Customers are saying

Customers appreciate the Emberton II's exceptional sound quality, citing its clarity, balanced audio across frequencies, and surprisingly loud volume for its size. The long battery life and convenient portability are also frequently praised, making it ideal for travel and various settings. Many users highlight the speaker's pleasing design and robust water resistance. While some find the weight substantial, this is generally viewed positively as it prevents movement during use.

The Marshall Emberton II Bluetooth speaker is a little gem of a speaker. It's my first Marshall product I've owned but Ive been relatively familiar with the Brand, and its well-known expertise in the music world. They've done a nice job continuing that with this consumer bluetooth speaker. The speaker's design speaks directly to the brand's heritage. It looks like a mini amp with a grilled front and back and a leatherette covering wraps the rest of the unit. The Marshall logo on the front grill and the single, multi-function button of this speaker are clad in brass which feels classical. I'm not a huge fan of gold plating on anything but I'll give them one this since it feels quite nostalgic. It's a compact speaker measuring 6.25" w x 2.5" h x 3" deep. As I mentioned, It's wrapped in a soft touch vinyl that is pebbled to look like leather. It has one, omni-directional button on top that is used for: play, pause, volume up & down, and next & previous track. Also on the top, you'll find a subtle button for pairing and then a red LED light bar that shows the battery level status. I really like only having to use a single button to control the majority of this speaker's functions. It has a 30 hour battery, it's IP67 rated for water and dust (which is great!) and it's apparently partially made from recycled materials – that's a huge plus. It is slightly customizable via the downloadable Marshall app. Once I connected it, via bluetooth 5.1, I had the opportunity to select from 3 preset equalizer options. One that heroes more bass, one that emphasizes more treble and then the "Marshall" tuned option that they feel is the best of both. I agree that the latter sounds the best. In the app, you also have the option to link two Marshall speakers together, called "stack mode." I've seen this option with several bluetooth speaker manufacturers and I think it's a great option if you own more than one Marshall portable speaker. That is really all the app offers and I really wish there were more options for customization, like a user-defined equalizer option. It's a pretty stark app but maybe they'll add more features in future updates. Sound quality is great. It packs quite a punch for being so small. But, since it has a horizontal footprint it doesn't seem to have that 360 degree sound that many other vertical speakers have. I am not complaining but just wanted to let people know. I played different genres of music and it sounded good for each. I especially liked it with classical music. Overall, it's a very competent little speaker and I look forward to using it by the pool, at the lake and in the park this summer and beyond.

Bought the speaker in December and noticed that the speaker drains battery when off. From full charge to dead within a few weeks even when not in use. Went through all the recommended troubleshooting and now, after all that, Marshall is demanding I send the unit back to be examined. If they find no problem according to them, I need to pay to have my speaker returned. I have never experienced such poor customer service. Any other company would have shipped a replacement pronto. I had a minor issue with JBL headphones a few years back and they replaced almost by overnight mail. Do not buy!

Hi David, thank you for your review and feedback. All Marshall products have a 12-month warranty to cover manufacturing defects. As your speaker is within the warranty period, it needs to be collected to the Service Centre for an evaluation and repairs. Repairs are completed by trained product technicians and with brand new manufacturer's parts. Rarely is a customer required to pay for the return shipment, even if no defect is found. We have worked through troubleshooting with you and agree that it sounds like a defect has occurred; it doesn't sound like there is reason to be concerned about no defect being found. We hope to soon receive the speaker and have it back to original working condition so that you can continue to enjoy the Emberton II. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience of this.

Dead on arrival. Open-Box but no one checked to make sure it would charge. When I returned it, there were no more Open-Box and the price went up from $99 to $170. Manage on duty said that Open-Box items are "hit and miss". So much for "excellent rating". Bought used on Amazon and it works great!

This is one of the most perfect small speakers ever! I love the Marshall brand of speakers because they are really good quality speakers. This is another great addition to our speakers and our 2nd Marshall speaker. It has not disappointed at all. It definitely lives up to the brand name. The quality of sound is excellent. It sounds great for a small speaker. The look of the Marshall speakers is so sleek and retro looking and we love it. Everyone who sees our Marshall speaker compliments the look and sound. It took only took about an hour to reach full charge and I have not had to charge it since. I have taken it on a 3 hour bike ride and used it here and there at home and I have yet to charge it. It is still about 50% and that is pretty dang awesome. I love how small it is, yet the sound quality is loud and great. If you judge sound based on the bass, then you make not like this. The bass is not pounding so you can feel it, but the sound is loud and clear and I am okay with that. I actually prefer the sound without too much bass because then it won't disturb my neighbors but nice and loud for a bike ride or at the beach. If I haven't said it enough, this speaker is perfect! We love it.

The Marshall - Emberton II BT Portable Speaker will surprise you with its small stature and big sound. The Marshall Emberton II comes in that iconic Marshall look with the name on the front of the portable Bluetooth speaker and is wrapped in what seems to be faux leather but it still looks great with its gold lettering and control knob. It weighs about a pound and a half and supports Bluetooth 5.1. It is also rated IP67 for dust and water resistance. It also has 30 plus hours of playtime and also has a fast charge feature that will get you four hours of playtime with 20 minutes of charge. Which comes in handy when you just want to jam out without having to wait too long after forgetting to charge you Bluetooth speaker. Inside the box it includes a USB-C charging cable. You can also “stack” or link multiple Emberton II speakers together. I was thoroughly impressed with the Emberton II sound as I do not really expect much from Bluetooth speakers in this size range. First I noticed how clear it was even at higher volume levels. The Emberton II is said to have 360 degree sound with “True Stereophonic”. You can hear music in all directions from this speaker as opposed to other speakers in this range which you can mainly only hear music coming directly in front of the speaker. Just don’t expect much in the bass department as it is a smaller speaker. There is still a sense of clear bass but just not deep but you have to know the limitations of the speaker of course. To me that is not a deal breaker because you get a clear and loud portable speaker with that Marshall brand name.

    Miniature Audio Powerhouse

This Marshall Emberton II Portable Bluetooth Speaker resembles Marshall's iconic guitar speakers, and that's a big reason why I love it. My son used to be in a band and they were what he had. The look of this "mini mimic" speaker is familiar, and evokes so many good memories. Build quality is most definitely there! This Marshall Emberton II is made really, really well. With the audio performance to match. The sound coming from this speaker is simply, beautiful. Full, and clear, and rich. Vibrant. Authentic. Yes, there is an app - Marshall Bluetooth. It's simplistic, but that's fine. Sometimes you don't need to overcomplicate things, and just the basics are enough. The speaker is dust and water resistant, a design feature which is good since I intend to use this outside on my back patio when I'm relaxing in the tiny hot tub we got this spring. Living in Arizona, we get dust 'storms'; and even if I place the speaker on the little shelf along the edge of the hot tub, whatever minimal water spray may get on it, I know the speaker will be fine. Oh, and lest we forget how cool the sounds are that the speaker makes when it turns on (and off)! This Marshall Emberton II Bluetooth Speaker is lightweight, portable, and quite simply the cutest!

The Marshall - Emberton II BT Portable Speaker is one of my favorite little Bluetooth speakers. The style, quality and sound are simply amazing for such a small speaker. This thing really is cute, but don't let that fool you. The sound is awesome. Marshall, being known for their guitar amplifiers, really knock it out of the park with their Bluetooth speaker line. The Emberton II is water resistant, has huge battery life, beautiful asthetics and will give you about 4 hours of play time after just 20 minutes of charging. In the box, you will get the speaker and a USB-C cable for charging. The speaker housing has a very nice rubber-like texture that gives a great grip and water resistance. Any kind of music will sound great through this speaker. My wife and I use this out on the deck to listen to all kinds of music, and they all sound great. I even left it outside by accident one night while it was raining. The speaker worked like a champ even after getting rained on all night. If you are looking for a small but great sounding Bluetooth speaker, you will not be disappointed with the Marshall Emberton II. Especially, if you love Marshall amps!

    Sounds Good But Missed Opportunity

I have Marshall Monitor II ANC’s as well as Marshall Motif ANC’s, so I may be biased in my expectations of the Emberton II. This was supposed to be a huge improvement from the original Emberton, but they missed the mark for me, in terms of missed opportunities. The battery does only take ~3 hours to get to full charge. The quick charging was great to see, just out of the box. The unit connects easily and seamlessly to the app, which is great, since my other two Marshall products are run by the same app. The app is very functional, and the simplicity makes it easy to navigate. The unit comes packaged very well, looks and feels great. Especially the characteristic feel and texture of the outside. The battery lasts a very long time, even at higher volumes. The battery charge indicator is great to have, and reminds me of an LED equalizer from back in the day. It’s substantial and feels good in the hand. Marshall uses their True Stereophonic technology for 360 degrees of music. It sounds good, but they accomplish this by having one speaker facing forward and one facing rearward, as opposed to a ‘true’ stereo configuration. To achieve the ‘true’ stereo, I assume you’d have to use a second speaker paired to the first. At reasonable levels of bass, the passive radiators work well. Compared to other units in its class, it should be a bit louder. Features that they missed the mark on, where attention should have been given to, include: [1] doesn’t support HD music; [2] multi-function button; [3] DSP (digital signal processor). The unit does not have the codec(s) to play HD (high-fidelity, high resolution) music like Tidal and Amazon subscriptions provide. The multi-function button is convenient to control on/off, volume increase/decrease, and skip tracks. My fingers aren’t that big, but I still select functions I didn’t intend. The button needs to be a bit bigger. My top con for the Emberton II is the DSP (digital signal processor). The unit alone does not produce bass signals even comparable to my Marshall Monitor II ANC. When it reaches the threshold of the bass it can produce, the DSP kicks in to prevent the speakers from distorting the sound. Unfortunately, the DSP does not seem to work in proportion to the signal. When the DSP circuit kicks in, the sound becomes monotone, ‘tinny’, lifeless, with way too much treble. Never thought I’d say this, but it is more respectable to just let the sound get distorted…it’s an audible acknowledgement of limitations. The DSP keeps playing your song devoid of any energy. I’m not a professional audiophile, but the DSP is just horrible. When it kicks in, it is not subtle, and I usually end up changing the song. It REALLY is that bad.

Let me make this easy: If you’re looking for a portable speaker that sounds better than speakers 4x its size and is small enough that you can chuck it in any bag — look no further. The soundstage rivals anything I’ve heard from a Bluetooth device — that is to say, inherently limited by the Bluetooth technology, but about as good as you can possibly get. Unlike JBL / Bose / UE speakers, it sounds remarkably accurate, effortlessly reproducing a clear, authentic soundstage. It’s fairly neutral throughout most of its range, only starting to get the slightest bit muddy at the absolute highest of volumes. Mids are consistent throughout, and vocals sound clear and fantastic. Put it in the middle of a ~400-sq. ft room and you’ll be blown away. Build quality? It feels practically bulletproof. I recently discovered that rubber sleeve around it comes off(!) for easy cleaning, if you’re into that sort of thing. The battery life is staggering. They rate it at 20 hours, but I’ve been getting 25+ at medium volume. I use it for about 1-2 hours per day and go almost an entire month without charging it.
