This boom arm is garbage. I had to tighten the pivot tighteners so hard that it broke apart because the boom arm wants to extend to it's original position and the. Pivot tighteners are not strong enough to hold. The boom arm in place Don't waste your money on this product

This is either a poor product or BestBuy gave me the one they let other customers play with in the store. I bought it at BestBuy at Cascade Station in Portland, OR during their remodeling. The guy that got the stand out for me for pickup gave it to me and I noticed that box was scratched and looked like it was opened before. When I asked if this is brand new item or if it was opened before, he claimed it was never opened. I still trusted him and brought it home. First attempt to mount the arm was super hard. The knob in the middle was hard to tighten from beginning. When I mounted Shure MV7 Dynamic Cardioid microphone, I was expecting that it's weight will be enough to hold the arm in the controllable position. I had to tighten that middle knob once again. Ten days later, while working on the computer and preparing for the important interview, something just popped and entire arm went up in the air together with microphone. After inspecting it, that knob and the screw in the middle got broken - the plastic part is just too finicky.

Returned item to store after the first one failed to adjust as advertised no matter the adjustments. Got the second one home and still very very hard to get dialed in. Once setup in a preferable position be careful to bump it, loses its position no matter how tight you make the adjustments.

When I bought this arm, I'd only done so because Best Buy didn't carry any of the arms from Elgato. Settling for this was definitely a mistake in my case. The two microphones I've tested on it now are the Blue Yeti and the Elgato Wave 3. To get the Blue Yeti to stay in position (more on why in a moment) I had to adjust both the base and the mid-point of the arm as tight as I could get them by hand. That made it to where the microphone just barely stayed in place as long as I didn't bump it or anything. I later decided to attach my Elgato Wave 3 to this instead as the software for it is MUCH better. I attached the microphone and let it go, it immediately started traveling upward. To get the microphone to stop, I had to break out the pliers and adjust both of the tension knobs to the point where they felt like they were going to break (they're made of very cheap plastic). The reason why this arm is such a pain is because like many other arms it has springs in it. The problem is that the spring they used is EXTREMELY tight. Even after loosening it all the way under the base, it was still way too tight. If the spring on this was a little more loose it would make for a great arm, but as is I can only recommend it if you have something quite heavy, like a Shure SM7B or something along those lines. This arm is VERY durable, with a nice secure mount. So it's a good stand overall. I just can't recommend it for anyone with a lighter microphone.

Hello, Squishy! I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the Compass arm! The trick that I have learned for lighter microphones is to take out the extra tensioning screw in the bottom of the arm. I personally have a Blue Spark SL and was having a similar issue until I took the screw out. Thank you so much for the feedback on the design of the arm! I will be passing this along. - Maggie from Blue

We’ll constructed. Good quality. Has a nice matte black texture finish. Will work great with most mics but I found that my Blue Yeti is just a tad bit too light and have had to add a make shift weight around it to keep it from rising up at it’s lowest point. Even with adjusting the tension my mic still snaps back up. If you use your mic as an overhead mic you will have no problems.

This is a good quality mic arm this is also my first I ever owned and although I like it a lot there are things about it that isn’t so great .pros- easy set up, easy use, great quality, long reach, holds heavy mics, wire hider, con- edge of my desk is cut at an angle so mic clap deosnt hold to well, tightening screw deosnt feel satisfying will turning, nothing to lock mic in from swaying side to side..... note- this all besides the screw may have to do with the angle cut of my desk but I will be looking into the rode arm for the same price hoping it’s Better

Works to hold up a Yeti X and the cable channel is nice to have. It is quite stiff to manipulate and not suitable for a light microphone as it will tend to go fully upright without a load.

I’d say the build quality is really good and was well thought out the only issue that made me return it, is the fact that it has very tight springs. If your going to buy this product make sure to have a heavy mic, my quad cast was too light for this so the springs would just shoot it back up (I had the tension screw at the bottom turned all the way for the least amount and it was still too much). All in all the build quality is top notch I just felt like the spring tension could of been better.

The build quality surpasses the ones you see on amazon for 14$. I ended up having an issue that Blue refunded me my money. After the return policy is when I got around to opening it and had the problem that the tension was set toooooo high and I couldn't adjust it enough without the screw becoming undone. I tried getting them to replace it but they wouldnt because of stock they said. I plan to get another one and check the tension prior to leaving store.

Please read regarding non Blue brand microphones!!! This is a quality boom arm. It is well constructed and solid. I didn't take away any stars because I used a different brand microphone other than those it was intended for. The truth is this would probably work very well with a Blue mic, which is heavier than the one I bought. I bought an El Gato Wave:3 microphone, which is significantly lighter. I loosened the spring tension all the way, and it will still ride up a little, depending on the angle and usage. That being said, I found a setting where it will stay where I need it. That is the only complaint I have. Came with plenty of adapters included to fit whatever mic you buy. Would definitely recommend if you're buying a Blue brand microphone.

It is a very sleek design. I really like the look of this arm compared to others. The built in cable management is a great feature, it hides the cable pretty well and adds to the clean look this arm provides. Where it falls EXTREMELY short is the tension adjustments. Out of the box, it is set extremely stiff, the upper arm can quite literally catapult upwards. If you happen to have computer monitors, lamps, your face, etc., in the path of this boom arms wrath you may have a really upsetting day. This arm is also NOT FOR LIGHT MICROPHONES. If you’re microphone is lightweight, this boom arm will NOT WORK. I own 2 of these arms, I have tried 3 different microphones on them. Blue Snowball Ice: This arm is useless for this microphone. No matter how much you loosen the tension screw and tighten the adjustment point (made of plastic btw), It will never hold its position. It will spring back up due to how lightweight the snowball is. Shure SM7B: This mic was hefty enough to put the Compass in its place, however the xlr cable possion for this mic didnt work well with this arm either. But that is a design flaw for both the mic and the arm. Shure MV7x: I was able to get this mic to be useable with the arm after fully torquing the middle adjustment knob until I could not physically turn it anymore. One of the arms still will slowly rise up, while my 2nd compass seems to have locked in a little better. Overall: I dont think this boom arms looks are enough to deal with the headache it will cause.

It won’t hold still! It has a tendency to move even after you’ve put it in a position. This product is not as good as the Rode PSA 1, which Best Buy doesn’t carry on the shelf. The knobs that you turn also feel flimsy and like they’re going to break. I feel the phantom movement is a letdown because a good mic arm is one that you can put toward your sound quickly and easily. Other than that, it looks great, and it’s sturdy. The cable management system is a plus. Blue makes good products. If you can dial in one mic position that you don’t deviate from, then this arm will do the job. Otherwise, get the Rode.

The Logitech/Blue Compass Microphone Boom arms build quality is terrific it is made out of hard and sturdy plastic and aluminum. But has one key flaw that makes it terrible in my opinion. It is practically made exclusively for Blues microphone line because lightweight mics like the Razer Seiren X can not be used because there is not enough weight to keep the boom arm down. Blue has designed the compass to be supported by the weight of the microphone attached which is a fatal flaw for anyone not using the Blue Yeti in my opinion. So unless you purchase a Blue Yeti Do Not! Buy this product

      Hello,
Thank you for choosing the Blue Compass Boom arm, and for sharing your experience. I apologize for any difficulties that you have encountered in setting up your Compass Boom arm I would like to help. The Compass Boom arm has adjustable friction hinges. For additional adjustment, please life the Compass from the C-clamp. Inside the base of Compass you will find a tension adjustment screw which will offer additional adjustment to the internal spring tension. Rotate the screw
counter-clockwise in this situation to loosen for a lightweight microphone. I have attached a link to the support page for your reference, where you will find guides and further support. I hope you will enjoy your Compass Boom arm.
