Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the 65" Compact Advanced Tripod's sturdiness, light weight, compact size, and value for the price. Many appreciate its stability and ease of transport. However, some customers expressed concerns regarding the placement and functionality of the handles, and the lack of a built-in level. Overall, the positive feedback outweighs the negative.

    Disappointed with THIS Manfrotto tripod.

Why Why Why didn't Manfrotto test this more? Really disappointed. I am giving this tripod low scores, I had high hopes for this tripod. It was purchased for frequent use and needed to be affordable, durable and easy to use. Not applicable here. Legs: The telescoping sections were too tight to open, they were inconsistent, some were fast, some slow, too slow, I had to push hard to open or extend then to close two sections was nearly impossible. *PLUS side: Legs are strong, even down to the smallest. Leg Clips: The clips to allow for leg extension were awkward to open and certainly cannot be opened for further expansion or shortening while the camera is in place. There are many times to improve a shot you have to extend or shorten the height. (Even the cheapo one I have allows for this) (No one would want this before during or after any kind of shoot.) *I will try the screwing type in my next tripod. Feet: The feet can be slippery on most surfaces. I did see their shape before purchasing, but again, hoped Manfrotto would make secure feet for a variety of surfaces. *I will be getting adjustable feet, rounded with the metal point in my next. Handles: The two turning/adjusting handles (that is what I call them they must have a special name). are placed very close together. I had trouble adjusting the pivot angles no matter what I did. To turn up or down, sideways...either case, using one in each hand was awkward and they competed for space making impossible some of my shots with my DSLR. One of the handles does NOT LOCK completely and the camera tilted to the right side every time. If I turned it too much more, it seemed it would break. Carry Bag: The nicely insulated carry bag included seemed perfect at first. It has the Manfrotto logo. It has a protective thickness and was also dirt repellent as I used it. BUT it only had thin drawstrings as the carry handles. The skinny draw STRINGS were the bag closure and over the shoulder strap. VERY uncomfortable and NOT at all the type needed to carry this tripod around. They need wide cushioned straps for a Manfrotto tripod, especially for the nearly $90 price-tag. You may think this is a small detail, but when you carry your equipment around all day those strings will no doubt hurt your shoulder. Would need to replace the straps or buy a new case...If not for the drawstrings, the case was GREAT. Will be returning this Manfrotto tripod. It was my first from this well known highly reputable brand, world-wide. This was to be my go to tripod for my daily photography. I have some more to add, but this disappointing product has worn me out, now I have to return it and find another one. THIS TIME I WILL BE VERY PICKY. For that price, one can find a more suitable tripod. Just decide your priorities and if possible GO TO THE STORE and try them out. Bring your camera, open and close the legs, and ask how long you get to test it in the field after purchase. Make sure they will not charge you a re-stock fee if you really do get it dirty hence "in the field". Good luck. I will add some more comments when I finalize my evaluation. If anyone else loves this tripod, great. Want to buy mine?

This tripod is compact by its design (from min ~17" to max upto 65"). Weight is moderate. The BB-name 'Manfrotto - 65" Compact Action Tripod' is little matching with those of manufacturer, it is 'Manfrotto - 65" Compact Advanced'.

    Great tripod for smaller camera

I bought this tripod about a month ago and so far have loved every feature about it except one. The only "complaint" I would have is that there is not a level on it anywhere. It wasn't a huge deal because I bought small level that can go on the top of my camera if needed. Other than that everything is great. You can't go wrong with Manfrotto.

Decent for cameras - DO NOT BUY FOR VIDEO

I bought this after using a friend's $600 Monfratto tripod at a video shoot. I knew it was smaller and cheaper, but in the store it felt like it had good build quality and function. For a camera/DLSR, it would be fine - lightweight, easy to open, easy to stow. But for Video, it is TERRIBLE. What I didn't realize in the store was that the panning head has no lock. Instead, they have the panning head have a high coefficient of sliding friction (layman's term - it takes a lot of pressure to pan left or right before it "slides"). For a Camera taking stills, this would be acceptable. For video shooting, it is a disaster. Took it to two video shoots of live performances and the video is all janky and wobbly every time I tried to pan left or right. I tried to use two hands to stabilize the head while panning, and I even took the camera off and just rotated the head around in circles dozens of times trying to loosen it. I'd return it but I'm past the return period. I'll try to sell on Craigslist to a photographer. It is a shame. Again, VERY lightweight and good build quality for the weight. Would be perfect while hiking to not take up too much space or weight. But that pan head - UGGHHHHH!

I purchased this after returning two tripods. One of the two cost $200. This one is a perfect hiking, traveling tripod. It has great height and stability. The legs extend out and are very strong even the last one. I like it because when I am taking photos of the moon I don't have to bend over and try to focus it. The handles make it easy to change the position of the camera. Great all around tripod.

    Not worth the money

I decided to spend a little bit more but it was not the right decision. The handles to move the camera around sometimes get stuck making it difficult to operate them. I ended up buying a cheaper one that it is so much easier to use.

    AWFUL

This was incredibly disappointing, especially after reading other reviews. It doesn't lock in place; even with just the camera body and a 18-55mm lens, the camera slides. That can't be too much weight. The handles to lock movement in each direction block each other. Finally, the bag that was included for storing the tripod was too small. This was a huge waste of $99.99. Considering it is a Manfrotto product, that's even more disappointing.
