This is a great choice for anyone looking for a first mechanical keyboard that's interested more in the tactile feedback / typing experience than the rainbow light shows. I've literally never NOT loved anything I've bought from Logitech, and this is no exception; solid, decisive actuation, a really nice heft and overall feeling of quality manufacturing - and at a very reasonable price. The backlighting is beautifully clean and consistent, USB pass-through is a nice addition, and the risers are stable and give just the right amount of lift. My only caveat (and I know this is common with backlit keys) is the caps lock light being located on the top RH corner as opposed to on the key itself - but I'll probably have already adjusted to that by the time most of you read this, though :) TL;DR: Awesome entry-level keyboard with very respectable features, from a consistently awesome company, at a very affordable price.

    Great "Non-Gamer" Mechanical Keyboard

    Posted .

This is an upgrade from the stock dome switch chiclet keyboard that came with my desktop PC. Mechanical keyboards are usually marketed as gaming keyboards and usually look the part. I consider myself a casual gamer and so I have no use for a keyboard with RGB backlighting or a large number of other features. This keyboard uses Logitech’s own Romer-G switches. I do not have any experience with the Cherry MX family of switches so I cannot compare the Romer-G switches to them. In my opinion, the Romer-Gs give the proper mechanical feel without being obnoxiously loud. They have just enough click and spring resonance to remind the user that this is indeed a mechanical keyboard. The Romer-G switches have a noticeable tactile bump so there is no need to bottom out the keys. The silver backplate of this keyboard looks great with my monitor and desktop tower which are both silver and/or have silver accents. The build quality is very solid. This keyboard is heavy and will not slide around on the desk. The look is classy enough to stand out but not so much that it looks like a typical gaming keyboard. It does have white backlighting which can be customized somewhat with the Logitech Gaming Software. Also, the USB passthrough is a nice touch for a keyboard in this price point provided an open USB port on your computer is available. Finally, I’ll probably never use the included replicable gaming keycaps but it is thoughtful of Logitech to include them. One downside, which others have commented, is that Num Lock and Scroll Lock do not have their own indicator lights on the keyboard. Caps Lock and the gaming mode G key have indicators. It’s only a minor gripe for me.

Considering many mechanical keyboards go for easily more than 100 dollars, this is a great option. I wish it had more than just red backlighting (RGB would be great), but the lighting options and dimming are great regardless. The keyboard has a great feel, a nice, subtle clacky sound, and a moderately tactile cross-over (when the key "presses"). The keyboard has a reassuring heft to it, and the cold metal frame is a nice touch. I would recommend this keyboard for gaming or for everyday use, especially for the price.

    Nice, quiet mechanical keyboard.

Let me preface this review by saying that I'm not a PC gamer, aside from some retro titles I recall from my childhood and some games I played in college. I am, however, the fastest typist I know and I find the precision and speed of a good mechanical keyboard to be indispensable in my job as a medical accounts representative. My old mechanical keyboard, a Kingston Alloy FPS, was excellent but its MX Blue switches were far too loud for an office where my coworkers and I spend a significant amount of time on the phone. The Romer-G Tactile switches in this G413 keyboard lack the click of my old Kingston, but the trade-off is mechanical precision coupled with membrane-level quietness. I love the flat aluminum top case (easy to get dust and crumbs out with canned air) and the keycaps have a pleasant feel, neither too slippery nor too tacky. For me, the lack of RGB lighting or fancy flashing patterns is a feature, not a bug, but I am using this keyboard at work where 95% of the time, the backlight isn't even turned on. Typing on a keyboard with Cherry MX Blue switches sounds like machine gun fire when I'm going at 100 wpm -- but this Logitech 'board doesn't have that issue. So, if you want an understated, quiet mechanical keyboard for your workplace, check this one out. I almost think this keyboard is quieter than the cheap membrane ones my coworkers use.

To start with, I am not a gamer. I'm moving from "squishy" membrane type keyboards, which is my only point of reference, other than being old enough to use mechanical keyboards in the past. I don't care about a lot of the features on higher end mechanical keyboards. I use it mainly for a point of sale system that is F key driven. This is just about perfect. It has the durability that I need and has a great feel. I'm a proficient typist, and I enjoy the short key stroke, it's just about perfect for me. Keystroke effort is a little heavier than I expected. There really isn't much tactile feedback as advertised, but I really don't mind. The F keys are where they are supposed to be, so I don't have to look down. I did buy a wrist rest which isn't included, which is fair for this price point. I prefer to find one myself. I don't really care for the ones that come with most keyboards. Totally satisfied at this point.

Ordered via Website and picked up at store. The box was cut at the edge by inventory staff when unpacking, but since it's just the outside, I ignored it. After plugging it in, I noticed that the light for F12 was different than those of the rest of the keyboard. While 99+% of the keys had a blueish-tinted LED, the F12 key had a slightly darker straight white (the kind I get from my G610). Instead of spending the rest of the time being bothered by that, I brought it back for an exchange. The newer keyboard came in a box that was in even worse shape. One of the edges is almost completely cut, exposing the inner black box. Again, it's just the outside box, right? The keyboard itself is fine this time. Consistent lighting. BUT the left shift key makes a different sound when pressed than the rest of the keys. I can repeat this again. But the customer support guy and I will be sick of each other, and gas isn't free. I'll live with it. Maybe plucking it out and reinserting it will fix it. Regardless, I'm sure there are some perfectly crafted/manufactured keyboards out there for this model. I just haven't had the luck. And just because I am partial to the Silver model, I'm confined to BestBuy (as opposed to getting it online like I did for my G610, from that store you're thinking about).

    Romer-G keycaps will break

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

It's an excellent keyboard in every way, but the Romer keys are a fatal flaw. The plastic tabs on the keycaps will inevitably break off and get stuck inside the switches. They are really difficult to remove, assuming you find keycaps to replace them. After 3 years and several replacements, my keys are now lumpy looking and all sit at different heights. Pay the extra and get standard switches.

I love, love, love this keyboard. It is exactly what I was looking for. It has the brown switches that are great for typing, which is what I wanted it for. I didn't want all the bells and whistles of a decked out gaming keyboard, but I wanted the tactile click which helps to increase my typing speed. It has a nice white light for the keys which is exactly what I wanted.

    Great keyboard for the price

I have had keyboards that are way more expensive than this, and have had keyboards with various switch types, from optical linear to click blue switches. For some reason, I love the romer g switches, for me it has the best tactile feel, even better than brown switches (however Khail switches are by far the best, to me they feel similar to the romer g, but they tend to come with a high price tag and are usually on smaller company keyboards like the glorious pc keyboards.) I don't care for rgb, the white light is extremely bright and the lighting is very even, looks very professional and gamer at the same time. I appreciate the "gamer" keys with contoured WASD keys, usually most key caps are pretty slippery for me I appreciate the contour, makes it a lot easier to game on. I paired this with my glorious PC wrist rest, to prevent any wrist pain, this keyboard is def a keeper for me.

I absolutely loved this keyboard from it's first use to typing this review, but something unfortunate happened recently during the first real cleaning it has needed. I went to pop the keys off using the provided tool, but upon popping the keys off realized that 3 of the 4 pegs broke on one of my keys. I swapped it out for the backup it came with, and another key also broke. This was the first time they were removed and they just broke like it was nothing. Feelsbad. I can't even use the replacement key for the second broken key until I figure out a way to remove the stuck pegs from inside the little holes. Would have recommended this until this incident.

I used to love the g910 orion spectrum. I broke two tho :/ What I loved above all else is the romer g keys. NO OTHER mechanical keyboard I tried, had as good as the romers. The backlight, weight, and silver color. Is brilliant.

    Types backwards

I like the keyboard overall. It has a satisfying feel when typing, and the backlit keys are great because my work-from-home keyboard tray is often in shadow. However, I find that when I'm online, the words I type appear backwards. So instead of Logitech in the search bar on this website, I got hcetigoL. It seems to fix itself if I refresh the page, but it is annoying.

Beware of your Static Electricity w/ this keyboard

Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed.
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

If you are planning on using this keyboard, beware of the static electricity, depending on your living conditions. For instance if you have carpeting and if you wear socks in the house. *Due to the metal plate under the keys, this keyboard is very receptive to even the tiniest static electricity shocks.* Even shocks that are almost imperceptible to you. And since I have the keyboard hooked up to a docking station with 2 monitors, the electrical grounding path from the keyboard travels through the system. So every time I accidentally shock my keyboard (can happen multiple times a day), one of my monitors blacks out for a few seconds. I never before realized how often my body built up a little static. Despite the static electricity, I really like the tactile feel and aesthetics of this keyboard, and how easy it is to clean (very few gaps for things to fall inside the case). Would give it 5 stars without the static electricity.
