Bottom line: The Logitech 665 universal remote offers a high degree of functionality in a familiar form. Pros: On remote wizard helps answer questions and resolve issues, easy to setup, works perfectly with my devices Cons: Need to connect to a PC for initial setup Review: Gone are the days of looking up manufacturer codes and endlessly trying to set up the remote! Connect the Logitech 665 to your PC, download the software, enter your hardware model numbers, and the you're done. You don't even need to be in the same room as your devices. If you mess up, the on screen wizard will help you correct the problem. I had zero issues connecting the remote to my upstairs TV, DVD player, and Apple TV 4th gen. Using the remote feels natural as it's designed with a standard universal remote layout. When using the remote, the orange backlighting creates just enough contrast to make the buttons easy to read. Like any new tech, initial setup may be daunting for some older parents/grandparents. However, I was able to get the package open and remote set up in less than 15 minutes.

    Step up from Harmony 350

If you are looking for the best IR remote around - this is it. Great feeling, sturdy keys. Backlit keys. Menu explaining detailed options for your devices. It’s all here, all easy to program. It even controls the backlight on my television. It will NOT operate an Amazon Fire Stick or any other ‘wifi’/Bluetooth remote. You’ll need the HUB based remotes for that. BUT for most cases - this will be the only remote you will ever need.

This remote is easy to configure and use. I have configured it for use on my Samsung TV, DirecTV DVR, Samsung DVD player and Onkyo receiver. Configuration using the Harmony installation site is simple once you put in all of your devices. The instructions tell you to put aside 45 minutes and for a first timer that is about right. I have another Harmony remote so much of my information was saved and I was able to apply it to this new remote with ease. I recommend this for the price and ease of use!

It's Just Okay For A Remote

I've been using the Logitech Harmony 665 for about a week now and if I am being honest, it's a bit of a disappointment. First off, it's dead simple to setup once you get it out of the box. If you have a PC or Mac to connect it to for that initial setup. If you do not then you are out of luck. One thing about the setup I am not overly fond of is the requirement to download and install software from Logitech. The Good: Easy to setup using your computer to enter in the model number of any devices you wish to control. It's not overly large in the hand and easy to use one handed. Decent range from almost across the length of my apartment to control my TV and BluRay player. The Bad: Uses AA batteries rather than rechargeable, which is understandable at this price point. The print on the buttons and front of the remote are small and difficult to see. It does not work with the 4th Gen AppleTV! That last negative is the deal breaker for me. The latest generation of AppleTV uses a bluetooth connection for control and the Harmony 665 is IR only and thus not compatible. The product description clearly states it's compatible with AppleTV but I must assume it means the earlier generation models. If it wasn't for that I'd give this device four instead of three stars. Overall, it's an okay universal remote, just not if you use the most current generation of AppleTV.

If you're looking for an easy to use, simple to setup universal remote, this is the product you need! Unlike other universal remotes, you will set this remote up with a step by step setup wizard by downloading the Logitech Harmony tool. It will walk you through setting up the remote in no time! Simply tell the wizard what devices you have, what you like to do with them, and the tool does the rest and programs your remote. The remote even has built in troubleshooting capabilities for when something isn't work right! Simply press the help button the remote and a wizard will pop up walking through correcting the issue. This couldn't be a easier to use universal remote!

I love this remote. I'm pretty skeptical of universal remotes. My experience with them hasn't been great. Setup is usually a pain and/or they just do not work. The Logitech Harmony 665 is amazing. I was not looking forward to setting it up but it was so easy. As long as you have the model number, it has the machine in its database. It even works for my old VCR! In addition, some of my devices have no remotes because they were broken sometime in the past. The Logitech Harmony basically functioned as a replacement remote for me. So everything from one remote. All in all, extremely happy with it.

This replaced the older model of the same remote. I like it that it is not complicated, easy to set up especially if you are just adding a remote to your logitech account. What needs improvement is the color of the letters, the black color is nice but they should have thought of making the letters visible because with this current model it very hard to read.

Overall it's a good remote, but if I was not tech savvy I would have been hard pressed to setup this remote. It needed to download software from my computer in order to get it going, and the average person might not have a computer depending on their age. Other than the setup process, it's very nice and easy to use once it done.

This remote worked great with every piece of A/V equipment I have. I operated everything from a brand new 2017 Sony 4k TV to my 2005 Sony surround sound receiver. All the functions and buttons that each remote has is represented on this Logitech Harmony remote. I have put all 4 remotes that i needed to watch TV and movies into a drawer to never be used again.

Great for consolidating, but there's a learning cu

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Overall, I am ecstatic over this purchase. I gave it 4-stars, only because there is a learning curve to it & that can be overwhelming to some AND it requires a computer w/ a USB port to program. I've used mine to consolidate my Xbox One (for Netflix, Hulu, etc), my AT&T cable box, my Samsung TV, and my Sony home theater receiver. The setup process was very intuitive and easy (I didn't need the exact "model number" for each item, but it helps). All I did for my Xbox One was to literally type "Xbox One" in the search box & I was good to go (with that item). The rest were just as easy, although I did use the model numbers for those. Once I had all the components I needed, the website uploaded the info to the remote, I tested it & everything worked perfectly. Since buying this remote, I have not used any of the original equipment remotes. In fact, I have removed the batteries and stored them in a drawer for emergency use. Again, like every remote, there's a learning curve & these days, as remotes get more & more high-tech, there are "hidden" menu items that a basic remote won't have, so you'll need to figure out how to access these features (in this case, they are largely in the scrolling window, which isn't really hard to figure out, it just takes a bit). The other "learning" is in the button layout, but that is the same as any other new remote you may come across. Overall, I would recommend this remote to nearly anyone. "Nearly" which excludes those who are not able to learn tech (I.e. My 84 year old aunt, while quick as a whip, is not up to date on tech advancements... For her, I'd get something simple. Of course, I doubt people such as her would ever need to consolidate more than two remotes).

    Works very well, documentation lacking

    Posted .

I was surprised that there is a very brief written manual, that doesn't contain much info except getting you ready for the online setup. Once I did the online setup the functions mostly work well, though I suspect I have much to learn. I have it controlling a Vizio TV, a Sony Blu-ray player, a Bose soundbar/subwoofer, an Arris cable box with gateway/dvr, and an Apple TV4k. They all work as they should. I read one review that this wouldn't work with 4th generation Apple TV because it requires bluetooth not IR. Apple TV 4th generation does use bluetooth, but it also has an IR sensor as well, and works just fine using that so long as the unit is in line of sight. In fact, I'd say it's easier to use than the funky Apple remote. I have yet to figure out how to access the smart functions on the Vizio, but I can get all of that through the AppleTV. The skip forward and back functions when its in TV mode go ahead or back 15 minutes. That doesn't make make sense to me as we use the skip buttons when watching recordings on the DVR to skip through commercials rather than fast-forwarding through them. Hopefully, I can figure out how to modify those buttons to do shorter than 15 minutes, by going online and searching. This anomaly and the poor documentation prevent me from giving 5 stars.

As long as you have a list of all devices & model numbers that you want to control, the setup is a breeze. After setup it even checks to see if all the devices responded and if not searches for a different code without you doing anything until it does work.

    It does work

Bose Lifestyle 135 series III, VIZIO D-Series 50” D50x-G9, Roku Ultra, Sony - BDP-S6700 When adding Bose I used Lifestyle 135 as the model and it worked. The VIZIO did not like the PowerOn command for some reason and only partly responded so I changed to PowerToggle and that worked. The problem is the Activity is not linked to the PowerToggle command so I had to actually make it learn the proper PowerOn from the original remote. There's some way to change the Activity so it uses PowerToggle instead of PowerOn, but I couldn't figure it out. The software did not work due to a driver issue, I ended up with a portable version that was posted in their help forum somewhere. This does work which is quite annoying since I'm on the most updated Windows 10 version. No clue what it was whining about, during install it went fine, drivers recognized, but after when done it had a device issue. Oddly this still existed even when I connected using the portable version so clearly somethings haywire there. Thankfully this thing works and it's great because the other remotes I had stunk.

So I’ve owned Harmony remotes since their first product and before the Logitech buyout. I use a 665 in the bedroom to control a TV, Apple TV 4K, TiVo Bolt, and Vizio soundbar - works great. Just replaced its twin in the home theatre setup with the Harmony Elite / Hub. Not for the faint of heart at $250-350 to buy. The secret sauce...and perhaps the blessing and curse of Harmony remotes is they are VERY programmable. The software has been generally pretty good over the years, and tech support is decent. Plus, they’re so popular you can easily find how-tos online. While it’s sometimes maddening to get things ‘just right’ when you do, it’s amazing. In our case, we have a LOT of home automation and IOT stuff. The Harmony Hub is integrated to everything; Nest, Ring, Alexa, TiVo, Apple TV, Sony TV and DVD, and Hue lights. We can literally run the whole house, inside and outside, from the Elite remote, from the app on phone or tablet, or by voice...our choice. Yes, this is a 665 review, but the point is the software and device library from Harmony lets a PATIENT person do amazing things with their remotes.

    Doesn't do what it should

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I replaced my 10 year old remote with this one thinking technology would be much better now. I was wrong. While it's very easy to setup using the downloaded software on my laptop, it simply doesn't do what it should. If my TV happens to be already on and I click the watch TV button, it will turn off my TV and turn on my Directv receiver and surround sound. Then if I hit All Off to try and sync devices up (off) it will turn off the 2 that were on and turn on my TV. (I can do that with my 10 year old remote). When I click watch TV - and it does work, the volume will not function unless I go into the device menu and select the surround sound and then the volume works. No thanks. How can this thing not detect if a device is on or off or be so precise with device setup then not follow it's own instructions. I will be returning it.

Hi vb13, Thank you for taking time to review. Harmony is an Activity based remote and it tracks the device on/off status when you turn on/off the devices via Harmony remote. If the devices are turned on outside of the Harmony Activity, it will not be aware of the status and will fire the power command when you start the Activity. Hence, the devices getting turned off. We recommend you to use only the Harmony Activities to turn on/off the devices If you've turned on the devices via original remote by mistake and want to start Harmony Activity, cover the front side of the remote using your palm and start the Activity. This will avoid IR firing to the devices and Harmony will be in Sync with the devices. With regards to not controlling volume, make sure that you've selected the correct device to control volume. If it is not working, email the problems you're facing to [email protected] with your Harmony login id. We'll work with you resolve your concerns. Best Regards, Peter (Harmony Remotes, Logitech). My siri remote died so instead of paying $60 for a new one, I bought this for only $50. My main concern was controlling my AppleTV as that is what I spend 90% watching. There is so many things wrong about the Siri remote, so it is nice to have a real remote again. Setup was pretty easy. You have to have a computer handy so I wish there was an easier way, but it worked out fine. It found all three of my devices (LG TV, Sony speakers, AppleTV) just fine. After some fine tuning by turning things on and off with the new remote things are working quite well. Now I have one remote. I do miss having Siri, but I guess I can live without. It is weird having all the extra buttons that I'll never use, but oh, well. It is also nice to have one button to turn everything off.
