The Longest Day (This is a understatement)

With many great actors and scores of great footage. The days leading up to one of the greatest landings of World War II, is given to the world with insight on how atrocious war really is. It gives you personal accounts of both sides of the conflict, what key figures took for granted and what resulting bloodshed was made. The actors are fantastic, the war scenes realistic and frightening. This has been a highly rated movie for years and today it still holds the torch of why great movies are to be viewed and viewed once again. If you are not into military war movies then you need to view only to understand what ours and other nations have gone through to make the world safer.

I'm in my mid-40's and have gotten to the point where I can no longer keep up with the summer blockbusters (nor find myself caring). In a quest to discover old movies, I started with the Universal Monster Series and have now moved on to older war movies. I enjoy reading and watching things about WWII and picked up this movie because I knew it was supposed to be a great one. It did not disappoint. Great movie that I can't believe it took so long to watch. Will definitely be watching this one again..

As a War Historian I am very critical of movies made of combat accounts, but this one is Factual from Both Sides of the conflict and is excellently done. Originally shot in Black and White it is one of the supreme classics and must have of the account of June 4 , 1942 and the happenings which lead up to it. If you don't have it get it, rivals Tora Tora Tora for factual events by both sides. World War II was and still is the most important global event of the 20th century.

I think that "The Longest Day" was one of the greatest classic war films of all-time and it was also one of my favorite classic war films of all-time. I have seen and enjoyed this film several times and I also think that "The Longest Day" had a lot of entertaining, exciting and enjoyable action, mystery and suspense including an amazing and original historical storyline.

DDay from a Soldiers point of view

Filmed in black & white in 1962, this movie tells the story of D-Day from the point of view of the soldiers rather than from the generals. This movie lets you see how individual soldiers were reacting and their enthusiasm and professionalism even when facing terrible risks. Be sure to watch extras.

One of the best WWII movies of all time. Great cast and well written, not as gory as most recent war films. I remember watching this on TV when i was a child and was hooked and always watch it each year. Great respect to all the brave men and woman who served to protect freedom. Great WWII film to add to your collection.

If you have not watched this one, and are a fan of WWII movies then you should Love this one. I have it first then Band of Brothers as the best of the WWII movies made, and there are some other great ones up there very close to this one, but The Duke and Fonda, and so many other Stars make this one over the top, it has kept me watching it over and over for so many years, its One you should Not miss...!!!

    A Great Epic War Film

This movie has every leading man, and woman from the era that this was filmed. I prefer The Longest Day, over Saving Private Ryan just because there isn't the blood, and gore that was in Saving Private Ryan. I still like both movies about the same, historically The Longest Day is probably closer then Saving Private Ryan.

Classic war film that tells the story of the greatest generation that stormed Normandy in 1944. There are historical inaccuracies and the acting is superb! Too bad there is not a digital copy. I ended up buying that through Amazon.

This is a very true to life representation of D-Day without the gore of more recent movies. It goes into the planning through the first days of the invasion in a very believable way. The cast of actors in this movie is star power and it shows without any one actor overshadowing the rest, a true ensemble cast all playing their parts as the real soldiers did.

I can still remember seeing this movie in the theater as a kid and it sure was a long movie. With all those stars in it what was not to enjoy. After seeing the extra features , you can really appreciate all that went into making this movie as well as the planning involved in the actual invasion. This Blu-Ray really looks good even though shot in black and white.

This was the first film of it's kind and really set the bar and established the template for the all star epic battle film. This films was the best of them all and was followed by such films as A Bridge Too Far and Battle of Brittain - but neither of those matches this one. This is the rare film where the total is greater than the sum of all its parts.

Purchased as a replacement for my DVD version. Folks have nitpicked on details but, remember, this is a movie not a documentary. It's close enough for me. Usually end up watching it once or twice a year.

Great adaptation of Cornelius Ryan book "The Longest Day" . Should be watched every year on June 6. It is sanitized enough for a kid too see as it doesn't truly depict the historical accuracy that was inflicted on the first to arrive on the shores of Normandy.

This is an excellent war movie if you like history of the WWII D-Day invasion, The movie is filmed in black & white which adds to the drama. There are many stars sort of who's who at the time. The movie incorporates action scenes from each of the breaches and obstacles encountered, Well worth the investment and Blu-ray to boot!

I have always loved is this movie. I first watched this years ago when I was a kid and I always wanted to own it. the action scenes are great and the story is one of the best and the actors do a great job. The old movies of the past are the best the black and white films of the past seem to me to be the best.
