Exceptional Keyboard-- See Hibernation Fix Below

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This is the best quality keyboard that I've used from Logitech. The feel of the keys is much firmer compared to other Logitech keyboards. The layout is closer to a laptop than a traditional desktop: the keys are a bit closer together than in many PC or Mac keyboards. If you're used to wider spaced keys, this board will take only a bit of time to get use to using. One caveat: The keyboard cannot be used to place the computer into or taken out of hibernation. If the computer goes into hibernation and you bring it out of hibernation by depressing any of the keyboard's keys, the keyboard becomes useless--i.e., there is no input from the keyboard to the computer. You'll depress a key, but nothing will happen. But, there is a fix in Windows to get around this. The Fix: Go to Control Panel, click on Device Manager, click on Keyboards, double click on Logitech HID-Compliant Keyboard, you'll see a four-tab selection come on the screen, click on Power Management, and 'uncheck' the box titled "Allow this device to wake the computer." After you've done this, when the computer goes into hibernation or 'sleep' mode, you will not be able to wake it with your keyboard, pressing the keys does nothing when the computer is in a 'sleep' mode. Now simply wake the computer with your mouse. NOTE: if you don't perform the fix and wake your computer with your mouse, the keyboard will work; but making the fix will assure you that no one will be able to render the keyboard 'dead' if a key is pressed to bring the computer our of its 'sleep' mode. You'll learn the ins and outs of the programmable keys via experience. All in all, it's a good keyboard with many programmable functions. By the way, Logitech doesn't have a software fix for the coming out of hibernation--and the one I mentioned above works flawlessly. Had Logitech placed a sleep-mode button on this keyboard, it'd be close to perfect. Perhaps they'll come out with a software fix.

    Cannot handle 3 key presses

PROS Very nice to type on. Keys feel pretty good and responsive, keyboard is sturdy, and quiet. I love the illumination. I think it's bright enough, and overall really feels its helpful in not quite as illuminated rooms. You can press Ctrl+Alt+Delete CONS You cannot press 3 keys simultaneously. Like Shift+W+Space, neither could you press W+D+Shift This keyboard is rendered useless for games; it appears LogiTech wants you to buy their "gaming" series of keyboards to play games OTHER NOTES I'm so glad BestBuy has a return policy. It's a shame, I have another LogiTech keyboard that I use for my Mac, and I couldn't be happier. Everything is so smooth, I love these keyboards. Just don't know why LogiTech felt the need to stiff arm consumers into buying a specific product of theirs. My old HP's keyboard is what I'm using to game now. It was cheap and works flawlessly

Nice and quiet for work, but ...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this keyboard for work. My old standard-issue Dell keyboard was wearing out after seven years, and I wanted to replace it with a quiet keyboard b/c I often need to take notes on the computer while I'm on the phone. Pros: It is indeed very quiet. The design is sleek and attractive and the product is high quality (well made and feels good). I like the full number keypad. The typing experience is very nice, although I will say I've had this thing for a couple of months and still struggle a bit getting used to it. My typing speed is slower now b/c I make more errors now. I finally had to remove the Caps Lock key b/c I was hitting it by accident all the time. And I still have to look down for the Delete key, which I could find by touch on the old Dell. I'm not sure I'll ever type at my old rate. ... There is no USB port on the keyboard itself so if you have a wired mouse you will need to plug it into a USB port on your computer. (If your CPU is on the floor, make sure your mouse cord can reach it!) I find it odd that a wired keyboard doesn't directly support a wired mouse. Last but not least, I wish the "Getting Started" card that comes with the keyboard included a link for where to find the online tech support (which is on the Logitech web site but is limited and for some reason was hard to find the first time I looked for it).

If you're looking for a gaming keyboard...

and you're concerned about jumping or flying or whatever you do in your rpg games and what have you... why don't u look at the "gaming" keyboards instead of giving these ones a negative review? I think that a lot of people don't put down accurate ratings because they aren't acknowledging that they are using a device that's centered around comfort and design more for a typist or someone who intends to do a lot of web browsing or writing. I When first seeing the keyboard I immediately thought, okay, this is more of a keyboard aimed more at saving me from injury and keeping me comfortable when typing. I'd look at a gaming keyboard and know that it was because they're usually far more technical, colorful, often they'll even have some fancy screen and be able to do all sorts of gymnastics... but I just didn't see this as a gaming keyboard. in fact, I was searching for an area that might even separate the two into their own section . If only they had a system in here that helped you to decide according to what you will use it for... a little automated assistant .. :P well I know gamer people usually know more about computers than most typists and what have you but i just wanted to point that out to folks who might forget to take it into consideration. I also found that a few gamer keyboards have caused me to have to really put extra effort when i'm typing sometimes, i'm using one now and it's not bad as one i had before... but i do prefer more fluidity in my keys - i think i'd actually like a keyboard that was a combination or changeable to what you were doing. typing or gaming.. :)

    Great little board!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I do not have any typing training, so I use my own semi-efficient hunt and peck method. This of course means that in the dark, I can have a very hard time getting things typed out properly. I have been using mainly gaming keyboards for their illuminated keys to this point, and that means having some LARGE keyboard with a host of macro-keys taking up a lot of space on my keyboard drawer. No longer! This is a very comfortable little keyboard. It does not have some of the fancy features you get on other boards, like independent media keys, but is wonderful to work at for long periods of time. The illuminated keys are of course a life saver for me, as I really hate having to keep my PC room bright as the sun just so I can bang out some chat responses in quasi-proper English. I wojld definitely recommend this for any user who really likes having the illumination function on their board and does not want to have a huge gaming board eating their desk space.

I bought this keyboard on sale during a black friday a couple years ago and I couldn't be happier. The keyboard feels amazing, is slim, very sleek looking, and the software is great. There are a lot of cool customizing options for the keyboard and how you want it to work for you, and lots of quick-access buttons that can be customized.. The illuminating feature looks great and is very handy in low-light situations. Noise-wise the keys are as quiet as standard laptop keys.

I had the Saitek Eclipse 2 illuminated keyboard, and the t and L keys kept messing up so I got this one. I loved it in the box, and out of the box it is amazing, you can type silently, even change the brightness of the keys. also it is very very slim... which is just cool.

Got rid of my wireless HP keyboard which came with the system but looked more clunky and had battery and performance issues. I can live with the usb wire, as a trade up for the illumination and design. However, if you must have wireless, it may not be for you.

Didn't think I'd like this as much since the keys are much flatter than on a nonlaptop but the feel of them is fantastic. Not slippery at all like some keyboards. I type much faster and I just love the adjustale illuminated keys - not too bright, not too dull, perfect! I even bought one for my laptop as I hate those slippery keys. I just waited until this went on sale and picked it up from Best Buy, my favorite store! Moirish

    Best Keyboard Ever!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Logitech has aced it with this keyboard! The over-all quality is astounding and the comfort level is great. It's the flattest keyboard I've ever used and the heaviest. It's the first I've purchased with the "back-lit" keys and they're adjustable, they have 3 brightness levels. I use it a lot playing C.O.D. Modern Warfare II and it's always stable and stays put, no sliding around on my desk and best of all, playing MW2 in the dark, love that! The keys are smooth and quiet and the keyboard is so flat it doesn't bother my wrists to use it for extended periods. It is a USB keyboard so if you only have a PS2 input you'll need an adapter. Needing this adapter is rare these days with all the USB ports available on desktops. I'm a Huge Logitech fan and this is another great product from them, enjoy!

I always wanted a backlit keyboard and when my old keyboard broke I bought this one. Its so easy to type, the keys are friendly to use and it is not laud. the backlit can happen in 3 different modes from very light to somewhat light. Also I love this keyboard because the cord is fairly long which is very convenient for me. I really like this product

Best Keyboard I have ever had!!!

The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard is everything I expected and more. It really does illiminates my keyboard and I really can see without turning on the lights at night. It really is quiet too. Of course you can still hear the keys but it's not as loud as some of the keyboards I have used. I got mine when it was on sale for $59.99 that's what I call a great buy--I was going to purchase it that week anyway but I was very happy to catch that great sale. I love the keyboard, but I do have one minor complaint--it doesn't have the Cut, Copy, Paste keys. But other that it's great!!!!

    Good Keyboard Overall

This was a great keyboard -- for 2 days. Now its just a good keyboard because a couple keys stopped working. I love that it is super thin, but has a nice weight, and the feel of the keys is excellent. I originally purchased it for use in low-light conditions, and the backlit keys are excellent. But now I am going to exchange it for a wireless keyboard.

    Awesome Keyboard

I bought this keyboard about a day ago, and i've got to say, its AMAZING. I absolutely love the back-light (im using it right now =] ! The design is really high tech looking and the keyboard as a whole seems extremely well built and sturdy. I've only found about 2 MINOR problems, if they can even be called that. one is that the backspace key is shorter than average keyboards, to it takes a little getting used to. the other it that the keyboard is bent in a very slight curve, so if you press down on the middle, it sink in slightly. But other than that, this is by far, THE BEST keyboard i've ever used. Now you dont need to buy a $150 gaming keyboard simply to have the backlight effect.

I bought this keyboard to replace an old Dell that was getting flaky, and installed it on my Windows XP system with no hitches. I didn't bother to install the software that came with it, because it works flawlessly after XP did its thing. I love the lighted keys, and keep them set to the highest brightness. Which is set by pushing the upper right key. There is an "A" that lights up along the lower right border of the keyboard when you press the "Caps Lock" button, and "1" that lights up when you press "Num Lock". I didn't notice any mention of this in the brief instructions provided. There are a bunch of special function related features that are easy to use and are highlighted in yellow. Just press the "FN" key along with the other key and you are able to control a bunch of programs I use daily.

This has to be the most sophisticated keyboard I've seen. It's as much as a work of art as it is a keyboard. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Only complaint is the space bar makes more noise when in use than any of the other keys. But that's ok. I'm using this keyboard on my computer that only has Ubuntu 8.10 x64 installed on it; no windows. Haven't checked to see if they multi-media keys work; couldn't care less if they do or not. The Backspace and Tab keys are a little smaller than most users would be used to, but that's ok. I haven't really had a hard time with that. If you want something sexy for your computer, and usable at night. I would get this one.

I might be picking up a second one soon for my wife, she really likes the back light and the feel of this one. It's a great keyboard, excellent replacement to my ancient (10 year old) Logitech PS2 keyboard I've been using. If you have a Intel Core i7 based machine, there is a weird quirk that might require you to update the BIOS. I have a MSI x58 Platinum SLI motherboard and had BIOS ver. 3.0 on it, had to update to BIOS ver 3.4 in order for my PC to boot in a timely manner. Without that, it would take approx 30 minutes to clear the initial POST screen. If you experience a slow boot time on your Core i7 system, upgrade your BIOS before returning the keyboard.

I'm one of those people who like low illumination at night. The problem is that I can't see my keyboard. I use to buy those cheap keyboards at the computer shows, so I was astounded with the feel of the keys. The illumination is exactly what I wanted. My brother fell in love with it when he visited for the holidays. Guess what? Right after my review here, I'm going to order one of these keyboards for him. Now that's a testimonial.
