It is a filter. If it fits your fridge, get it. Works just fine, this is not a reverse osmosis quality, but is a bit better than tap water.

Installs easily. The only frustrating thing is you have to dispense something like 2.5 gallons before you can start drinking the water. That seems like a lot.
