I went to Best Buy looking for a premium keyboard and looked and looked and couldn't find anything but the usual mushy $25-40 keyboard by Logitech & Microsoft. I asked one of the associates and he asked if I'd seen their gaming keyboard; I had not. I had originally picked out a different product with per-key full RGB backlighting. Although that was pretty cool, I was surprised to find out that it actually had two USB cables (one for the keyboard and one for the onboard USB port -- which turns out is just an extension off the 2nd usb pigtail). Though I really liked the keyboard, I realized I really didn't care about the per-key full RGB lighting, and the 2nd USB pigtail really annoyed me (I was connecting it to a laptop with only a single USB port). So I returned it and picked up the Logitech G610. The Logitech G610 has only white lighting, and I *think* it might have per-key lighting options, but that's just not what I really care about, so I've not checked into it. They keyboard is still doing the slow rolling wave as configured right out of the box. I've never been a media keys user, and almost all of these premium keyboard have dedicated media keys. I was surprised how quickly I fell in love with the rolling volume control. I love that it's right here and I don't have to control volume on screen with the mouse. In fact, the media key and rolling volume control are some of my favorites. Gaming keyboards each have very specific make and model of keys in them, each with a different feel. I can't keep track of Cherry (brand) "brown" from "red" and it even seemed that some of the products had Cherry "speed" keys in them (the first one I bought and subsequently returned). Although I can't remember which model keys are in this keyboard, I can tell you that they are particularly smooth and easy to use; especially fast to type on. They're almost too fast; I'm still getting used to the keyboard and sometimes get keystrokes out of sequence, or even accidentally type another key (or double-tap a key) because of how easy this keyboard is to type on. The keys are smooth with no particular tactile or audible feedback. On the other hand, they're also fairly quiet to use. Originally, my goal was to find a bluetooth keyboard (to go alongside my bluetooth mouse) because I didn't want to have to plug anything into my laptop when using it at my desk. The wireless requirement kinda went away when I discovered a number of other devices that I wanted to connect via USB (to a laptop that has only a single USB Type A port), so I pulled out one of my powered USB hubs and now the keyboard is just one of the devices attached to the hub. In the end, I much prefer the performance of this keyboard over the convenience of not having to plug anything into my laptop. The G610, although in the gaming department, doesn't have any of the notable extras that gaming keyboards often have (like the extra rows of function keys, or programmable keys on the left side). This keyboard is very much the traditional 101-key of yesteryear, with the standard 12 function keys across the top, the ESC key set apart in the top left, the traditional inverted-T set of arrow keys and the 2x3 arrangement of insert/delete, home/end, and pg-up/pg-dn, and the convenient 10-key on the far right. I've been using a Microsoft Natural keyboard for so many years (which moved some of the standard positions of keys), so I'm still getting used to where some of the keys are. Seems like I routinely, accidentally hit the F11 or F12 keys while browsing, which of course, do crazy things like go full screen or open debug panels in the browser. Overall, this is a fantastic keyboard with a great feel in the traditional 101-key layout.

    Excellent Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

I've been using the Logitech Proteus Core Gaming Mouse (now called the G502 Proteus Spectrum) for a few years now and I've always loved Logitech's gaming mice. Their track record on Mechanical keyboards has been hit and miss. Some of their previous Orion keyboards have had odd design decisions like concave keys. Also, in a works where Cherry is the ubiquitous choice for a quality microswitch that comes in a variety of flavors, the Logitech exclusive "romer" switches were an odd marketing move. I was considering the Corsair K90 RGB or the K70 but this keyboard was on sale for $59 so I took a chance on Logitech and I am very happy. ALL of my previous worries about Logitech Keyboards have been reversed. The Keyboard has a VERY hefty feel to it. The USB cable is braided and very thick. The lighting effects can be adjusted using the Logitech Gaming software ( I like that there is one piece of software for both the keyboard and mouse). I have played several games and tyed a bunch with it and it feels fantastic though will take a little getting used to since the Logitech K330 Keyboard I am migrating from has a much shorter travel distance on the keys so I will spend a few weeks with more typos than before. Typing feels very fast on this keyboard. It's hard to explain but its almost like on my old keyboard the additional force required to press each key down slowed me down and after typing for a long time, my fingers would get fatigued. Not so fatigued that they hurt or anything like that, but now that it takes almost no force to type, when i go back to the old keyboard it's Night and Day. Great Keyboard, Highly recommended, especially if you can get it under $99 Pros- Plain Black minimalist design (more of a personal preference of mine than a pro for everyone) Very hefty feel, thick rubber feet so the keyboard doesn't budge 2 levels of height adjustment Logitech Gaming Software is intuitive, Macros are awesome Volume adjustment wheel is huge, easy to find without having to take eyes off monitor Cons- No RGB-Doesn't seem like a huge deal but if you game a lot, its nice to load the profile for a game and have certain keys be lit up so you know where all your options are Thoughts- Would be nice if the USB cable were longer for cleaner cable run options for folks with large desks

    Not for Sudoku

Not a gamer, I needed to replace the standard backlit keyboard. The backspace key on my Logitech K740 began malfunctioning after too many online Sudoku games. I use external mice and keyboard with my laptop. Decided to try gamer’s version, designed to handle a lot of abuse. K740 keys are tested for 10 mil strokes, this model for 50 mil strokes. Sudoku uses the backspace key more than all other keys for all other computer uses combined. So my replacement criteria were 1. Resilient backspace key and 2. The backlight. Unfortunately, the most gamer’s keyboards have crazy multicolor backlights. I was happy to find this one with simple white color. And that is just about all positive that I can say about this model. The backlight works in annoying waves. They can be turned off only by downloading software and keep it opened with all startup programs. More unnecessary software clutter. After getting used to the quiet keyboards, this loud clicking model is something that I would need to get used to again. I suppose the abuse proof mechanical keys cannot be made quiet. The rough, fingerprint proof surface of the keys is not the best for my style of quick sliding over the number keys while trying for speed records of Sudoku. Feels like a sandpaper. Also, the high rise of mechanical keys relative to the low rise of touch keys is something that keeps slowing me down. I was ready to return the keyboard when I tried the mechanical rolling audio volume control. What a delightful experience in comparison to holding the volume up/down keys… Just for that feature alone I decided to keep the keyboard. Then I went on to try music videos on YouTube. Dead silence on all my favorites. Only video works. Checked online, found out that this model does not and will not support YouTube videos. Never knew that audio playback function is keyboard dependent. Oddly, the audio with some videos work, some don’t. For my needs, this model is then virtually useless. Returned it with regrets. Still, that mechanical audio volume control should be standard on all external keyboards… I will miss it… A lot… Bought another K740 instead.

There are a lot of mechanical keyboards to choose from these days. Many of them are focused on gaming, with lots of additional features and buttons. Depending on your genre of games, you may desire these features, but if your needs are more mixed usage these may simply be a distraction or affect touch typing. The G610 Orion fills that need. The G610 Orion is a great example of a solid keyboard, good build quality, with a few solid gaming features. Despite being marketed under the gaming name, the G610 doesn't screen gaming. The backlit keys are a nice solid white, which looks very professional. The backlight is adjustable to several levels. It does sport some gee-whizz backlighting features, such as wave, breathing, keypress, and star effect. These are fun, and execute smoothly. The backlight is further customizable through software. While these features are definitely more gaming focused, they don't distract from the core capabilities as a keyboard. The layout of the keyboard is excellent. The core keys are pretty standard. The volume roller is an excellent touch, and much better than a knob or buttons. The Cherry MX Reds are a love it or hate it kind of key - I am getting used to them. But other than a few extra low-profile media keys, there aren't any extra distractions. The casing is plastic, but feels quite solid. If you're looking for a keyboard that isn't RGB flashy with 160 keys - this is a great candidate. Do consider the Reds vs the Browns. I got the Cherry MX Red version on sale, but the brown version rarely goes on sale due to the keys popularity. This is a great keyboard, no matter which key-type.

I researched mechanical keyboards for probably 6 months before deciding to purchase this keyboard. My main purpose in purchasing a mechanical keyboard was to get one I could use for gaming, but also use at work without drawing too much undue attention. For me, the pros of this keyboard are the following: - Keys are responsive enough for gaming, but the Cherry Red switches aren't so loud that I disrupt my coworkers - Keys are back-lit, but the light is clear and not other gaudy colors that would be inappropriate for work (even though the rainbow colors are super cool when gaming) - Keyboard looks pretty generic overall. You probably wouldn't think the keyboard looked strange at all in an office setting unless you were familiar with the big Logitech gaming logo on the top corner. - Gaming mode button is easy to use and convenient - Music controls are nice - The volume control wheel is especially nice - Price point is good - Durability/quality of this keyboard far outperforms any other non-mechanical keyboard I have ever purchased I can't really think of any cons whatsoever. This keyboard is literally exactly what I wanted. I do plan to purchase another Logitech mechanical gaming keyboard at some point that is a bit more flashy, but when I do, I will leave that one at home for gaming and this one at work instead of hauling this one between both places.

Works well as a quality mechanical keyboard - it clicks (there are quieter mechanical keyboards) but some like the clicks - it is backlight - a nice feature, but you must install the (free) Logitech app or it may go into display mode fading the lights or doing bizarre things. - it is incredibly responsive - fast for typing, but half presses you got away with in a cheap keyboard will be detected. A tiny learning curve, but way better once learned. - cord is thick and braided - avoids damage, but makes it a bit less flexible. - no USB hub - some keyboard offer a port or 2, but this does not. Fine, but one feature that would have been nice. - game mode button disables Windows key. A perk for gaming, but u till you learn what it does you might be hitting your windows key repeatedly wondering why it doesn't work. - solid media controls with a good quality feel, especially to the volume roller. All in all, this is a solid mechanical keyboard. I bought it for work, not gaming, and am happy with my purchase. If you want colors or a USB hub included look elsewhere, but otherwise this provides a very solid backlit mechanical keyboard experience for a reasonable price.

    Excellent Keyboard Upgrade

Years and ages, I've used what's referred to as membrane keyboards. They're the ones everyone's machines come with and what you're stuck with at work. Even the "ergonomic" keyboards use the same fixture behind the keys. If you're sick of that nonsense and need something more real, tangible and FAR easier to type on, this is the most no-frills mechanical keyboard you'll find without breaking the bank or getting one of those audacious gaming keyboards with all of the lights and nonsense designs. The white backlight is simple and helpful, the rotating volume control is precise and feels amazing, and the keys are just sublime. Typing is a breeze and it doesn't take much pressure to get what you want. Even if you pound each key out, this keyboard keeps going and going. The only bad thing is that if you don't want to install the Logitech Software, the only back-light effect will be a wave going across the keys instead of a consistent back-light, as it ought to be. Other than that, the USB cable is cloth shielded and the keys can be easily changed, if you need to. I highly recommend this as I use it at work every day and it's survived for months now.

I purchased this keyboard as a replacement for a keyboard I'd had for almost 20 years. A lightning strike apparently killed my old keyboard, so I needed a new one. I had been interested in getting a gaming keyboard, and this one seemed to fit the bill. I wasn't interested in the backlighting, but I must say that I like it. The G610 has white lighting only; the multi-colored lighting might be neat to have, but it significantly increased the price, so I went with the white. The Logitech software allows you to control the lighting, even create custom profiles for different games. The key response is excellent, much better than my old keyboard. I barely have to touch the keys, which took some getting used to. I also like the "Gaming" button, which turns off the Windows key. I was always hitting that on my old keyboard, which would kick me out to the desktop. Sometimes I could go back to my game, but other times it would crash the game and I'd have to reload. Now, I can turn it off and not worry about that happening. Overall, I really like the G610 and look forward to owning it for the next twenty years (barring any more lightning strikes).

I'm a forceful typist, having originally learned to type on a manual. I've used the celluloid keyboards for ages and usually have to buy a replacement every 1-2 years. Figured it was time to upgrade to a mechanical keyboard. I originally considered the G910 but then saw this G610 keyboard for like $50-$60 less. I'm a sys admin and don't really do gaming so I appreciated being able to save some cash and still get a good keyboard. I have been on it for about 20 minutes now and I love it. Took a little bit to get used to for the first 5 mins but now I just fly on it. The resistance is perfect. I love the positive response. I haven't tried the customizable light settings but the default lighting (fading across and cycling through) is a great touch that I find rather soothing and attractive. I can see how it might be a little distracting for some people though so the customization options are nice. Hopefully this keyboard can last a lot longer. I love it!

If you're looking to get into a inexpensive back-lit mechanical keyboard, you can't go wrong with the G610. I have been using it for about 16 months now and have loved it since day one. While it may not have all the flashy bells and whistles that some others do (i.e. RGB selectable color, or special "G" keys), it does it's intended job extremely well. Great precision, great feel, awesome value. The keyboard base is actually much heavier than I had anticipated (like seriously feels like it weighs 5-10 lbs) - which is a good thing. It's hefty. It doesn't feel cheap. It stays where you place it. The braided cord is not only pleasing to the eye, but also heavy duty and of adequate length to have the tower be remotely located. A great product for someone that is venturing into the world of mechanical keyboards on a budget.

Finding a solid build quality back-lit mechanical switched board without a set of macro keys to the left but with a conventional right-side numpad narrowed down my choices. Luckily, the G610 (red) has proven to be an excellent fit for my use. Mechanically this board is the best I've ever used; coming from flagship Corsair, Razer and Roccat entries over the past 5 years. Standard key shapes, conveniently placed media keys. uniform actuation, minimalistic design. Really a joy to use. I've experienced some issues from the software controller, however. Even with gaming profiles disabled and the gaming mode switch off the software was somehow rendering all function keys (F1-F12) useless. I could see it was detecting the presses, and whether mapped as "default" or manually to show "F1 = F1" the presses did nothing. It wasn't until I manually deleted every one of the automatically generated game profiles that the F keys began to work again.

This was the first mechanical keyboard I have ever owned, so I was very impressed with it. The Cherry MX Red switches are a little loud, but just quiet enough for my liking, the only complaint i have about the keyboard is the lighting effects don't always work, the G logo doesn't light up if you have your pc in sleep mode. I don't know if this is just my keyboard or not, it is easily fixed with the Logitech app. The keyboard is sleek but stylish, definitely recommend to someone who is looking for a good keyboard on a budget, I would not pay 120 for this keyboard because of the issues i've been having with the lighting, and Logitech doesn't want to help me figure it out, but other than that, amazing board.

My experience with this keyboard has been very good, but it lost a star for two reasons. First, it is set up so that a "wave" pattern washes across the keyboard lights until your profile finishes loading. This pattern is visually irritating and makes it harder to enter your password, especially a complicated password, since the letters on the keys are hard to see when they're unlit. Second, something went sideways and I had to reinstall the keyboard's software on the computer. It resolved the problem, but for some reason the software installation went very slowly. It took several minutes for it to completely install. But once everything is working, the keyboard looks and feels great. It feels like it should last a long time.

I was looking for Cherry MX Red keyboard and this was a readily available and well-rated option. Since my 16 year-old mechanical was on the way out, I needed a replacement pronto. This keyboard works exactly as it should and the feel is good. The Windows key lockout button is a nice feature for gaming, as is the volume wheel. Negatives: The default sweep lighting is annoying, but can be stopped readily in software or hitting "CTRL-light button". An oddity is that the keys are printed upside down relative to usual keyboards; e.g., the punctuations are below the numbers. If you are a touch typist you won't even notice this. This keyboard will cement my initial rating if it can last at least half as long as my last mechanical.

I love the keyboard I love the price (especislly with a good Best Buy sale) My only gripe is that you must install Logitech software or it will not default to a simple backlight, but a wave of brightness across the keys. While this looks cool in a showroom, it forfeits the functionality of the backlight for style. In the end I’m still glad I bought the keyboard, but until you login you get the default wave of lights reminding me of the one gripe. Simply changing the default to solid bright background even if software wasn’t installed would move this to a 5 star product in my book.

Key caps with two characters, e.g. colon/semi-colon, have their vertical order switched leading to the more than normal grammatical error and that's being a fairly proficient touch typist. LED backlighting is not nearly as bright on both characters in these same keys as well to the point that the secondary character can be barely discernible in low lighting situations. Not bad but not the best for typing, but that's what comes with using Cherry MX Red key switches as opposed to Cherry MX Browns; not a negative, just it is what it is. Overall great quality keyboard and if it fits the bill of what you're looking for than would highly recommend.

This keyboard was on special for black friday and I just couldn't resist purchasing it. I was considering a new keyboard since the stock wireless keyboard that came with my new computer was wireless and the signal kept getting getting interrupted and I wasn't able to type seamlessly during emails. I must say the quality on this keyboard is ten fold better than the quality that comes with the standard keyboard issued with computers. Just keep in mind that this keyboard is alot more responsive and sensitive so there will be a small learning curve as you take this out of the box for the first time. I highly recommend this product and buy it now since the price is almost half off!

Flimsy and gimmicky. $30 for this would've been OK. $100 is outrageous. Had I known I'd be investing in such an inferior product I'd have held onto my money. Collects debris and gunk way too fast. Keys falling out w/in first few days. Hamfisted software. It looks cool, that's about it. The volume scroller is decent, too I suppose. Less than 2 years into this device, missing, broken keys. I have a very light touch, incidentally. Aside from that it's largely a waste of money.

I bought this for my office. This feel of this mechanical keyboard is like the original Dell keyboards from the 90's. The key switch feel is smooth and sensitive so it is less tiring to use. I can type faster and make less mistakes. It's not loud but it's not silent either. It will be heard in conference calls and by sensitive coworkers. I found the default "wave" light pattern to be annoying, but I found that can easily be changed to "steady" by pressing the light key and tapping zero on the top key row--- no need to install bulky software.

Great keyboard. Love the simplistic design, responsive feel of red switch, and the overall solid feel of the build quality. Works very well with the Logitech Gaming Software. The only problem/drawback is that the LED lights will not turn back on if the computer sleeps or shutdown when the LED is turned off by pressing the LED button on the keyboard; only the G symbol lights back up. The problem can be fixed by reseting the computer after turning the lights on via LED button. Does not really bother me because I use the lights just to see the keyboard at night with the room light off.
