The only thing I would change is making the keyboard able to fold all the way behind the iPad instead of having to take it off every time.

Having the full keyboard with the smart connection combined with the ability to have a strong case when using as a tablet was important. I was a bit skeptical about not having additional security for the Apple Pencil but so far so good. The only "gripe" is that it's a bit of a pain to open/separate to use but doesn't deter me from considering it a near-perfect case

I just use a cheap lap desk and it works great.
