Nice 720p camera with great microphone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Logitech - C505 HD Webcam is a nice personal webcam. It is limited to 720p, unlike many other cameras that operate at up to 1080p. Unless your viewer is watching you at full screen, you will likely not notice the difference. The microphone is strong and will pick up your voice clearly at up to 10 feet. To avoid an echo loop, it is advised to use earbuds or a headset instead of your computer speakers to listen in. The camera has a unique folding base that allows you to put the camera on your desktop or on top of your monitor. It sits nicely on all of my different monitors. It had no difficulty working in the lighting conditions in my home office. The camera has a 60-degree view field, so it's good for 1 or 2 people sitting on your end. It would have to be used at a distance for any group larger than that. The 7 ft long cable gives the flexibility to put the camera where ever you want it. Overall it's a nice, affordable webcam and I recommend it.

Better audio and video in a small device
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve used this webcam on a linux, mac, and windows. The audio and video has been much better than the built in cameras on those devices. It is a 720p webcam, which is the same as my macbook, but the video is much better. It is clearer and better in lower light conditions. The audio also seems better – people had no difficulty hearing even when I wasn’t right in front of the laptop. It also havs a very long cable, 7 ft. So you can move it around as needed. The hinge attachment works well to keep the webcam on the laptop screen (also worked well on an external monitor) and I really like that that you can tilt the camera to get the right angle. The webcam also has a wide angle view, which is nice to get more scene into the frame. The webcam is also very small, making it easily portable. I do wish that it had a physical shutter cover, but it does have a light when in use, and is easy to disconnect.

Good entry webcam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was using a Logitech C310 and have switched to the C505 after using it. Setup is easy, plug and play. The camera is light and sits on you monitor. Logitech has some software to fine tune or adjust if needed. The C310 is an older Logitech 720p webcam. In the years since, the C505, also 720p, has a better image. The picture is more natural and looks sharper. The low light option has been improved a bit too. The camera worked with Zoom, Skype, googel, and MS teams with no issues. Voice was clear and no problems with being understood. If you want an easy to setup straight forward camera this works well.

You'd never know it was 720p
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I only have a desktop computer at home, so whenever I'd work from home I was out of luck if I needed to do a video conference and would have to drive to the office to pick up a laptop. Not anymore! The webcam doesn't require any drivers - 100% plug and play! Windows installs them itself, nothing to download. I tried it with Google Meet, Facebook Messenger, and Zoom - in all of them it was crystal clear and the audio coming from the built-in mic was phenominal ! A great webcam - does what I need it to!

Swing and a Miss
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know where this webcam is supposed to help. It is marketed as an upgrade to existing built-in webcams but I just don't see it. Pros: - 7 ft usb cord: This is nice to be able to position the webcam where you need it. - Better than nothing. MAYBE better than what you already have. Cons: - Build quality: I have a few issues with how this is constructed. #1 - The combined design of the mount and size of the camera itself made it virtually impossible to not cover a portion of my screen either on a laptop or monitor (once I was able to balance it properly), "Universal" is not the word I would use. Unless you have a thick-bezeled monitor in the right shape, you will struggle with mounting this. #2 - The extended cord is great, but there is no tripod mount. This means you have to use a shelf or a stack of books or something if you want to use this. #3 - If you have a shelf or stack of books to place this on IT DOES NOT SIT FLAT. The design pointed out in #1 forces the camera to sit at a slight upward angle and is not adjustable enough to make this a viable option. #4 - No physical privacy shutter. The LED light is a nice awareness of an active cam but with today's current hyperfocus on privacy, there is no substitute for a physical shutter of some kind and no excuse to omit them from a new webcam in this price point. - Image Quality: In my opinion, the image quality from this camera is fine, but will not be better than any relatively new laptop or smart phone/ tablet. - Viewing Angle: In my experience the 60 degree angle is fine for one person, but definitely tight. At a normal distance monitor my face filled more of the fram than I was comfortable with on a video call. The fact that it is advertised to fit multiple people is a joke. If you absolutely need a webcam and can't find any other alternative, this will be fine. However, I simply can't find any other situation in which to recommend it. I LOVE Logitech products but this, to me, just feels like they are trying to cash in on the spike in demand for webcams and put out an extremely poorly designed product in response. By the time of this review, many of us have been living in the new normal of quarantine for 9 months. I have to imagine that we have already found workable solutions for maintaining personal contact and are not desperate enough to need this product. Save your money and find a C920s. For not much more $ you get a vastly superior product.

Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is a great product for the price. The microphone has room for improvement, but you can still clearly hear the person talking. It sits and stays well on the top of a monitor as well.

Logitech C505

No secure way to attach
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the second Logitech webcam I've owned and they both have the same fatal flaw - there is no kind of tension clip that allows easy on/off attachment to a monitor. The way this 'attaches' to the monitor is to, in effect, just sit on top of the upper monitor edge. If you move or bump your monitor, the webcam will either go out of alignment or, more likely, just fall off. I haven't used other company's webcams so I don't know if this is just the industry standard in terms of attaching the camera to your monitor but, regardless, it's a deal breaker for me and I imagine many others. As for the video quality, I wasn't expecting anything mind blowing as it's only 720p so I don't really have a complaint about that. But, again, why can't a simple tension clip be used to attach the webcam to the monitor?

Posted .Hello customer, I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some issues with your C505. This clip does provide some tension by placing the webcam on top of the screen and then closing the back half of the clip, providing some security for the webcam while maintaining it's portability.

Get the C270 instead!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the C505 thinking it seemed similar to the older C270, but surely it must be better given it's much newer. Image quality was very soft - almost like things were out of focus. I purchased a C270 (more than $20 cheaper) to compare, and sure enough it's noticeably sharper. Not a dramatic difference for video conferences, but still lame that this much newer and more expensive model underperforms the C270.

Posted .Hello 02nz. We're sorry to hear you were having focus issues with your C505 webcam. For both webcams, I generally recommend downloading our Camera Settings software here https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360049055854 . This will allow you to adjust the focus and many other settings! We appreciate the feedback and will be noting the focus issue with the C505 webcam. Thank you so much! - Maggie from Logitech

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this is garbage! its less than half the picture quality of my built in macbook camera and was so hoping to use it on my monitor and avoid having to move where i look for video calls im on daily. guess i will need to try a different one!

Posted .Hi mps8563, thank you for sharing your experience with the C505 webcam. I'm sorry that the quality of the photo was less than a built in webcam on your macbook. The C505 offers a 720p/30fps resolution. The C505 offers a 60° diagonal field of view which can feel zoomed in as it doesn't capture a lot of the surrounding area. If you are still looking for a different webcam I would suggest looking at the Logitech 4K webcam, it offers a wider field of view and multiple resolution options. Kristi from Logitech
