    Excellent Remote so far

I have only had it for two weeks, but no problems in any way. I'm surprised - this really does work as advertised. I have had "universal" remotes before that just provided basic operation and even the best would miss some functions and still required me to have the original remote nearby. This remote actually has all the remote commands plus some that are not on the original remotes. I have not had to use the original remotes since I programmed this. This remote will operate 10 devices. Logitech tries to get you to do "activities" instead of just a simple remote replacement. I have to admit that I was skeptical at first. I mean, that's not how I have used remotes in the past - you turn on each of the components, then go and change their functions/volume/channel as appropriate. I can tell you that this remote really does eliminate that for me. I press one button and the remote turns just the equipment on that I need and sets the inputs as appropriate. For example, when I am done playing Xbox, I press the button for "watch TV" and it turns the Xbox off, turns the cable box on, and then switches the receiver inputs appropriately. Yes, you can also operate the devices without an activity if that's what you really want. You don't just enter a code and have it magically work. This is a programmable remote that interfaces with your computer. You need to set aside time to program the remote, including getting the model number of your equipment, installing the software and setting up a MyHarmony account. You can change the button functionality, the screen display names, and what the screen controls. I set it up initially and then had to "fine tune" its operation. I had no problems with the installation of the software, however it currently requires administrative privileges to run after installation. This remembers what it turned off and on, so if you use a different remote or operate the component manually, it will be out of sync with this remote. CONS: The text by the buttons is too dark and cannot be read. Some programmed sequences have very long delays due to the default delays in issuing commands. It is not intuitive what causes the delays. The software could provide an indicator of how long the command will take. Four stars because of requiring admin privileges just to run. Otherwise it would be 5 stars.

This has been my first experience with any sort of "universal remote" and I can say with certainty that despite my initial reservations, I can now say with certainty I am very impressed and glad to have this product. Initially, I was a little worried about the complexity of setting something like this up and whether or not it would be worth the hassle of figuring out how to use it. The setup guide that comes with the remote specifies that you should "set aside at least 45 minutes to set up your Harmony remote". After reading this, I put off setting this up until I felt like I had a good chunk of time available to set this up without any distractions for fear of it being difficult and/or stressful. After finally taking the time to set it up, I discovered that I had been worried for no reason and that it was much easier to do than originally expected. The setup process involves obtaining the manufacturer and model numbers for all of the devices you intend on controlling with the remote. I found this to be the most time-consuming part of the whole setup process which is obviously not that big of a deal since all you really need to do is find where it is written on each of your devices (usually on the back or underside). This might be a hassle for some people depending on where your equipment is located and how short your cables are (if you don't have enough slack to be able to pull the device out and look at the back or underside, this might be a bit more challenging) but none of that is the fault of the manufacturer of this remote and it is an expected step when dealing with this type of product so it really shouldn't have any effect on the rating of this particular product. You just need to know that this is an unavoidable step since you need this information to program the remote and you should plan accordingly. Once you have all of the information for your various devices (including how they are connected to each other and which inputs are being used), the rest of the setup is pretty straight-forward and easy because of the step-by-step instructions that are available. All that is left is you need to go to the website provided in the next step of the setup guide and download the MyHarmony desktop software that matches the product. Once the software has been installed, you then open the program and connect the remote to your computer using the included USB cable. The software then walks you through setting up an account and then setting up your devices. The step-by-step instructions were very easy to follow and understand and my remote was up and running in no time. One of the only slight drawbacks I have noticed when it comes to this product is its use with my Xbox One. It took me a little while to figure out which buttons on the remote corresponded with the buttons normally found on my Xbox One controller (for example, the middle Xbox button normally found on the center of the Xbox One controller is listed on the 3rd page of buttons on the screen) but once I figured these things out, I found it actually works rather well and it is nice having a remote like this when watching movies or doing things other than playing games (which I would definitely NOT recommend you try and do with this remote but that should be obvious). Overall this is a great product that far surpassed my expectations in terms of how easy it was to setup and use.

This is my first time using a universal device remote, so some of you reading this may already be familiar with their features. For those that are new to this, I will give you my honest opinion. Before getting the Harmony 665, I was juggling 3 remotes for my current devices in my entertainment center (LG HDTV, Sony HT-RT5 surround sound system, and a Roku Premiere+). It was always a chore whenever I wanted to either turn on Roku or simply watch TV with the surround sound system as to what buttons I had to select on each remote. It was quite a process until I linked up all 3 remotes into the Harmony 665. The first step is to download the MyHarmony program where you can set up the remote. There are many options within the program to allow for a lot of tweaks and customization. It is time consuming but not too difficult to set up everything the way you want it. Not only are all remotes consolidated into this one remote, but within the PC settings you can set up 'activities' to sync to the Harmony. These 'activities' are basically setting up multiple command lines that will automatically perform a series of button presses. All you have to do is press ONE button on the remote to initiate it. For example, I have an 'activity' that will turn on the TV, select the appropriate HDMI output, turn on the surround sound, and turn down the TV volume so it doesn't "echo" with the surround sound system. I have since set up multiple 'activities' to make everything streamlined and easy for my family. Overall, I am enjoying having to deal with only 1 remote and I would recommend this to others.

A great remote to simplify remote clutter

I'll admit that I am tech savvy, but I have a multitude of devices in my living room to control. I have a gaming console, set-top box, AV receiver and a smart TV in my living room and have separate remotes for all of them. The Logitech 665 is the one to rule them all, almost. After going through the software setup process for my different devices and assigning commands such as "Watch TV" "Watch a Movie" or "Listen to Music", this remote is more than capable of doing these functions. For example: I want to watch TV. The remote powers on my television, changes the input on the television, turns on my set-top box and powers on my AV receiver while changing it to the correct input I specified during setup. It assigns the volume control buttons to my receiver, the channel, guide and info buttons to my set-top box, etc. The remote has built in troubleshooting on the LCD display if something didn't work right via pressing the "Help" button. This is useful if for some reason not all of your devices powered on, or it didn't change to the assigned input on your TV or AV device. It can and usually fixes most problems. Setup was fairly simple, and only got technical for the above scenario when it asked for which device did I want to use to control the volume, change the channel, etc. Once configured the Logitech 665 works like a charm. Not only does this replace that stack of multiple remotes in the living room, but essentially makes your more complex device arrangements feel plug-and-play for guests. Pros: Easy to use interface once configured Backlit buttons One remote instead of many for everyday use Huge database of supported devices Control multiple devices with one remote Cons: Does not support Bluetooth. Requires extra configuration for more complex features of some devices. This is a great remote for everyday use, but it's not a 100% replacement for all of your remotes. Keep them in a drawer, but not enough out-of-the-box functionality to put your remotes in storage.

Logitech, aka Logi, has been making universal remotes for years now. The Harmony 665 is their mid-tier model. It has a mini-screen with context-sensitive buttons that are actually really intuitive to use. The remote was able to unify my TV, soundbar, and PS4 into one button press. How? Logi's remote has a favorite use mode, where you can set the remote to automatically turn on your intended devices and to the desired settings, all with one button. When I hit the user-defined button, my tv turns on to the HDMI channel for my PS4, the soundbar turns on, and my PS4 turn on. Not that individually hitting power on 3 remotes was terribly time consuming or detracting, but still, once you get used to it, it's hard to go back. The Logi app was simple to set up, very user friendly, and frankly was quite self-explanatory. No hiccups with any of my home devices at all. All in all, the 665 is a great value for the asking price, and frankly, unless you just have a bazillion devices or a very high end entertainment stand, is more than you need for most homes. I'd say it's the Honda Accord of their remote control line-up. Not the fanciest, not the prettiest, but it makes life easier and is reliable.

    Great price, controlling 4 devices

This remote is pretty cool. I got it on sale I guess for 39.99. I am using it to control my Samsung TV, Yamaha Receiver, Xfinity DVR cable box, and an Xbox One S. I was getting sick of using 4 different remotes and having them cluttering up my end table. It will take some time to get used to different buttons and the menus, but ultimately the Harmony 665 is able to do everything my other remotes were doing. The setup was fairly simple. Signing into the software gave me a few difficulties, but I got it working within a couple of minutes. After signing in, the actual setup of my devices and the activites was simple and intuitive. I look forward to playing around with the various functions. For this price, which is much cheaper than some of the other Logitech remotes, you can easily simplify your entertainment controls.

Not Fully Compatible With Harmony 650

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

PROS - 10 device support - lots of buttons to minimize paging through activity screens CONS - not fully compatible with other model's programming - degraded screen compared to some similar prior models - sharp edges on bottom molding makes it uncomfortable to hold - small blue text on black case is very hard to read - Logitech product support is inconsistent I purchased this remote to replace a Harmony 650. I was assured by the Best Buy salesman that my 650 programming would transfer to the 665 (a Best Buy exclusive supporting 10 instead of 8 devices), but when attempting to do so, only some of each button's activity pages would transfer. After failing twice to get a decent copy, I contacted Logitech support and was told that the 665 will only copy device information, and not button pages (this was only partially correct, as at least a subset of buttons did transfer for each activity). This is not only unfortunate, but puzzling. I originally had a Harmony 700 and loved it. When I had worn the buttons so badly that the backlight was showing through parts that it wasn't supposed to, I replaced it with (now two) Harmony 650s. I never had a problem copying 700 programming into the 650 (or vice versa when I was trying to do some debugging). So I would warn others wanting to buy this remote to replace existing non-665 versions that unless you are willing to do a substantial amount of reprogramming, DO NOT buy this remote as a replacement device. If one is looking to buy this remote as a new device, I would offer some additional cautions. First, to differentiate it from the Harmony 650, Best Buy chose to go back to the Harmony 700 color schemes. This was the only thing I didn't like about the 700, as the small blue button text on the black remote makes that text nearly impossible to read. Like the 650, the 655 uses the same degraded screen compared to the 700 (I assume because it is cheaper). I don't know if the 655 also suffers from the 650's slower processor (another thing downgraded from the 700) as I didn't have a chance to test that. And I wore out two 650s in less time than I did my original 700, so given things like the degraded screen are the same in the 665, I suspect the 665's quality is also generally lacking compared to previous devices. The lower case molding also has sharp edges compared to the 650. While this won't cut a person, it does make it less comfortable to hold. And while Logitech's customer support in some ways is quite good (it was relatively easy to get a live body on the phone to ask about the programming incompatibility), my experience in the past is that they are not always knowledgeable, and when I have tried to work through extended problems with their email support, their response was at best poor (in one case, their software had an incompatibility with computers having DISH Anywhere software on them, and after having me eliminate this software and actually rebuild my system to no avail, they finally figured out it was a bug in their software yet failed to let me know several weeks later when they put their corrected application onto their website). So in summary, the Harmony remote series are in principal very convenient devices with few good competitors, but their quality has degraded with each new model, performance has worsened, incompatibility between devices (and software incompatibility with certain computer configurations) is frustrating, and their product support is not very good when dealing with difficult problems.

This remote fell a little short of my expectations. I was super excited to try one of these with a lcd screen but the functionality wasn't really there. The installation process was a real pain I had to restart the program on my pc several times because it would freeze or it was not clear if/when you should plug in the remote with included usb cable. I have the remote set up with my sony 4k tv and my xbox one. If you use the xbox as a media center, this remote works well. I can also use the remote to navigate some of my tv's menus using the lcd screen. When I compare this to the remote to my tv most of the time I reach for my original remote. If I had a cable box, roku, apple tv etc I can see where unifying everything under one remote would be useful but in my situation I was unimpressed.

Years ago I bought a Harmony 880 and never used it because at the time I was using a video projector/electric screen. The remote didn't have codes for it and the projector was behind me and the DVD player, receiver, cable box were behind the screen. I have since gotten rid of the projector/screen and bought an LCD tv. The old remote now wouldn't work with the AppleTV and Roku. This remote, the Harmony 665 was easy to setup using the software on my Mac and everything works fine with the exception of my old PS3 which I use for playing Blu-Rays. I found that I would need to buy a Harmony Hub in order for it to work with the PS3. Outside of that, the 665 works great turning on the TV/receiver/AppleTV, TV/receiver/Roku, TV/receiver/cable box and still has room for additional devices as they come along.

    Great remote control

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This remote has replaced a TV remote, a Receiver remote, a Tivo remote, and the remotes for a DVR, and a streaming device. I like that the remote is programmed by entering the make and model of devices into a desktop program, selecting options and then connecting the remote to your PC with the supplied cable and then downloading the codes to the remote. As an example of the great flexibility this unit offers, my tv takes a bit of time before it will accept changes to its input port on the TV that you want to be active. The Logitech 665 remote lets you add a power-on delay so that the TV can boot up before the remote sends the code to change the tv input. Another example is that when I switched to an "Activity" that uses the receiver for sound, instead of the tv for sound, sound was coming out of both the receiver and the TV. I was able to easily program an unused button on the remote to lower the volume on the tv. Most of the configuration of the remote is done through the desktop software, but some customization can be done right on the remote itself. The unit can also help re-sync devices to the remote, for example If a device didn't turn on or switch inputs properly the remote asks you if the problem is fixed, and if not further codes are sent until all devices are in sync.

Our Logitech 665 Harmony has indeed brought harmony to our living room by eliminating the need to have multiple controls laying around. This remote control was fairly easy to set up and has been a breeze to use with no lag time for the last few days since we received it. Now one remote control operates 99% of our cable box, 100% of our T.V., 95% of the surround sound receiver (which 95% is remarkable considering the receiver has literally over a hundred different operations), and 100% of our D.V.D. player. Gave it four stars instead of five stars because it doesn't operate the VOICE COMMAND feature of our cable box, but then again nothing is absolutely perfect.
