I have never really liked the membrane keyboards, but bought this because I needed a keyboard. So, I found the keyboards with switches for each key. They are called mechanical keyboards, and have comeback because they are popular with gamers.

I took the laptop to Total tech and they could not repair it because of age. I decided to try a wired keyboard, that my daughter suggested. A Best Buy associate recommended this one and it has worked perfectly and was a good buy, too.
