    Not just for gaming!

I absolutely LOVE this keyboard. I've had my eye on it for some time and the fam picked up it for me. I know it's classified as a gaming keyboard, but it's really much more. I use this for my work keyboard--it's not a typical mechanical keyboard. It has an awesome touch, there's a lot to love with this. Although there are macro keys and such, i haven't used them but the volume control is a nice alternative and something i've really grown to love. Highly recommend this for gaming and for work use!

This keyboard is just plain sexy. Aircraft aluminum top. Low profile keys. Just "clicky" enough to know you are typing on a mechanical. The switches are jaw dropping fast. The GHub software can be a bit wonky, but that should be fixed as the software gets updated. This really is one of two slight gripes I have, but not enough to take away a star. You ask, what is the other gripe? The alternate keys assigned with the shift key are not visible with the back light. They are a light grey on black key caps. While I know what keys are where, occasionally I use something like &#%^ that are not stuck in memory. So I have to look to see what the shift key is, which is not great if the room is dark. The feel of the keyboard is fantastic. It seems like everything is just right with it. The tilt of the keyboard is just right for me with the legs extended. The volume roller is large, but not too large where it overwhelms the keyboard. Everything just flows and looks marvelous. There is a USB port on the back of the keyboard for pass-thru. The keyboard has two USB plugs, one for the keyboard itself and one for the pass-thru. Neither cable is marked as to which is which, but plug and unplug will tell you which is which. It would be nice if they were labeled in some way, but not a drawback. I am still shocked at how impossibly thin this mechanical keyboard is. Key travel is perfect, you can get the feedback you want and not drive everyone crazy with the clicks...unless you really pound and want to make it knows you are on a mechanical keyboard. If I had to give a one word review, I would probably go with "Wow!", but "Sexxxxxxx-ay" is a close second. Logitech has hit another home run with this keyboard. A Great addition to the G line of products. Give it a test drive and you will take one home.

This is literally the best keyboard I've ever touched. Ever. Made of a strong material, and with half depth clicky key presses, you can type faster than ever and it feels like magic. It's kind of like an apple keyboard with rgb and mechanical. So for me it's perfect. The customizable macros are also extremely useful for editing videos. I'm not much of a gamer, but I enjoyed the experience with Tomb Raider.

This is by far the nicest keyboard I have ever used. The magnesium finish is just phenomenal, and everything about this board screams quality build. The RGB lighting is on point, and fully customizable, and the tactile response from all the keys is exactly what I was looking for in a gaming keyboard. Even the USB cable is braided, Logitech did not miss anything on this one.

    Their Best Keyboard--but so annoying

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Overall, if you are a gamer, this is probably a pretty sweet deal. It does have clicky keys which make it kind of loud if you type a lot, but the tactile feedback is great. The problems with it are numerous though: It was absolutely the worst idea to put a column of keys to the left of the main keypad. I am forever getting upset that my control key combos aren't working when I realize that I'm not hitting the control key, I'm hitting G3 or G4. Same with the shift key. This is the second biggest design flaw on this keyboard. Having that relatively useless set of custom keys on the left causes me to always mess up where I put my hands. I have to start typing before I realize that I am off by two letters. In order to accommodate the new switches, the keys stand up a lot taller than normal. If you don't have a wristpad, you will constantly be hitting the bottom row of keys when you don't mean to. So this happens a lot: You reach over with your left pinky to hit the control key and instead open a new Chrome Window. You find your way back to your post that you have been working on forever and you try to Capitalize the letter A, but because your hands are off, you just hit ctrl-A without realizing it. Now whatever you type erases all your hard work. This happened to me dozens of times before I got a wrist pad and could elevate my hands high enough to avoid hitting the bottom row of keys by accident. A wrist pad is required for anyone who types. The fancy light-up effects are useless for designers or coders though they do have some neat effects. However, when it lights up the keys, it doesn't light up the symbol keys. Trying to remember which symbols go with which keys turns out to be a real hassle. $%(*#&@) You have to remember. It's not like the SHIFT key would change the keys and light up their associated symbols (like it should). Also, the keys come off all the time. Regularly I have to find a key that popped off and is sitting in my desk drawer for some reason. The USB Cables (yes, cables) that power it are pretty big and unwieldy--it's best to set it where you will use it and don't move it. The volume control gimmick is just that, it's a gimmick. Though it comes with Macros, there is no way to reassign keys. So if you are like everyone else on the planet and you never use the CAPS LOCK key, too bad, Every day about 10 times I hear the chimes going off that I have accidentally turned on and then off the caps lock--totally annoying. Also annoying is that if you have a second (or third) keyboard that you use on occasion, you will get the CAPSLOCK message on screen for each keyboard every time you accidentally hit it. There is no excuse other than Logitech's incompetence for not allowing the CAPSLOCK key to be disabled. Overall, it's the best keyboard they make and it's a good thing this is the first round. Hopefully they will invest some time in fixing all of the problems. Ideally, they would release a professional keyboard that had the same keys and less of the pretty lights and fancy, but really dumbed-down, user interface. Also, I had my first one for a week and the Enter Key stopped working. After jumping through hoops for 3 weeks, I finally got them to replace it. Not a good look for a brand new product.

I had been looking to upgrade to a real LED keyboard for sometime. When I saw this keyboard on a Black Friday sale ($70 off!!!) I couldn’t say no. The controls are excellent! The lighting is beautiful and programmable keys are easy to do. My only Con is the keys are a little loud from what I was used to

I love how the keys feel and the way they are positioned, especially the extra G buttons. Everything feels like I can reach it and is satisfying to type. The UI for the app is alright, took me a minute to figure out how to keep it one color and for games to stop overwriting it, but otherwise a great keyboard.

I love my G815. It woks great and is super responsive. It woks seamlessly with my other Logitech products and the GHUB software makes it easy to sync all my peripherals. It allows for easy setup of shortcuts as well as sync up lighting settings across all my Logitech products. I highly recommend this keyboard for anyone who wants a stylish gaming keyboard that doesn't sacrifice function for form.

Great keyboard, terrible 60hz light strobing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The keyboard is a great size, the keyboard switches are fantastic (I'm using the clicky keys), it's wonderful to type on with the reduced key travel time, the media control and volume options are great, the G Hub software is decent, physically it's very high quality, but my complaint is that the lighting is terrible--there's no way to stop it from strobing at 60hz like what you find on LED holiday lights. On other keyboards they've made, if you have the brightness turned up all the way, there's no strobing, but that's not the case here. And to make things worse, if you use any other color than pure red, pure green, or pure blue, when you dart your eyes back and forth, you see the colors split up to their individual components because they didn't even time the individual RGB lights inside to be in sync with each other. This is odd, because the caps lock and number lock lights are a nice, steady white with no strobing. Why couldn't they have done that with the rest of the keyboard? This wouldn't be a problem if I could actually read the letters on the keys with the lighting off. The other issue is that the symbols on the keys don't also light up, they're just printed on the keys in medium gray (why not white?) so you basically have to memorize where the symbols are. It would seem to me that if a keyboard is this expensive, it shouldn't have these issues. Fortunately, as I said, it's a well-built keyboard that's a dream to type on.

    Lights not for secondary key-function

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Very high-quality feel and comfort. Seems like a very smooth keyboard to use, cannot say why just fits well. Other keyboards feel mis-shaped or are difficult to find the home row. Maybe it is the lighting that makes it more natural to settle your hands correctly. I can only say one thing that is actually a deal breaker for me. When you hit shift, the alternative characters do not have lighting. The light effects only the primary function, so 8 will never light up the "*". It is common to use these, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why they are blacked out. The keyboard is amazing if you don't want to use the < or ) keys in the dark :/

    This keyboard (G815) vs G915

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I returned this keyboard for the wireless version (G915) because it went on sale, otherwise I would have kept this one. There are some details that no one seemed to notice: 1. The aluminum top is different. It is horizontal brushed on the G915, and matte anodized finish on this wired G815. I personally like the wired's finish better, more elegant imo. 2. I was using the "Ripple" effect on G Hub software for the keyboard's lighting (rainbow lights emanating from key presses). I noticed that the effect is much slower on the wireless G915 when you type fast (I am a touch typist). I'm guessing because being wired with infinite energy allows the keyboard to run the little lighting processor faster. So if the top aluminum finish and/or the speed of the RGB lighting processor is important to you, just get this wired version. The wired version also provide you with USB pass-through if you need that kind of thing. I have decided to keep the wireless version because I can use the awesome clicky keyboard experience with my iPads or mobile phones, otherwise I would just stick with this wired version.
