Received the Marshall - Acton II Bluetooth Speaker - Black and it came very well packaged. After unpacking the Acton II I was surprised by the small size, it was a little smaller than I thought it would be however it is a very cool looking Speaker, looks vintage retro and yet sophisticated. Placed the speaker on top of a solid wood cabinet and I’ll have to say it became a center piece, looks great. Now for the best part, what it was designed and built for, sound. Set up is simple; plug it in, turn it on, download the Marshall Bluetooth app and your done… Well not quite done yet. You’ll need to open your favorite music app and start your music. It is really that simple. When I look for a speaker I listen for one that will play any music, on low volume, and still have incredible sound, the Acton II does just that. On higher volume you still have that clean clear crisp undistorted sound with nice bass. I’m sure the three dedicated amplifiers that power the dual tweeters and subwoofer are in part responsible for creating the great sound. You also have nice controls on the unit to adjust the bass and treble. I tend to use the Marshall app because you have more control over the your sound. I’m shocked at the sound this beauty can deliver and the Marshall Speaker has become a Wow factor for friends and family, they love the looks and the sound. We have some high-end sound in our home yet this has become my “go to” for music. I’m very critical when it comes to sound and I do recommend this speaker.

I previously used a different Marshall speaker while staying at an Airbnb and was impressed with the build quality as well as sound quality. I had high expectations for this device, and it did not disappoint. I am not a sound expert, but in my opinion, the sound quality on this device is great. The physical controls on the device are also very nice for changing the Volume, Bass and Treble. Setting up this speaker was very straightforward and I had no issues. I was instructed to download the Marshall Bluetooth app, which was needed to finish setting up the device. The app performed a firmware update on the speaker and then I was able to use it. It was great to see that they can update these speakers if ever needed. I was also glad to see that Marshall is keeping up with the latest standards as this device is equipped with the latest Bluetooth technology (Bluetooth 5.0). My only complaint with this device would be that it does not include Airplay support. In my opinion, Airplay should be a standard feature on premium speakers like Marshall brand speakers. I did not deduct any stars for this since they do offer it on other speakers, but having that would definitely add to this speaker. I tested this device with my iPhone XR as well as my Apple TV. It performed great with both and paired very easily. The sound quality was very good and always played smoothly with no issues. The device also looks great and has a very classic and premium look. Overall, a very well made and quality product!

Marshall Acton II Bluetooth speaker is a speaker that brings you the iconic design of Marshall product. The look and feel of the speaker are just nice. Classic and elegant design. Put it somewhere against the wall and you are set to have a nice decoration that says yeah you’re someone who’s either been in the band or you know audio products. Aside of the aesthetics, how would the speaker position itself against many other products out there? Well, I find it a bit curious that the Acton II does not come with built-in rechargeable batteries, which means that this is not the kind of speaker that you would want to move around. The speaker itself is not that heavy but at 4.53 lbs it is not exactly portable. So what’s the deal with the speaker’s weight? Instead of getting portability, you’re getting raw speaker power. That’s a total of 60W of power, and Marshall claims that the speaker is able to produce sound 98 db at 1 meter. That is loud enough for living room use and I don’t even need to use sound level meter to test it. This speaker is loud enough for living room use. Spec wise, though its lacking AptX, Marshall uses its proprietary Digital Signal Processing tech, which works well. The speaker provides you with two connectivity option, line in with cable and Bluetooth 5.0. I would have liked it more if it offers digital optical input or HDMI. Direct connection by cable should bring better audio performance when compare it with Bluetooth. The speaker can connect to two Bluetooth devices at the same time. There is an analogue knob to adjust volume, bass and treble. Setting up is easy. I strongly suggest that you download the Marshall app and setup your connections through the app. The first thing that the app will do is downloading updated firmware. It is always recommended to update the firmware first before you do anything else when you set up a digital device for the first time; it will likely save you some disappointment. Now on to audio performance. If you’re using Bluetooth to connect the speaker with your audio player (mobile, tablet, etc.), it works just like any other Bluetooth speaker. The app lets you control the speaker and utilizes its DSP capabilities. I test the speaker with FLAC music file and my Note 10+ phone. The track that I test the speaker with is Prince Ali from Aladdin (2019). I use the track because it has a prominent bass section at the opening of the track and there are a variety of instruments played in the track. The sound that the speaker produce is nice, the bass is sufficient and the high is clear. The DSP is playing its part in shaping the sound that the speaker produces. The analogue knob works great in adjusting the basic bass and treble setting. Overall, this is a great speaker.

The quality of this speaker is better than I could have expected. The music is clean and tight. The treble and bass control is good. I am very impressed that something this small can put out great sound and volume this good. I never expected it. The connection is simple once your Bluetooth is set up all you have to do is press a button on the speaker and it's playing. I like that it can not be connected to Google and other companies that want access to my data. It's a gem.

This speaker hits all the right marks for me. I was looking for something I could use at work and I didn’t want it to be WiFi dependent. This fit the bill. It allows me to play music from my phone via Bluetooth and the sound quality is considerably better than most “smart speakers” on the market. Be aware, this is not a truly portable speaker in the sense that it must be plugged in to power; it is not rechargeable, or battery powered. It does have an app, but it doesn’t contribute any functionality and I never even open it any longer. This is a great speaker provided you’re aware of its limitations.

I got this speaker because I liked the way it looked, and I trust the Marshall name. I love how they model them after their amps! I got the black version, and the leather trim and matte gold accents give this speaker a premium look that really classes up my place! As for the performance, Marshall did not disappoint. I know it is not exactly made to be portable, but I decided to take it with me to my family's Thanksgiving so we could listen to it outside by the firepit (there were plugs outside) and it was awesome! Several people commented on how loud and cool looking the speaker was! This speaker is a great combo of excellent form and function! I definitely recommend!

    I really like this Speaker

The sound science on this speaker is a little lacking, and apparently they've fixed it with the Action 3. With that said, it's still a major upgrade to the bluetooth speaker I was using before. The EQ nobs allow me to tune the speaker to compensate for it's off default tuning most of the time, and the newer bluetooth standard is much better than the old one I had been using. All in all it's been a wonderful upgrade to my life. The thing looks amazing and has a great form factor for a side table or desk. Buying an open box was perfect for me, seeing as how I as able to save 50% off buying the newer Action 3 that is replacing it. And buying from Best Buy was soooo easy! I ordered it online, they sent me an email saying it was ready, and I drove up and they had it waiting for me. It was very elegant and painless. Will absolutely be getting stuff from Best Buy again. Oh, and the startup/connected sound on Marshall's products is so fun. I really like everything about the aesthetics of their speakers. They're making the user experience pretty great.

If I were solely reviewing this product on looks and sound quality this would have gotten 5 stars. This speaker gets extremely loud and has clear crisp sound. The ability to custom tune the sound sets the speaker apart as well. It is well built and very sleek. Reminds me of a guitar amp. The overall look with the lights around the knobs really pulls the look together. The Cons: The interface and app for this speaker are awful and not user friendly! I have a android and my husband has an Iphone. On his app he was not even given any of the listed options. This included the equalizer function Marshall promotes. This also includes the ability to couple speakers, rename the speaker, change the intensity of the red lights, ect. The app is borderline useless paired with apple products. Another issue we had was connectivity. At one point it would say I was not connected to the speaker eventhough it was playing music through my phone. They also say that multiple phones can be connected at one time and that it can switch back and forth seamlessly. At first it appeared that was true however we ran into many issues having the app on both of our phones. When one person would change the volume on their phone, it would change the volume on both phones. We also found it also randomly would connect to the other phone out of the blue; even when the app was not open or connected at the time (I was watching a video on facebook). All of the issues with the app associated with this speaker unfortunately mades it hard to reccomend. Hopefully this gets updated and resolved in the future as this speaker is incredible otherwise. Attached picture is the interface that is accessible on Android and not Apple.

Hello there, thanks for your review and feedback. A recent update for the iOS version of the app has, unfortunately, removed the 3 dots (buttons) that sit to the right of the speaker in the app. The function is still there: if you tap on the screen space to the right of the speaker, your husband will be able to access the equalizer and other speaker specific menu options that you see in the Android app. In regards to the speaker switching back and forth between the phones: this will happen as one devices moves in and out of range of the speaker. As device A moves out of range, the speaker will automatically connect to device B. If you don't want any auto-connections, best action is to turn Bluetooth off on the inactive phone. Hope this helps, if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to reach out to the Marshall Headphones Support Team at [email protected].

First, I want to say that I really like this bluetooth speaker. It fills my kitchen and living room with clear and powerful sound. It blows most other compact bluetooth speakers out of the water. The controls are metal, everything lights up when turned on, and it's just pleasing to look at and listen to. It looks and feels like a Marshall guitar amp. Personally, I have it set up in my kitchen so I can have tunes while cooking. It looks and feels like it belongs in a living room around nice furniture. However, it must be plugged into an electrical outlet just like a guitar amp. It does not have an integrated battery to be used on the go. If you want to use this speaker for a backyard bbq or on a boat, you will need to be able to plug it in somewhere. Other than the limitations of portability, it's a really cool, solidly built, great sound bluetooth speaker that also has an AUX port. I highly recommend it, but if you need a speaker you can toss in a bag and take wherever, I might look elsewhere.
