Had some problems right away, which resulted in having to send my speaker directly to Marshall for diagnostic and repair. Ever since I got it back though it’s like I don’t even want to use it anymore. And stacking with another Marshall speaker(same model) is very temperamental. And you can’t use your microphone to voice respond to text on your phone without the speaker making a very loud blip sound at the end and sometimes the stack will disconnect from that as well. And if you don’t have an extremely extremely strong Wi-Fi connection, you will not be able to connect to the app, and you can ONLY change the very limited equalizer settings from the app. It seems inconsistent because I have two of these and one sounds better than the other. But I can’t go through more Technical support drama trauma. Perhaps I am just radioactive.

Hi Amanda, thank you for your review and feedback. This experience doesn't sound ideal at all. We hope you will consider reaching out to the Marshall Support Team again, you shouldn't accept anything less than the ideal experience with these speakers, they are worth it! It is true that the Equalizer can only be used through the app, however, WiFi is not required to connect to the app. The speaker and phone will connect to the app via Bluetooth. We'd love to get this sorted for you, hope to hear from you soon.

Hello, thanks for your review. Sounds like something might have been wrong with the speaker, this model usually has great bass. We hope you have the chance to return the speaker and talk to a Best Buy agent about it, they will help you find the right speaker for your preferences.

    Classic Marshall design and sound

Easily out of the box, the Marshall - Emberton speaker sets itself apart with its classic Marshall styling. It has a miniature retro Marshall amp/floor monitor vibe with the box styling and gold script writing and control button. The black fence mesh grills on front and back are wrapped with a soft but durable feeling rubber trim. The speaker has a good hefty feel for the small size and will definitely stay in place wherever you sit it down to enjoy so good vibes. It comes with a simplistic design factor of using a single usb-c power input, multi directional rocker control button for power, skip, and volume, a Bluetooth connect button, and a very helpful and visible battery level led scale on top. I was expecting a good classic sound from this speaker when powered up and I was introduced with a “guitar hero” chord entry on power up and outro on power down. Very simple aesthetic but I really enjoyed this subtle touch. Now the sound continued from here and I was disappointed when connected to my phone. I was surprised at the powerful sounds produced from this somewhat small form factor speaker. I pushed the volume to the max on several different genres of music and the speaker held its own. There was dynamic vocals and a good spectrum of bass. There was little to no distortion in the sound produced at high volumes and the sound carried throughout the room. I then took the speaker poolside and was able to enjoy clear sound while enjoying the pool. This speaker is designated as water resistant but I didn’t want to test that too much even though it has a durable feel with the rubber surround and very well protected mesh grills. I really appreciate the led battery indicator so you have a feel for when its time to plug the speaker into power source. However, I used this speaker for hours at high volumes and only used three of the ten bars of battery. Overall, I am very pleased with this speaker and will carry it with me whenever I can as it is small enough to be portable without being cumbersome and powerful enough to enjoy anywhere.

Little speaker, big sound. Out of every small bluetooth speaker I have owned or used, this is the one that has impressed me the most. First off the classic guitar amp styling and rubberized exterior looks and feels great. Using it in a shop environment, the speakers durability was put to the test! This speaker is very durable as it survived many falls including one that was nearly a 6ft drop off of a liftarm. The one thing I wish this speaker had was some way to hang or fasen it to something (such as a magnet or hook even). The top center controls are simple to use with the touch of the finger. It has an easy to read battery life indicator. Having speakers on both side makes for a 360 degree listening area. Outstanding sound quality in any area I've put it in; from my noisy automotive shop to the back yard patio. It offers deep bass and clear midrange and highs. I feel this speaker is not only louder, but boasts more crisp, clear vocals in comparison to even "higher end" speakers we own of similar configuration. This is the one area where most all bluetooth speakers of this size fall short. Marshall did not disappoint on the audio quality. No matter the type of music you listen to, you wont be disappointed. I do however feel they did fall short on the EQ functionality in the Marshall app. With only having 3 preset EQ settings makes it difficult to fine tune for optimal user preference. In my opinion, the app is nearly useless. This speaker has a decent battery life, so far at full volume I have gotten 16+ hours of continuous play time. This speaker seems to charge more rapidly than others we own as well.

The Marshall Emberton II Bluetooth speaker is a little gem of a speaker. It's my first Marshall product I've owned but Ive been relatively familiar with the Brand, and its well-known expertise in the music world. They've done a nice job continuing that with this consumer bluetooth speaker. The speaker's design speaks directly to the brand's heritage. It looks like a mini amp with a grilled front and back and a leatherette covering wraps the rest of the unit. The Marshall logo on the front grill and the single, multi-function button of this speaker are clad in brass which feels classical. I'm not a huge fan of gold plating on anything but I'll give them one this since it feels quite nostalgic. It's a compact speaker measuring 6.25" w x 2.5" h x 3" deep. As I mentioned, It's wrapped in a soft touch vinyl that is pebbled to look like leather. It has one, omni-directional button on top that is used for: play, pause, volume up & down, and next & previous track. Also on the top, you'll find a subtle button for pairing and then a red LED light bar that shows the battery level status. I really like only having to use a single button to control the majority of this speaker's functions. It has a 30 hour battery, it's IP67 rated for water and dust (which is great!) and it's apparently partially made from recycled materials – that's a huge plus. It is slightly customizable via the downloadable Marshall app. Once I connected it, via bluetooth 5.1, I had the opportunity to select from 3 preset equalizer options. One that heroes more bass, one that emphasizes more treble and then the "Marshall" tuned option that they feel is the best of both. I agree that the latter sounds the best. In the app, you also have the option to link two Marshall speakers together, called "stack mode." I've seen this option with several bluetooth speaker manufacturers and I think it's a great option if you own more than one Marshall portable speaker. That is really all the app offers and I really wish there were more options for customization, like a user-defined equalizer option. It's a pretty stark app but maybe they'll add more features in future updates. Sound quality is great. It packs quite a punch for being so small. But, since it has a horizontal footprint it doesn't seem to have that 360 degree sound that many other vertical speakers have. I am not complaining but just wanted to let people know. I played different genres of music and it sounded good for each. I especially liked it with classical music. Overall, it's a very competent little speaker and I look forward to using it by the pool, at the lake and in the park this summer and beyond.

Hi Christine, we are sorry to hear this. The Emberton II is not typically described as cheap with horrible sound or overpriced, it is possible that the unit you had was defective. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience, we hope you will consider Marshall Speakers again in the future.
