on opening night, I have to say they told a story worth telling. Just as important, they told one worthy of being Hugh Jackman's last film in the X-Men franchise. It's bittersweet seeing him in this film due to both knowing it's his last and also seeing what he can really do as this character compared to the toned down PG-13 outings. I love those films, but the Logan we meet here is much closer to what we see in the comics. Patrick Stewart's performance should also be praised as well. I feel both he and Hugh Jackman turned in their best performances to date in these roles, which says quite a bit given their past entries. It's only fitting that they close out their tenure leaving their audience wanting much more. The product itself is quite a good package. It has artwork from Steve McNiven, an artist well known among Marvel comics lovers, and also the bonus of including the Logan Noir (Black & White) version, which had been talked about shortly after the film's release. I have not watched it yet, but am told it adds to the tone of the film. If you enjoyed the previous films, you'll want to do yourself a favor and get closure on the first X-Men cast (to an extent).

Logan is not your typical superhero film

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

"Logan", despite being labeled as an X-Men spinoff film, is not your typical superhero film (or X-Men film). In Hugh Jackman's final portrayal of Weapon X, the film can best be described as "part neo-noir, part contemporary Western". Heavily influenced by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's "Old Man Logan" limited series, the story centers around an aging Wolverine and a brain disease- stricken Professor X in a dystopian future, where they are one of the few living mutants left on Earth. In terms of the R-rating, "Logan" embraces it fully: It's intense, bleak, bloody, sloppy, and profane, sometimes all in the same scene. While "Deadpool" may have paved the way for "Logan" to receive critical and financial success, "Logan" embraces little humor and is a character and emotionally driven storyline. I would highly recommend the DVD and Blu-ray Combo Pack , which includes "Logan Noir", a special black- and- white version of the film.

I've seen this movie in theatres. The cinematography was greeat and the storyline was an emotional rollercoaster. They did a good job making Wolverine (Logan) seem weaker than his counterparts. Also, surprisingly the conclusion given from the movie seemed right. It felt like you knew these characters when watching it For a video unboxing / impressions and set up check here! Great Movie: Just Watch for Some Things.

First of all the movie is great and you should definitely get the movie if you haven't seen it yet. My only problem I had with it is not the movie itself, its the product I bought. My first let down was that it didn't come with a slip cover which I like even though some people don't care or don't like them. My second let down was that the movie that I got didn't come with the 4 discs that I thought it would come with, its only the 4k and Blu-ray. My third let down was that the digital copy of the movie is only HD and NOT 4k. All the other movies I had came with a 4k digital copies and all have slip covers so now its kind of out of place. I ordered it online so the situation with the slip cover and the 4 discs may not be an issue.

Logan's farewell and rise of the new mutants

Marvel and Fox do a good job of portraying Logan's last days as he learns about new mutants; one of those mutants turns out to be created from his DNA. Logan finally gets to go all out and fight like a true wolverine that he is. This movie is not for the faint of heart as there is more blood and gore than all the previous X-Men movies from before. We also learn the genetic difference between male and female wolverines from Professor Xavier. Only true Wolverine fans will enjoy this movie.

Logan is a great finale for both Hugh Jackman (Logan/Wolverine) and Patrick Stewart (Professor X), but don't despair, as Logan's replacement is introduced: Laura Kinney, played by the excellent Dafne Keen. It's hard to believe that someone this good is only 11 years old!!!

My wife and I missed "Logan" in the theaters and were excited to get the movie once it came out for home purchase after hearing all of the positive reviews. The special features, picture, sound, etc. were excellent, especially on an OLED screen. The movie itself we both came out as "that's it?" Maybe it was overhype but we were a little disappointed because of the hype (didn't have that the overhype issue with "Deadpool". We both loved that movie).
