Terrible quality, terrible customer support, fees!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used magic jack for several years. From day one I've had terrible service (dropped calls, when calling my MJ number, can't hear the caller, trouble dialing out, terrible voice quality). I have replaced my magic Jack device, later upgraded to two newer devices and still no improvement. My internet connection of 25/5 is great too, which they insisted was slow. MJ device connected directly to the router. I was very patient with the (chat) tech support which is most likely located outside of US and seemed to copy/paste pre typed responses that did not make any sense. When I signed up for Magic Jack service I was provided Terms of Service (TOS) that I had to agree to in order to proceed with the service. Nowhere in the TOS it stated that I must also review and agree to what is listed in Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs). Right now after many failed attempts of improving my terrible Magic Jack phone service. I have no other option but switch to a different career. When I requested a phone number port out, I was told that I must pay a port out fee of $30 as listed in FAQs. Any attempt to discuss a waive of this fee was unsuccessful and the support agent simply referred to the FAQs and ended the chat. I would strongly discourage anyone from using Magic Jack, do your research there are many alternatives with much better phone service quality and better customer support.

New magicjack delivers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the new 2014 magicjack plus. A little bigger than previous model. The bigger size though, brings better product. Call quality is much better and clarity is improved even further. Home phones are a dying breed, but magicjack is keeping it alive with such a great product for that price. And I have to admit, I love having a homephone. Cell phones are great, but at home, I just want to put it away and rest my eyes from the display. A definite buy

Very bad product, annoying serivice, poor quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This buy was not a best buy but a poor buy. When you try to make a call say to your credit card or a phone card number and dial the digits the magicjack does not transmit them correctly. For a month or more before your account is due to be renewed you get annoying messages every time you dial even though you have more than a month before your account comes up for renewal. When you contact customer support they simply say you have to renew for the message to go away. A request to turn off the message and that I will renew when the time comes is not agreed to. When I work from home and a customer asks me to call their conference line number, magic jack does not let me dial that number and instead asks me to purchase minutes to call a conference call line. For no reason it disconnects from the internet even though my computer network connection is working fine and I have to go through multiple disconnect and connect and reboot of the device before it starts working. And the most annoying thing is the call drops. Irrespective of whether I am calling a magic jack number or a non magic jack number the call drops right in the middle of a conversation and multiple times and I have to redial. On important conference calls I loose valuable minutes during the call. Dont buy this product.

Very UNACCEPTABLE BILLING policy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Ok, overall, the thing works. But today I am a bit tweaked. I paid for some pre-paid minutes to call France from the US, yet couldn't find a list of my call history. Today I simply asked the on-line MJ chat rep how to get a detailed list of calls that I have made (i.e., day/time, # of minutes, and rate charged per minute ) so I could audit my pre-paid bucket of MJ $. After forever waiting for a chat reply, the reps reply was, "MJ WANTS MY LAWYER TO CONTACT THEM" and I would need to issue a "Subpoena". Huh??? And this was the chat manager, not some rogue MJ policy and night-time law student. The manager even repeated that I would need a "Subpoena". Huh??? I have the whole chat copied and screen-printed. I guess I needed a laugh today...thank you MJ. :) On another note, it seems like whenever I am on any MJ call for more than an hour, MJ drops the call and I have to re-dial. I have great bulletproof internet, so this is a bit worrisome.

Very, very poor support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a year of working with the chat on line support I still could not get the mobile app to work. It only worked about half the time, and the voice mail is a joke.I ported my # to MJ for $25. At the end of the year I had to pay to keep the number. When I decided to leave it cost $32.50 to port the # out to my new provider. Since I have about a year on the contract I tries to get another "free" number. I will have to pay $10. for the "free" #. It works OK on the hard wire, and fax, but forget the mobile app and support.

GREAT VALUE, GREAT PERFORMANCE!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Magic Jack Plus from BestBuy for $49.00 It took me years to overcome my reluctance to use VOIP after a bad experience I had with Vonage years back, that I paid through the nose and received bad customer service, sporadic connection and penalties getting out of it. MagicJack connection was a breeze, I got to pick my number, and the service is excellent. For about $30 a year I get unlimited calls, caller ID, notifications, voice mail, the works! No landline compares with this service, and at THIS price. THANK YOU MagicJack! Eternaly grateful, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to all!

Don't bother buy this one, not reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't waste your money on this one. Intended for dedicated fax line only to have to re-send several times due to poor line quality. I have contacted technical support and they seems to hide several important technical information, and there is no way anyone can configure the networking setting on this device which is unacceptable. If your network relies on static-IP configuration then this won't work on your system. The indicator lights does not have label on them to represent what the lights were for (Useful if doing troubleshooting). You won't find any on their website. A big fat thumb down.

Times Have Changed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Eighteen months ago I bought this product and it worked well for the most part, that is, until it stopped working a few weeks ago. It would seem they have discontinued their basic model and $20 per year service. Now they are selling the equipment for twice the price and charge $60 for 6 months service. Forget about using the Live Chat feature online because you will not get help if their equipment stops working which is what happened to me. You can not get a real human being on the phone as that is not an option. Nor will you get a response if you send them an email. Due to the total lack of customer service, I would not recommend this product.

Worst customer service I've ever had
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is undoubtedly the most arrogant company I have ever dealt with. I bought MagicJack to use on international calls, some of which I needed to buy "credits" for using my VISA card. MagicJack wouldn't accept my credit card because I was in a "foreign country". #That's why I needed MagicJack!# My bank and I did a three way call with MagicJack so my bank could tell them it was an authorized charge on my credit card. No results. Repeated chats and calls to their customer service department ended in them intentionally disconnecting me. They said THEY would contact me once they determined my credit card was legitimate. #Why do they feel they know more about the validity of my credit card than the bank issuing the card does???# That was 5 months ago and I haven't heard from anyone yet. I even wrote the president of the company and didn't hear from them either.

When It Fails, Good Luck
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Used the Magic Jack For a couple of years with no problem. I got the plus version a few month's ago and it worked fine through the router for, say three months. Suddenly, the phone would drop calls and then died completely when the router was used. I ascertained the problem was in the router section of the hardware. Customer service would send me through the same "diagnostic" hoops again and again. Each time I called, even though I had a reference number the tech would start as though nothing had been tried before. They would neither fix the problem nor replace the device. Check on line for how this is a constant complaint about MagicJack. I must have spent over 10 hours with them and will have to discard the device.

Hidden Fees and Limited Service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They don't say anything about it on commercials, packaging or in the sign up process but this less than adequate service hits you up for transfer fees and conference calls. Do not use this for business or home office. It's a minimum of $40 a year... not $17.99.

Very BAD support/customer service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought in Oct 2013. From the first day I registered this product it has been a nightmare! Credit card bill showed doubled billed. Several chats with C.S: "useless". Filed a claim for one of the double billed amounts. 6 weeks later I am refunded both amounts. I then try to buy another 5 year contract and I am denied. More "Chats" told me my account was "In Review" and wait. I explained the fault was on their end as I had only disputed one of the doubled billing amounts, but they do not make mistakes! After 3 months my account is still being held to ransom, Feb 14 2014 filed a claim with FCC, mj tells FCC I purchased a 10 year contract! I must pay $27 for reinstatement.Still not resolved 6 month contract up April 21. DO NOT PURCHASE. Cut my loses, went with Skype Worldwide contract, works on all devices!

Better than two tin cans and a string.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Live in area code 540 will not allow you to make long distance calls that is only 25-60 miles of where I live. Message comes on telling me to call Magic Jack to purchase prepaid minutes so I can call into these areas. Customer service is terrible . So It's bad when you have to purchase extra minutes, that have thousands of numbers in these areas.

DO NOT BUY AND SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! - Zero Stars
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried this for a year. I finally accepted the fact that MJ doesn't work! I got frustrated when the person who I was calling said, "I can't hear you, you're breaking up." MJ doesn't have phone support so I spent hours with online chat to fix the problem but they weren't able to fix the problem. $170 is my finally cost for trying out MJ. What a waste of money and time!!! Cost of MJ Plus - $70 transfer phone number to MJ - $32 transfer phone number from MJ - $32 transfer back to TimeWarner - $36 When it sounds too good to be true, it is!!! Save your money and don't even try it.

MJ performance is no longer reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used MJ for years. My service keeps falling off line since I went to 2014 plus model. Others have the same problems even on the plus. You have to power down the unit for it to reconnect. Do not make this your main phone service. The support staff's intelligence is truly artificial. Wait for MJ to get their act back together.

Hidden Fees
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product may work to specifications but there is a porting fee for your number and another porting fee to remove their service. These fees are more then the price of device.
