I had heard about this series and had never had a chance to watch them when they were on TV. I am glad I got it as it is really interesting.

The movie switches between the present and the future. The present shows interviews and actual film footage on how we are currently working on the technology to eventually get us to Mars. The future is a fictional story based on reality about an international crew that must land and set up a habitable base for future crews that would be arriving. Of course not everything goes as planned and the characters are likeable and the story entertaining. This is a purchase that I can and will come back to and watch again.

Real Mars facts interlaced with fictional mission

Some people didn't like this because it was trying to be two things at the same time...real and fictional. Based on the book 'How We'll Live on Mars' by Stephen Petranek, this Ron Howard produced series in conjunction with the National Geographic is a nuts and bolts fact fest along with a pretty realistic Mars mission. I found the whole thing fascinating and enjoyable.

This seems to be a well done fictional docudrama type production. I've only had a chance to watch the first episode so far. My question is, where is the rest of the series? This is just season 1. How many seasons are there and why don't Best Buy offer them? Best Buy had better take warning. With their abandonment of 3D, and their shrinking stock of videos, they are going the way of Toy's R Us!! I DO NOT STREAM!!

This show is fantastic. It seamlessly blends real interviews with members of the science community with a drama TV show type depiction of the first manned missions to Mars. Amazing imagery, vast learning from real science, and entertainment. My only complaint is the score, of which I am not a fan.

A fresh perspective on Mars colonization.

This series makes colonizing Mars seem almost impossible ... ALMOST. In the end, we're convinced it won't be easy ... But it's POSSIBLE. There's a dash of soap opera, and (unfortunately) you have to watch the "extras" to understand HOW they make air and water. But this is a fresh approach to an old theme, and well worth a watch!

Missed this when originally broadcast, now I'm glad I waited. No commercials make it flow. Feature film quality effects and acting make for a most compelling true to life story of going to Mars alongside just the right amount of current Space X documentary to make it educational. Only watched one episode so far and already worth the price.

I personally think that this proverbial "man will eventually live on mars" jargon is futile and hopeless, however this is a very interesting approach using scripted entertainment interspliced with actual advances in this hopeless endeavour!

This movie asks the question what would traveling to Mars entail. It answers it with a mix of dramatic fictional footage of a crew arriving on Mars, and current footage of astrophysicists and other scientists talking through the problem. I was surprised how much there was of the former than the latter though, I would've liked a better mix

This drama / documentary type series takes place in 2033 as we are attempting to colonize Mars. The Blu-ray has about 2 hours of added content that the broadcast series did not include. I found it very entertaining as a fictional depiction of what the future might, or might not hold for those who will be around to live it.

I picked this up for 9.99. What's neat is it goes between a made up story about traveling to Mars in the future, but then interweaves real viewpoints from scientists from today. Worth watching.

Sometimes, sci-fi requires an intentional suspension of disbelief. That's not true in this case. Like the book and movie The Martian, Mars seems more science than fiction, more news than fiction.

Very interested in sci-fi space stories and this one is just a cut above the rest as it not only tells a story but also has great clips about today's technology to accomplish these fantastic feats!
