A really great wireless backlit keyboard.

I was looking specifically for a backlit keyboard and found this one at the local Best Buy store. It was in the middle price range compared to some of the others. The keyboard has many useful features and not a bunch of extra junk that I don't use, so this has been perfect for me. The battery life is excellent. I've only charged it once in the 5 months since purchase, and we use it everyday. Well worth the $45!

Why I did not buy this sooner is a complete mystery. I have had this keyboard for a few days and absolutely love it. I do not have to rely on the monitor's light source or resort to holding the keyboard to catch that monitor light to type anymore. The keyboard lit up looks like it should be on the star ship Enterprise. The tactile feel of the keys feels like my toshiba laptop. Any micro USB cable will charge the keyboard so heads up. Download the Logitech Unifying software to "pair up" to 6 devices and save on USB slots. One USB dongle will handle 6 logitech devices. My wife loves the keyboard so happy wife makes for happy hubby right guys ;) Look ..... just buy the dang thing and like it. Trust a brother ..... Best Buy price matches so why wait ?

Let there be Light , it even works with a Mac

Let’s face it, first impressions count and right out of the box the Logitech K800 impresses with its sleek design. Its matte black finish wards off fingerprints and the clear bezel surrounding it gives an upscale look. The keys themselves are well spaced and full sized; I appreciate the surface contour of the keys, my fingers rest perfectly on them, much better than a Microsoft or Dell keyboard. While typing, the keys give a muted click and have just enough resistance and spring to them that you can tell that this is a keyboard that's not going to fall apart. However, admit it, the real reason you're interested in this keyboard is the illumination. First off, with a nod to customization, there is a brightness control that allows you to go from off to full on white light and anywhere in between. At lower illumination levels the letters are visible and subtle but when you turn up the light the keys really pop, a vibrant white light and at full power you'll see just a hint of an outline around the keys, really sharp and frankly a pleasure to use in a darkened or dimly lit room. I also like that the functions are lit in a warm amber light making them stand out as well. One other interesting feature is the proximity detector that dims the keys when your hands are away and brightens them as you bring your hands to the keyboard; it’s a nifty bit of magic that certainly aids its ability to conserve energy while being a cool feature. On a final note about illumination, I appreciate that the keys are uniformly lit, from the top to the bottom, left to the right and all points in between; the glow is even, consistent and easy on the eyes. The illumination is the standout feature on this keyboard and Logitech nailed it. Since the K800 is wireless it requires its own power source, rather than contend with AA batteries this black beauty makes use of a built in rechargeable battery that charges with a micro USB connection to your computer as needed. Sure it means having another cord in your drawer but it sure beats AA's in my book. Speaking of connections, it’s very easy to connect the keyboard using the included Logitech wireless receiver, just plug it into a USB port and you’re ready to go, it couldn’t be any simpler. Before I finish my review let me answer one other question, will it work with a Mac? The answer is yes, pretty well actually. Yes the box says Windows and no the layout isn't really built for Mac but I thought I'd give it a try. Connecting it to my Mac was easy, even though the keyboard was not "recognized" I was able to select a generic keyboard and voila, I was ready to go. The last bit I'll say about Mac compatibility is that not all of the function keys are going to work as you'd expect them to and you'll have to get used to using the Windows key rather than the Command key but frankly it’s just not a problem. In a way it’s funny, keyboards, like mice are pretty much taken for granted until you use a really lousy one or as in this case one that's truly exceptional. At first pass, you may say that a keyboard's a keyboard but then you'd be missing out on an upgrade that you'd really appreciate. From the excellent design, high quality fit and finish to the tactile feedback and shape of the keys to its rechargeable power source the K800 is a fantastic. When you factor in proximity based illumination you've got a real winner! This is one upgrade that I'd recommend to any user; now, if only they'd release a dedicated Mace version, so until they do I'll happily continue to use the K800 with both my PC and my Mac.

    Fantastic Keyboard

This backlit keyboard is a great value for the price. It is lasting well on a charge, I am at 14 days. It charges via USB and can be used while charging. Further, up to 6 of these new logitic devices can share a USB transmitter so I am using one tiny transmitter for both the keyboard and mouse. The touch of the keyboard is very nice and the backlighting comes on as your hand move over the keyboard, doesn't even require a touch...nice feature when one wishes to begin to type in a darkend environment as you don't have to touch a key like you do on my laptop. Also, this keyboard is very quiet. All in all a great purchase and I will be replacing all of my keyboards with this model and mice with the Performance Mouse MX.

This is an excellent keyboard that fills several needs on the market. It has quiet, gentle and BACKLIT keys! Rechargeable internal batteries ARE included. Yes this is a cordless keyboard that lights up! It is ideal for laptop and notebook users who complain about the size of their keyboards. It is great for use on a standard PC and has large letters for people who may have a hard time seeing. It has excellent response time and seems to function well in the same room with other wireless devices. The battery life seems to be good after the initial charge. It is on par with my wired gaming keyboard for response time. The keyboard senses motion over the keys before you touch it. This is very nice feature that saves on the battery. I had no problem installing it on several systems without the need for drivers. I installed it on an old laptop with Windows XP and on several other systems up to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. The drivers are probably best if you just download them from Logitech’s website. The ones that come with it are also serviceable. After several days of continuous use there were no complaints or failures. The battery life is more than adequate for normal computer use. Gamers may want to run with the cord installed or at least make sure it is on charge when not in use. I charged it and left it for 4 days and it retained the charge so it will be fine in the office for a weekend. My only complaint is that it comes with a wire that uses a USB port that is there for the sole purpose of charging the battery. It doesn’t allow for wired use so if you are running short on USB ports you may have to wait or remove another device while it charges. This is a very small complaint as most computers have ports to spare.

    Fabulous Illuminated Keyboard

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was specifically looking for an illuminated keyboard. This one fit the bill and seemed the best choice for the price of those I reviewed and had the fewest negative reviews. I chose to change the function keys for the special functions (i.e., e-mail, home, search, files, etc.) rather than using the FN key and the specific function key to perform these special functions. So far that has worked best for me. I like the ability to turn the keyboard off via a switch in order to help save the battery life of the keyboard. However, most of the time I forget to do this and so far the original batteries are still working. The software that came with the keyboard (and mouse that I bought with it), recognized the mouse, but didn't recognize the keyboard. Had to go to the Logitech website to figure out how to update the software so that it recognized the keyboard AND the mouse. No big deal. BEST of all, I LOVE the feel of the keys. Best of any keyboard I've ever used. The unifying USB device is tiny. Barely sticks beyond the PC USB port. Be sure to use one that you have full access to. I first picked on toward the edge of the PC. When I decided to move it to another port, it was difficult to pull it out, but only because I had difficulty getting two fingers around the device to pull it out of the plug. However, when placed in another plug with plenty of room around it, there has been no problem at all. My previous keyboard had larger DEL, INS, HOME, END, Page UP and Page Down keys. So there has been some adjustment to the same keys on this keyboard, which are smaller. But not a big deal for me.

This has been my favorite keyboard that I have ever had. Holds a charge really good. The lights are so great for use in a dark room. The wireless usb receiver is so easy to set up. Plus, I love that I can use the receiver for both the keyboard and my logitech mouse.

I love our new keyboard, I love that it lights up for easy visibility at night. I got it for a good price because I used my $20 BB rewards, can't beat that! The keys feels good to the tough. I like the size, the new PC we got came with a very small keyboard. My one minor gripe is the number lock key does not have a light. I also like the cap lock has a light. I know it sounds so minor, but I missed that with our older keyboard it didn't have a light . Other than that, this keyboard is very nice.

If you are expecting a very high performance mechanical gaming keyboard, look elsewhere. I bought this for my development machine (I type A LOT) It's been about a week, but it has made itself very handy. It's easy to type on, it glows when you need it to which is great for the lower light environments of basements, late night work when you are next to a window, or anywhere where you might just be where it isn't overly bright. I have always been a proponent of backlit keyboards and this is a good one for a typing machine.

Solidly built but not heavy. GREAT battery/charge life. Love that I can adjust the brightness and stand it on the back edge to make more room on my desk, AND Best Buy was $35.00 less than most other sites!

This is exactly what I needed! It looks and works better than I thought. Built in light system has a dimmer and lights goes off when not in use and lights come on when hands are near the keys, very cool! The keys press very softly with ease. The added functions on some of the buttons is nice as well. Get to where you need to go with a press of a button. A bit pricy for me, but well worth it.

The Logitech K800 wireless keyboard is wonderful. The backlit keys are great addition and lights up pretty good. It has a toggle so you can use the amount you want for the keys to stay lit up. The battery is also great, last about 2 weeks without a charge when using it constantly. The keys are smooth and very responsive and no lag at all.

What can you say about a keyboard? This is thin, flat, light and has good reception. I like the on/off switch for the keyboard and the light. The light is only really useful at night, and I do worry about the paint wearing over time leaving only bright keys without letter designations. The extension cable for the receiver is nice. This installed on my Windows 7 notebook automatically and without issue. Connecting and disconnecting as needed has not been an issue either.

    Best Keyboard for the Money!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My new desktop computer came with a very cheap, wired keyboard, I wanted something much better because a good keyboard is critically important for me because of the immense amount of time I spend typing. I was looking at more expensive models until I saw and checked this one out in the store. Everything about it felt right, More importantly, now that I've been using it over a week, I realized how important and helpful the BACKLIGHTING feature is. Prior to using this keyboard, it was a feature I never considered. In fact, I thought it was just a marketing gimmick. After only a week, it's hard to imagine ever purchasing another keyboard which doesn't have this nifty feature. Believe me, once you get used to your keys, and especially the numbers, being lit up, you will love it. So far, I haven't had to recharge the keyboard, so I have no experience with that aspect of the product.

I purchased this keyboard about three months ago and it has worked great. The key-lights are motion sensitive which is cool and saves power. I just charged mine for the first time since I bought it (about 3 months). I use it every day of the week and I honestly thought I'd have to recharge it several times a month but that is not the case. Good product.

Great keyboard with two minor design flaws

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've had this keyboard for a little over a week and save for two simple complaints, I absolutely love it. I love the tactile feel of the keys and the shortcuts (especially that I can adjust volume and have a shortcut to my calculator now!). My only complaints are that there's no light letting you know the Num Lock is active, and the light letting you know the Caps Lock is active sits at such an angle that you can't easily see it's lit while sitting in a normal typing position. You practically have to look straight down at the key in a normal, well-lit office environment in order to see if the indicator light is illuminated. Granted, when you click the Num Lock or Caps Lock it brings up a notification on the computer screen, but I'd like an easily readable light for those functions. In all, I'd give this keyboard 4 1/2 stars, but that's not an option. My gripes are minor. I'd still highly recommend this keyboard to those looking for an upgrade.
