    Harmony: An Exercise in Frustration and Futility

    I have owned this product for a year now and even had it replaced once by Logitech support. So speaking from experience, I strongly recommend that you steer clear of Harmony remotes unless you want to spend a LOT of your leisure time dealing with constant issues of unreliable and inconsistent behavior. This is a product with great potential completely ruined by some ludicrous design and/or marketing decisions. The remote can be working perfectly one minute and non-functional the next, even when the light on the hub is green and everything is supposedly ok. Sometimes a power cycle will restore operation but more times than not, I have to factory reset the hub, take it to my PC and restore the configuration. Then I move it back to it's normal location and it may work properly for a week, a day or maybe just an hour. Changing anything in the configuration using the mobile app seems to be the primary trigger, however I have had many many instances where nothing was changed in the configuration and the remote just stopped working. Over the past year I have had to reset the hub dozens of times thus negating any convenience factor that such a product is supposed to provide. It is a complete and utter failure in this respect, there is nothing convenient about owning and maintaining a Harmony remote. Both the original and replacement remotes exhibit similar behavior so I'm left to conclude that the product has endemic issues with the configuration becoming corrupted for no apparent reason and thus requiring the disruptive and routine factory reset process. Also, there is an apparent dependency on the WiFi network connection for not only the configuration process, as expected, but also for normal operation of the remote. Unfortunately the hub's WiFi connection is not reliable despite displaying a strong signal strength in the setup program. I even replaced the router and tried moving it closer to the Harmony hub, to no avail. None of my other dozen or so WiFi devices EVER has a problem with the network connection. Harmony hub offers only 2.4 GHz connections and no wired option. It is a most perplexing design decision that Logitech chose to impose this network dependency when there is technically no reason why it would be needed for local remote operation. The network connection should be required only for active configuration of the device. I have to surmise that Logitech's motivation is a self-serving one and not in the customer's best interest. Perhaps they are collecting usage data (channel changes, etc) to sell to anyone and everyone that will buy it. I have been on the phone with tech support many times and all they ever do is blame my WiFi network and tell me to factory reset the hub. The mobile and PC apps NEVER provide any diagnostic data that could potentially lead to a real resolution. I had to fight tooth and nail to get them to replace the hub. I now understand that they consider this "normal" operation and the support folks had no expectation that replacing the hub would resolve anything. This product has serious and obvious design flaws and the company has no apparent commitment or motivation to correct them. I am done with Logitech and will never purchase another product.

    Great and unique options for tech and light setup. Make sure to have correct tech to match the harmony remote. Does take some time to figure how to set items up.

    Controls tv and more connected to cable. Buttons are not as responsive as my old Logitech controller. Would upgrade to the more deluxe edition

    It's a little buggy, but the most part it works. The physical remote buttons are a little small. App is nicely designed.

    Much easier to setup than older harmony remotes. I like this model because it doesn't need to be charged! The home control buttons are pretty limited to what they can do, and aren't practical for most.

    Got a smart TV soundbar PS4 Xbox and fire stick and this does everything it promises. It's able to seamlessly link between all the different device signals. Highly recommend setting up through the computer first it's faster than trying to get it all done on the app.

    Expensive. I had the 6500 and I was not aware that I needed a computer to set it up....computer belongs to my company so I wasn’t able to do that. I did not use it but it was already taken out of the box so I wasted 50 dollars. Not really happy about it.

    Overall great remote. Takes time to get setup depending on how many devices you are adding. Also takes awhile before remote works without flaws. Seems to need to learn commands over and over.

    Long term review. I've had this remote for a couple years now. This remote is fantastic. Fairly easy to setup, amazing battery life, super durable even in the hands of children who are hard on stuff. Made to last and always works. Love it.

    Great concept, but as I have a sony player it made more sense to have sony remotes. I also prefer to use the assistant or siri with either the sony remote or the apple tv siri remote.

    It's great to have only one remote to search for. With several devices synced with the remote, we were able to customize it for all of them and store the individual remotes elsewhere. I still miss some of the features from my xfinity cable remote, but the pros outweigh the cons. The phone app is handy, too.
