I must admit, I had set the bar rather low before viewing Lone Survivor. I knew the story of Marcus Latrell, but even after seeing the trailer, I didn't want to give this one a chance (being rather fatigued with war movies lately). I now know that my resistance was misguided. This is a well made, well acted portrayal of these events. It holds nothing back, and puts you right into the action. It is tense, tragic, and ultimately triumphant. Recommended.

To anyone that is looking for "TRUE STORY", that is over the top drama with inspiring raw human emotion than this film is for you! This film is based on the eye witness accounts of the "Lone Survivor" himself (Marcus Luttrell). Director "Peter Berg" specifically used "Luttrell" on the set during the making of this film for actual & factual evidence of what truly took place during the military operation in Afghanistan. This film provides extremely graphic & detailed proof of the unfortunate events that took place during the military operation "Red-Wings". But the film also provides an excellent view on the resiliency that the soldiers of America's Armed Forces have, and the jobs that they voluntary signed up to do. I thought that this movie was outstanding!

very good movie, keeps your interest and it holds the story line nicely

This is a great film, easily one of the best I've seen in the past year. It's based on a real-life story of 4 brave Navy SEALs that were ambushed by the Taliban when their mission was compromised. The gunfights were intense and often painful to watch since you always kept the fact that this really happened to these fallen heroes in real life. It's amazing that one soldier survived in order to tell the story and have has fallen brothers honored. They added some fictional scenes to the story that were not from the book. That's the only drawback, but Hollywood must have its way.

This is a very good movie about a real event. When I first heard about Mark Wahlberg playing Marcus Luttrell, my first reaction was...What? He does a very good job along with the other actors. I read the book "Lone Survivor" a couple of times before the movie was released. As with most movies taken from books, there have been changes made to some events, so it's not completely true to the book. I've been involved in some events involving Marcus Luttrell & the family members of another team member, so this movie was hard for me to watch. Never Quit, Never Forget ORW 062805

Story of Special Forces operators in Afghanistan on a mission that goes wrong. The bond of these men and the sacrifices they are willing to make for each other is breathtaking. While I suggest reading the book this movie is based off, it holds true pretty much throughout. One of the few movies recently that has made my eyes leak a bit. The love these men exhibit for their fellow team members is on full display. This is not a caricature of these men, but an effort to present them as close to reality as possible. One of the best films I have seen in the last 10 years.

Knowing the true account of what took place I can't say enough how well this movie was made to depict the events of Marcus Luttrell's survival. Not to take away from the movie, but there was a lot more to his recovery than shown but they can't put everything that took place in a 2 hour movie. Wahlberg is a great actor and plays the part of Luttrell very well, it's just that Marcus is 6'5", 265 lbs and Mark is 5'8" and 175 lbs. I would urge anyone seeing the movie to read the book first, it will give you a much greater appreciation for Lone Survivor.

Navy Seals movie, Action, suspense, adventure. Highly addictive.

Lone Survivor is the true story of Marcus Luttrell and his Navy Seal team whose mission is to either capture or kill notorious Taliban leader Ahmad Shah, in late June 2005. Lone Survivor is probably one of the most realistic war/armed service films who will ever view. I recommend this film for fans of true stories, military stories, and war films. The film was intense. The film does everything that a film should correctly. Everything is near perfect. The pacing, acting, directing, and the story. This film is highly recommended. Five star rating.

An excellent retelling of the doomed mission to capture Taliban leader Ahmad Shah in 2005. Film follows a Navy Seal team from their initial deployment to their unexpected discovery by local civilians. The choice the Seals make with the lives of those civilians forces the team into an extremely long and vicious firefight that the filmmakers do not shy away from depicting. Researchers have said the story stays relatively true to the actual events (while compressing them), but the film is unrelentingly violent, so it is not for all viewers.

This movie comes from a true story and book from one of our nations heros, a Navy seal who was injured in combat while several of his team mates died in the mountains of afghanastan. While it is not deep in the sense of an Apocolypse Now, it is more human in that the things that fail these men are the types of logistics and random events and the rules of engagement in the theater. Despite that, for those who glorify war or do not understand exactly how freakishly tough the U.S. Navy Seals are, this is a great movie correct their mindset.

This is easily the best combat movie ever. Attention to detail is remarkable. Peter Berg did a great job with this film. The story is fairly accurate compared to the book until after the battle. Then it gets Hollywood. The film has several cameos by Marcus Luttrell. He was present during a lot of the training and some of the filming. If he signed off on it then you can feel really good about how accurate it is during the battle scenes. I would recommend this film to anyone who loves America and the military members that keep it safe.

Seen this movie in theater But have new Dolby Atmos DTXS Home theater system with overhead effects which this Disc supports which means must buy. Outstanding as C130 flies overhead as it puts you right there you will feel the plane as it passes over you. The helocopters with overhead effects will make you say wow if that was not realistic as the effects are now not just in front but overhead and all around the room. You will be looking up for the planes and helos totally new experience.

Needless to say I LOVE THIS FILM!! Mark Wahlberg and Ben Foster kick butt as does most of the cast. The courage of our men and women in uniform never ceases to amaze me. This movie is a stark reminder of the price that many of them pay.....RIP. On a technical note, I purchased an OPPO 4K player a couple of months ago, to go along with my 55" Sony XBR 4K TV. The up-scaling of my Blu Rays is incredible and the few 4K movies I have purchased are awesome to view, including this one.
